Hey CCP
London are having serious floods and are the EvE servers safe from been water logged ?
Because the Thames river are going to be overflowing and a lot of london going to be water logged as well.
Dose CCP have a backup plan in place if the servers goes down due to water getting into the bunker where the server is housed.
I saw how serious the issue is on the news here in Australia.
And as an EvE player I am quite concerned if EvE did go down as it is the best MMO which I have played for nearly 8 years.

Are these serious floods the same as the blizzard of the century (all 5cm/2" of it) that shut down the entire British Isles a few years back?

Selfish post or not -
As someone who works in the industry any company serious about 24/7 uptime will have plans in place for these sort of things. Most data centres are built to sustain floods/fire/power loss etc etc.
A "proper" data centre is built on raised floors so that the servers, if you took the floors away" are suspended in mid air. Around that you build the flooring and access to the servers.
Should the worst case scenario occur, you would have emergency plans to migrate data offsite so that, when operations could resume, all you would need to do is re-image the hardware and re-load the data.
However, at this time, id be more looking out for my neighbours and my family. |

Except this time it is pretty bad, not some over hyped scenario.
Due to the way moisture has been pushed across to us from America, and the way in which the jet stream has been stuck, dumping said moisture on the south east/south west, this is the worst it has ever been.
This has been building up for over several months. Its not just rain, you do realise the water in parts is pushing up from under the ground ?
I'm assuming you don't live near any of the flooding ? I wouldn't wish it upon you or anyone, however flooding is one of the most stressful and upsetting thing that you can go through in your life.
Maybe spare a thought for people who are suffering at this time |

I've had some experience with floods. The coolest part was watching solid cast iron manhole covers shooting 2 meters into the air from the water pressure in the sewer lines.
You know what? We survived. And so will you.

Don't get me wrong Billy, Ive seen your posts on the forums, whilst for the most part they are dry humoured and funny, and maybe I misread this post im quoting, but im sorry in this case this is poor taste and not a matter to be made fun of.
As I said to the other poster, I wouldn't wish flooding on anyone, ive been through it myself and ive seen the affects of it on peoples lives and their familys.
Will people recover ? yes, will they suffer hardship, disruption to their lives, take a long time to get back on their feet ? a big YES.
I don't know you Billy, im sure in life your a decent person, but now really isn't the time to be an asshat on an internet forum making fun of peoples suffering.
How can you not understand people are suffering having their lives turned upside down ? displaced from their homes.
This world is a pretty ****** up awful world we live in, and each and every one of us leaves our front door every morning to make the most of the world what we can, and at the end of the day you should be able to take comfort of feeling safe and secure in your own home. But now people don't even have that.
You end your post saying its not all sympathy ? then what is it Billy ? because if other people take joy in people suffering then that's pretty ****** up.
The flooding right now is on the doorstep. Just because it might not be on your doorstep, you might want to think about how this will push up insurance premiums, how this will affect the cost of food, how this will have an affect on the economy this year on what are tough times already.
For once think outside the game.

Thanks for the support for people in the UK CCP Falcon.
At the other end of the scale here in Australia.
People in South Australia & Victoria are experiencing extremely bad bush fires.
My thoughts goes with these families who are suffering and lost everything in the in these natural disasters worldwide.
I hope the 2nd half of this year will be allot better for everyone worldwide. I am not a CCP employee-ájust having a input in the EvE forum

Seriously. When this happened in Houston TX, it was the computers and such in hospital basements et al that was the issue.

Now that the London commuter belt is suffering we might actually see the UK government start to do something about the flooding, like investing in flood defences and curtailing development on floodplains or making sure that developments on floodplains are actually suitable for that environment. Meanwhile large tracts of the South West have been under water or cut off for the best part of a month, and for most of that time all the politicians have done about it is pass the buck. |

People in germany always complain about the trains, then one day I heard someone who just came back from her vacation in London saying "I'll never complain about the trains in germany ever again, at least here the train always arrives!". Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

There was an article in the New York Times about this that was supremely irritating. It played the whole thing as "oh, those British people! Tally ho! Stiff upper lip!" Hey, Timesmen? Floods aren't jokes, OK? You weren't cracking wise about stoic Lutherans when the Midwestern US flooded, were you?
There are still empty husks of houses and buildings left over from the devastating millenial flood of 2008 here. There are still water stains above the height of my head on the buildings at the bottom of the hill that I live on. My thoughts and prayers are with anyone dealing with flooding, especially prolonged flooding. Good luck, and I really hope your government either gets it together or asks for international help. If the water lingers, will take years to recover, and years more to get all the mold out. Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables. |
