Actually it would be a notification about the bearing missed at maximum an hour - likely if said bearing took more then 30 minutes they would just be finishing the bearing.

I work at home, and some of the guys have shift work so our chain tends to be deep and up to date all day. At the moment, I have to rely on one of the other guys monitoring the chain and issuing a CTA on skype at which point I stop programming, log on to eve and blap the ratters.
But I feel we miss too many of them, and in so doing deny them the opportunity of buying nice new ships.
From what I have seen, there are rarely NPC spikes lasting only one hour and yes, we may miss those (it depends on when the update cycle lands), but I think we'd catch the vast majority of w-bears.
Of course if your chain is deep too, we might find that we all arrive at the same time and enjoy some pvp FFA hilarity.

Also at the guy that said this intel is irrelevant. Maybe it is if your like a c2 or c3 wh corp. PvP C5 and C6 corps this infomation would be extremely valuable. You roll into someone, you instantly know their chain and sigs and other info about where they are and in what.... korean gank ninja's. Critical thinking is lost on this generation.

I don't see a problem with him pimping it, or hosting it as a service (which as I understand is exactly what he's doing, albeit I think its a closed Beta or something?).
Folks like RMS in the OSS world kind of bug me -- open source should not be a requirement. If he wants to keep his code closed, that's up to him (I do the same, I wrote a custom portal for my alliance, and did not open the code, mainly because its messy as hell and poorly coded).
All I was saying in my post was that we should have a sticky with an index of ALL mapper tools, because there's a lot of good ones out there that are open source for those who choose not to use a hosted service (my reasons are simple, I'm a hosting admin by trade, and I like doing it as a hobby as well, and using some pre-canned service is boring ;)).
In any case, the OP did ask us to keep this thread about the tool, so I apologize, but felt the need to respond since you replied to my reply. :D

I have not released source code because Tripwire is still in beta form. In the past month alone I have changed over 2,000 lines of core code. I am attempting to better objectify the code to make future modifications easier and less dependent on other code. I do not know when all of the code will be made available - however I will be releasing some of the more complex code used for things like javascript jump calculations.
One thing about 3rd party tools I don't understand ... Why do ppl want to run private or offline tools to assist in playing a MMO single shard game where shared intel and teamwork prevail? The only answer I ever hear is "security"...
My response: A single instance/server is easier to fortify and protect - I would put my tool and servers against any privately run any day. As for not trusting me personally... give me a chance - I will not disappoint. Also you realize that the same people who code EVE also play EVE ... just think about that one.
In short - I will slowly release source code; and give my tool and trusting me a chance and like many others you will not be disappointed. Lets stay on topic or take these debates to other threads or my Tripwire forums. Best part of Tripwire is my 3 years of constant development and I love feedback and use it - my ear is always available and attached to an open mind.

First off, not irrelevant, but not as big of a deal as people make it out to be.
First off, IF there was a real reason for the fear people have of a shared service, the only person really in the position to be able to use that data is the developer and his corp/alliance, as I'm sure he has written it so non-admins certainly can't see other corps data.
Even then the intel would only be useful if you happen to roll into the corp who's data you hacked into. And even then it only saves a little time as it doesn't take that long to scan down a system these days.
And actually I'd say it would be a greater threat to the lower class WH's. They more often have a k-space exit. managing to hack that data would give you a known way in.
Critical thinking isn't lost, you just didn't really think it through very well. |

You asked, so I gotta answer. :) My reason is most definitely not security. Its for the fun of it. I've been a linux nerd since 1994, I do a hosting business as a side business, I do hosting in my day job, I love it all and find it exciting and thrilling.
I love making things 'work' for my guys. I love when they say "man I wish the mapper did XYZ", and instead of saying "let me submit a feature request to the author, I'll let you know when its been done", I can say "hangon", and some minutes later the feature they wanted is there, and being submitted upstream to the core developer for inclusion in the main tree.
That said, again, I have nothing against you or your tool in any way, just answering your question. :) I actually think yours looks pretty slick, looking forward to poking at it some day!

Patch above will be pushed within the hour.
Note that your Tripwire might stop syncing until the page is refresh after patch - I will post in here when patch is live.
Also patch will break current wormhole type numbering (K162 2). To fix you just need to edit and save the wormholes. This is because of major DB changes that couldn't be avoided.
I will be available for the next 12 hours to address any issues you may have - so please contact me if you have any at all. |

Pasting sigs to update them now works correctly. Was only updating 1 per paste before.

