Hello, In my opinion orbiting an object shouldn't be a "stroke of fate".
I think "active orbit" feature will be a good idea:
1. Player choses an object to orbit around 2. There appeares a ring around chosen object 3. You can move the ring 360 degree
It seems pretty reasonable feature, worth to consider.
I hope you guys like my idea |

Like this idea, don't like the random orbit that we currently have.
Maybe selecting the orbit through the Tactical Overlay so it isn't always up unless you want it, might work well. |

This would be a fantastic addition! Perhaps the ring could also be scalable? Like a scan bubble with set distances that coincide with the current in game distances that orbit can be set to now. All it would need is a button like alt to be pressed to switch from rotating to scaling. |

Indeed.
It would be nice, however, if you could force the flight computer to not be stupid through manual input, however. Rifterlings pirate corporation is now recruitng members for lowsec PvP operations. I support this. It only needs 2 control points: radius and orientation of the control disc. Very easy.

the thing i hate about orbit the most is when a prop mod turns off and the ship just decides "I wanna go this way now" and almost does a full 180 |

A better transition into orbiting would be preferable to what we have now, no question about it. I think that this is a good idea OP.
It's pretty frustrating to be on approach to something (anything) and once near the range you'd like you hit orbit and your ship simply decides "nah, I wanna go THIS way!".
Ships entering orbit should, at the very least, follow the existing vector instead of ignoring it and selecting a random and arbitrary vector. Clone mechanics enchancements Deep Space Probe Revival |

What about pre planned flight pathing in general?
Having options for a programmed set of maneuvers, using the starting point as the reference, could be useful in many ways.
The ship computer loading a spiral path for speed tanking, or an asymmetrical orbit, or simply evasive maneuvers to squeeze out every bit of possible advantage.
Science fiction has examples of pre planned tactical flight maneuvers, so why shouldn't we? Upgrading Local to Eliminate All AFK Influence So Local Chat vanished, now what? |

I would like to be able to orbit a space in between two asteroids so I can keep both Strip Miners within range of two different asteroids. Don't tease the Rats, and if you do, GTFO of the system. Unless you are dumb like me and try to ninja some more ore while an HIC sneaks up on you.

read the rules. bumping is prohibited, also to define a real orbit you'd need 3 parameters. two angles and a distance. other than that +1 |
