I'm trying to decide whether I want artillery or autocannons on my Cyclone. Yes I've seen the ship set up threads but they seem evenly split. I'm trying to figure if a close range set up is even worth it on this ship. I'll be going with 2 set ups for PVP and PVE/Missions. I tend to like close quarter combat but as i am moving to larger and larger ships I think I have to start looking at long range set ups. Any recent experience/advice?

For missions, it's really your call. Some missions work with short range, some work with long range. For PvP, you fit close range or you die. The only exception is in fleet combat. With a Cyclone you can fit an insanely damaging setup along with a decent tank with surprising ease. I currently use variations of this traditional setup:
Highs: 5x220mm T2 ACs 3xMedium Diminishing Nos
Mids: 1x10mn MWD II 1xLarge Shield Booster II 1x Large Shield Extender II 1xFleeting Web 1x7.5km/20km scram, as you see fit
Lows: 3xGyro II 1xTracking Enhancer II
Excellent damage, decent tank, can scram and web, and is fairly cheap for the firepower. Use 425s if you know you're fighting only BS and up, use Dual 180s if you know you're fighting only Frigs. Otherwise, stick with the 220s. Use named/T1 as your wallet and your skills see fit. ------------------------------------------------ I buy/sell any and all faction ships. Drop me a line in game if interested in doing business! |

The problem with Arties is they don't have the dps to kill anything. They are only really useful on tempests in fleets or sniping.

I don't know how good BC are supposed to be at ratting but, in 0.0 against angels I could kill a single BS spawn with a Cyclone setup something like this:
5 carbide 720s 1 med Nos 2 heavy malkuth launchers
1 medium shield booster 2 1 shield amp 1 em hardener 1 invulnerability field 1 afterburner or webber
the lows changed all the time as my skills did. here are a few examples of what i have done down there 4 power diagnostic systems 2 nanofiber hulls and 2 tracking enhancers 1 gyro, 1 power diagnostic, 1 nano, 1 tracking enhancer any combination of any of the low slot items.
and dont forget the medium scout drones

Now that you mention it, it did take forever to kill things once I started using arties, but the pure ammo wastage from ACs made me leave them alone when I was trying to make money. Plus, almost getting killed by rats added to the fun factor, though the times I actually got killed really ****** up the fun level.

They can instant pop frigs and cripple cruisers just fine. Dono about engaging hacs/battlecruisers/battleships unless you got support.

Only if you are a size larger really. I wouldn't use arties against a same size ship if i could avoid it unless it was destroyer or af vs a t1 frig. Maybe bc vs cruiser, but autoes would definatly be better there.

So gettin in close enough to use 220mms is not a problem? What about being webbed or otherwise enabled once you are in such close range?

What about it? They have to be within 10km to keep you webbed, which means that your autocannons will still be within falloff range, and your 3x NOS will keep your CAP alive.

Not really, EM because your EM resist is 0% at standard, and an Invul to raise all resists 25%.
In 0.0 there is other players out there.

Err, some Angels do EM as well as Explo and kinet. I would fit an EM hardener and a Kinetic

This setup is mainly for PVE, but it usually works ok:
HI: 5x720's, 3xassault launchers
MED: 1xab (or mwd, varies if mission is deadspace), 1xmed shield booster, 1xinv field hardener, 2xpassive hardeners(usually thermal and em)
LOW: 2xgyros, 1xdcu, 1xpdu
This can do lvl3's at ease in general. The inv field and dcu combo can give pretty decent shield resistance, especially with resistance skills thrown in. And with the 2 passive hardeners, even the em shield resistance can reach almost around 60%, depends on how much T2 gear you plan to use.
The artys will suck if the rats get too close, but that's what the assaults are for, mix them with some light-med drones from the dronebay and any friggie will be done shortly, even cruisers to an extent. In the meantime you can aim the artys toward cruisers or anything else at a fair distance. ________________________________________