In regards to the security argument some people do not want to lose control of the data they are contributing / using and they are willing to host their own instance to have that complete administrative control over the data and hosting environment. They may love the features and functionality but do not want to lose control of the data so they will not adopt Tripwire.
Most of the focus describing security has also been around the high bit strength SSL/TLS encryption provided. While encryption for data in transit is important to some, it is not what I would call the most important security concern. The likelihood of someone who would want the data and could intercept it even as plain text in transit is extremely low. The security of the code itself is a much more important concern and it doesn't matter if the communication channel between the client and the server is encrypted or not. The application could be vulnerable to code / SQL injection, cross-site scripting, authentication and session management problems, dependent application misconfigurations, missing security patches on the OS, etc. As close source, it doesn't have the advantage of community peer review so folks can verify for themselves that software vulnerabilities like the examples above are not present or easily exploitable.
As far as the single instance/server being easier to fortify and protect that is true, but it also increases the scope of what could potentially be compromised should their be an exploitable vulnerability.
I think the application offered as a hosted service is great and very convenient for most users. Considering it is video game space data we're talking about, I wouldn't want to host my own instance of it or do an application security code review of your code. Others out their may take this game much more serious than me and care about putting all their intel into something they can't directly control.
It is a great tool. Thank you for creating it and offering it to the community as a hosted service for free. |

Your right - Internet Spaceships are serious business .. but not credit card info serious. :)
A certified SSL does solve many other security issues other then just data transport encryption. Cross-site scripting, authentication/session and MITM attacks are also prevented.
Also I am willing to share Tripwire source code - just not all of it yet because it is far from complete. In the past month alone I have drastically changed much of the code regarding adding/editing/removing signatures not to mention the new UI layout. If you would like to see some code just post a request on the Tripwire forums.
Thank you - Tripwire wouldn't be what it is without all the feedback from users.
FYI: I updated my first post w/ links to podcasts I know that have Tripwire mentioned in them. |

One thing i am missing (unless i am stupid and didn't find it) is the auto-creation of WH systems that i jump into.
I know the tool allows to import scan results, and mark the next WH from there, but there are many times when i am just scanning for the next WH and jump into it without importing the scan signatures. I've seen other tools automatically map such WH systems for you.
Another pet peeve is that despite me using the IGB, it always starts with Rens shown, even though "current system" at the top lists my current WH |

I am nearly finished the "Auto-Mapper" feature your talking about - I will have it done and available this weekend if not tonight.. I'm actually testing and finishing the code right now.
The IGB is supposed to go to your current In-game system when opening in IGB istead of Rens.. I will take another look at it tonight and include any fix needed with Auto-mapper patch.
Let me know if you have anymore feedback... features.. ideas... complaints... I'll listen to it all and try my best to help :) |

Tripwire patch released... This patch includes the new feature "Auto-Mapper".
Changes:
- Applied locale formatting to Note date/time
- Fixed null value bug with WH effect icon
- Auto-Mapper feature added
- Fixed issue where removing leads to system causes it to become EOL and removed
The auto-mapper toggle is located in the Signatures section across from the "Add Signature" link. Simply click to toggle (orange = active). Either use with IGB or have IGB open while using OOG (data link enabled) - ONLY ENABLE ONE!
As you jump from system to system w/ Auto-mapper toggled on (orange) it will add/edit sigs as needed to build a chain.
Logic used:
- If systems are already known to be connected via gate - Ignores
- If there is already a wormhole connecting these systems - Ignores
- First, it checks if their is a wormhole type that matches new system (B274 or "High-Sec" for HS) - Updates
- Second, it checks if there are any wormholes without a connection - Updates
- Finally it will just add a new sig with an ID of "???" and type of "???"
If at any time one of these results in multiple possibilities then a dialog will ask which signature ID you want to update.
I recommend pasting all system signatures and keep pasting them to update signatures as wormholes (Auto-mapper won't work on non-wormhole sigs).
*** NOTE: This feature will need some tweaking (namely when adding sigs one direction and auto-mapping backwords) Also getting podded out of w-space will result in a connection... next patch will limit auto-mapping to require being in a ship.
