So I started playing last night and I'm working on the Industrial agent missions first. Completed the initial tutorial. One of the missions is to go out and mine 999 Veldspar. So I get to where I"m supposed to be and I see several different asteroid belts in my overview but when I try to "warp to 10 km" which is what my mining laser says is the optimal distance, i find nothing. No asteroids in site. I tried warping to several different asteroid belts to no avail.
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but heck if I know what. Can someone help a noob out?
Thanks! |

Set your Overview to show asteroids, that helps with spotting the little buggers. Also note that asteroid fields reset during the daily maintenance at 11:00 GMT. Depending on when and where you mine, things may simply be mined out. Hi-sec belts in busier areas may not last very long. |

Asteroid belts have limited resources. If you deplete an asteroid it will vanish. Maybe that's what happened here. Try a neighboring system. Or check the marktet and just buy the ore (afair that works, too). Be careful though, often the ore is overpriced in starter systems.
Btw, a full belt is quite large. When you warp to a belt you actually warp to a warp in point that's at range to the asteroids (and usually out of range of your mining lasers if you don't have special equipment and boosts).

I was under the impression I had to mine from the system the tutorial wanted me to go to. I'm at work and can't remember the name of it at the moment. Even if I can buy from the market and finish the mission, it wouldn't be teaching me how to mine. Seeing as I just started out I'm guessing I was in Hi-Sec... perhaps they were just all mined out.

The asteroid belts in the starter systems are often completely depleted. If the mission gave you a specific location to mine at, warp to it using the mission menu (in the upper left under the system name). This will be a deadspace pocket (different from an asteroid belt) created just for your mission. If it doesn't specify a specific location, go through a couple jump gates until you find some belts that aren't depleted. www.ensignyooch.wordpress.com

Asteroids respawn after downtime. In the starting systems they are almost always mined out within very little time. In other parts of high-sec, they last longer, but you might have to travel a few jumps in order to find an asteroid belt that still has ore.
That being said, the mission only requires you to find 750 tritanium, no matter how. If you remember the first Industrial mission, there was a 'location' in the objective. Because there is a location, you actually have to mine there. But for that second mission, there isn't, so it doesn't matter where the tritanium comes from.
Myself, I mined more than the required amount of Veldspar during the first mission, which left me with enough to refine it for the second mission. But you can also just buy the tritanium on the market. Another option is to start working for a different agent and look around in the missions. Quite a few of the tutorial missions do have asteroids in them. When you get one of those, kill the NPCs in your combat ship, then come back with a mining ship and mine. Only complete the mission after you are done mining, as completing it will make it despawn. |

as others here have already said.. for the tutorial mission.. i believe that one will specifically be in a deadspace.. that you can warp to.. made specifically for your own mission you will have to right click the thing that looks like a stack of " = " on your overview settings. then, open settings... the tab that says.. celestials.. open that and click ASTEROIDS so you can see them. you can proceed to save this setting as say ; MINING VIEW" and you can create a separate overview tab for mining.. and combat.. and general.. or how ever you like it.
you should be able to see specific asteroids.. if you only clicked specific ones... OR all asteroid type if you clicked them all in the asteroids folder. hope that helps !
AURA the tutorial agent can always be accessed in F10.. and cycle thru the tutorial specifics.. if you need further in-game assistance. http://ahanddrawnlife.tumblr.com my artwork ! The Journey :-áhttps://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=315016&find=unread |

Copy that. Thanks for the heads up. I have a lot to learn about that overview...

People are correct on multiplenthings:
Yes, asteroid belts are limited in their recources and can be depleted.
However thos particular missiom directs you to a deadspace pocket with the asteroids needed. You must mine from there to complete the mission. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

The laser range is not 'optimal' like it is with guns and ammo. It's the 'maximum' range. Laser will yield the same between 0 - max range, but you'll get a failure message if you try to mine further than the maximum when it finishes cycling.

In the second mission the agent wants you to go mine in a belt and then refine the ore to tritanium. But for the first mission, you do indeed get a deadspace pocket - warp to it and there will be your own, personal* asteroid waiting for you.
*Note for later: there are no instances in EVE, you are still in the shared universe, so someone could steal that asteroid. But that's hard, because: 1) the asteroid only spawns when you, the mission owner, warps to it and 2) only you know the location. To find that asteroid, someone has to wait until you warp to it, then use combat probes to find you. For now, you can forget most of this note, just remember for the future that it is possible for another player to find you in your mission pocket and mess with you. |

So I finally figured this out last night. I wasn't reading the mission as well as I should have. All I had to do was go to "People and Places" and "warp to" the area I needed to mine from. Once I got there lo and behold... asteroids everywhere. I did a few more missions and have upgraded my ship to the Venture with an extended cargo hold. I'm a mining MACHINE now. LOL
In one of the missions I did I had to head to a place and mine some more... BUT I had to take out two pirates when I got there. I got the first one no problem but by then the second one was flying all around me and I had a really hard time targeting him. Also, right now my ship just kinda hangs there in space not moving while I try to target the bad guy. So here's this last pirate running circles around me and I couldn't figure out how to maneuver my ship to at least make a harder target. Any suggestions? I eventually got him but I'm thinking I'm toast unless I figure out a better way.
The advice about changing my overview was priceless though... what a difference. I can tell there is a lot you can do with the overview and I hope to figure that out eventually too. |

Tip: Right-click the red guy in your overview and select "target", not on the actual guy in space. Then he can't avoid your mouse =) |

The expanded cargohold doesn't really work on the Venture, it doesn't increase the large ore bay, only the smaller 50m3 cargo bay. Replace it with something that is actually useful |

The hot key for this is CTRL + left click and is one of the few that is definitely worth learning even as a new player. But when in doubt, right click. You'll notice there are many options for maneuvering your ship relative to a target. (Approach, orbit, keep at range). You can also double click in space to move your ship in that direction.
As for your overview settings, there are many preset overview packs you can download and import if you do a bit of googling. I prefer to create my own and I've written a little overview settings guide to help out others that wish to tinker with the settings. www.ensignyooch.wordpress.com

This.
Expanded cargoholds are kind of useless on mining ships now a days. Replace it with a DCU Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy
