Edited by: Remedios Sonrisa on 11/04/2006 13:52:35 Just out of curiosity (though I have yet to try to do so), is it possible to just Ctrl-Q out of the game during a fight? Most other MMORPGs make you wait for 10+ seconds before the game exits but I noticed that it is not so for Eve.
P.S. I'm sure the questions been asked many times, but I'm at work and don't have time to search...in fact, here comes the boss! d:

Edited by: Myiesha on 11/04/2006 13:53:09 No, your ship will remain in space for a while and will probably be toast...
Note the time it takes for your ship to disappear will depend on if you have been in PVP combat recently or not. In either case your ship will try to warp away (which may fail because your warpjammed) and will sit in space. I think its a minute or less if you have not been in pvp and 5 minutes if you have. During that time its a sitting duck. I am not 100% sure on the times.. I prefer to fight it out. :)
Either way.. its a PVP game and deal with it..... Preferable by shooting back!

Edited by: Scorpyn on 11/04/2006 14:14:35 The "normal" logoff timer is 1 minute. However, if you've engaged in pvp (either by attacking someone or by being attacked) this timer is 15 minutes.
When the pvp timer starts, it's running for 15 minutes. During that time, your ship till stay in space for 15 minutes if you log off (so if you stay in the same place for 14 minutes after a fight and then log off, your ship will be in space for 15 additional minutes).
Things that will make the pvp timer restart from 0 (as in you have to wait 15 more minutes) are :
* Engaging/being engaged in more combat * Logging off * Docking/undocking (not 100% sure of this) * Jumping (not 100% sure of this) _____________________________________ meep meep This sig will self-destruct. |

Although if you jump in to a camped gate you can log off quickly you have 30 seconds of cloak and 30 seconds of sitting duck and then you disappear.
since the pvp Timer doesnt start since you have already logged off. (its probally a fault but if you can tank for 30 seconds then it will really **** the pirates off)

I thought you didn't dissaper any more, just that your ship jumps to a safe point. Well simi-safe as you can be tracked by probes.
Do this, create or use your alt. Fly out to space in an empty system then while in space log off.
Switch to your main and look at that system in the map using pilots in space. Also add the alt to your buddy list. You will see the alt on the map and the buddy list (showing that your alt still exists).
This means that using proper search techniques someone can find the safespot you were jumped to and destry your ship and pod you even if your logged off to go to sleep.
Always rememeber that CCP, though not originaly intended, has created the best space pirate sim/gankers dream and will do everything that can to further the Prat welfare program.
Logging off does not make you safe, docking at a station is the only safe place to log off.
The only saving grace is that Prats are typically too lazy to bother actually going through a search after all that would take actual work.

Think you need to test it a bit more because you are wrong.
Yes you warp away to a random point 100.000.000 km away (slightly less than 1au) which can be probed, but you don't stay there forever. If you have no flag at all you disappear from space after 1 min (impossible to probe anyone down in that time. With max skills it takes at least 75 sec and that is not counting time to launch the probes and warp etc), if you have npc flag I think it's 5 min (not 100% sure) and for pvp flag 15 min.
After that time your ship goes away no matter what is happening to it, even if it didn't manage to warp away (because it was scrambled). For example: Pilot A attack pilot B and scramble him, pilot B decides to logoff. Now pilot A takes his time to kill pilot B thinking he has all the time in the world, after 15mins pilots Bs ship will disappear even if pilot A still has him scrambled and shooting at him.
I have lost count of the number of times I managed to probe down someone who has logged of only to see him disappear while I am still going thru his armor :( --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wouldn't some of these so-called tactics count as exploits? I also wondered what would happen if you log off warpscrambled and a few days later you log in? Do you appear in the middle of nowhere, or do you appear just where you were?

Unless you are doing something against the EULA (IE Macro-mining....) EVE is All for one and that means me! You do what it takes to survive.

If your warp scramed, your probally gonna come back in a pod, if your lucky, in a station if your not.
Personally I've come to peace with the fact that I am probally going to get Ganked every now and then.... Ok a lot.... after losing an hour and a half worth of Jaspet I decided to secure a mining system. Even if I get ganked, my ore is safe from the pirates who killed me. Jetcanning in low-sec by yourself is dangerous, so take percautions...
Pirates are Dumb. Just outsmart them.

Logging out in combat isn't an exploit--its just stupidly lame.

They're definitely smarter than anyone who claims they are dumb
