Basically, this seems pretty self explanatory. If you throw a bunch of skills in the queue, but forget to hit apply, it is entirely possible for them to sit there and not start training, despite having nothing from stopping them.
So, why not just have it auto-apply after 10 minutes of being paused (or 30). |

Or just warning that says "You are not training anything!" if you exit the skill queue without having a skill training, |

Nothing's worse then putting in long training time skill into the queue before you go on vacation or take a break and not realize you didn't apply it! I'm all for a warning! But I would like an email notifying if my skill queue goes inactive for more then like an hour!

I thought there already was a pop up box, but you can select not viewing it again?

there is.
They turned it off by clicking do no see this again. This pop will come up when do most anything to leave the queue window and stay in game.
Sometimes warning signs are a good thing. This is one I leave on. |

I'm pretty sure you can add and apply by closing the Training Queue. It's a dialogue box that pops up.

OP is not asking for the feature that already exists, OP is asking for an auto-apply if the skill training queue window has been open for a while with no activity.
This is a decent "safety net" but I'd prefer developer time to be spent on other things, while players just learn to close the queue when they are done tweaking it ;)

So an "anti-stupid" button then...like 'Apply' you mean? Or a pop-up that says "Oi...Muppet!"
Risk = Reward. Forget to click apply, don't train. Forget to update your clone = lose SP. It's very simple.

the system works fine and doesn't need to be programmed for such a small thing. if you close the window it gives a pop up with info about the cue being not applied and the question if you want to apply yes or no
i would like a bit longer training cue, a week would be awesome but i take 48 hours as a fine step forward. FIX FORUMS |

Thats strange, as I didn't get this (so perhaps a bug?)
I've been playing for a long time and this is the first time its happened. Normally I inject a skill and manually add it and hit apply. This time I did train immediately, and added the 2nd and 3rd level on top and closed the window. Assuming it would automatically follow up to the next skill.
You can see how that would be confusing. As said, I've been playing for three years and its never been an issue before, but just an idea that there's no reason to not have it auto-train if there is stuff in the queue. |

I'm not sure this would be a good thing. Auto applying skills could lead to such things as auto accepting duels, Auto anchoring of items, auto payments of sov and we'd miss another B-R... Its a simple click of the mouse. No need to automate actions that were not intended to be automated.
Maybe you could refine your idea to a secondary pop up for your skillqueue. After 10-15 or so have a pop up asking something like... Are you done with your training queue? Would you like these changes to be applied?
I think that would be a much better solution to this than automating it. YouTube: kds119 Twitter: @realkds119 Blog: derptw.blogspot.com |

The thing is there is not industry standard to even show a need for this. Most apps don't go hmm, user has not touched this window in 10 minutes, let me save for him. Devs do this for a reason. Changes to the app are best left to user to save. As once they click on apply/ok...its their call to make this take effect. Stuff like Word type apps might do it but autosave not a massive change here.
Eve however talks to a sql server. SQL you tend to make sure the user really wants that change by making them hit apply. If only from an accountability aspect. It makes admins/devs job much easier when wrong data gets on the server and we can say well you told sql server to do A....well it did A. Its how I hold my users accountable anyway. I only serve their data, they have to tell me (well my servers), explicitly, what that data is.
Where I'd see auto complete go awry in eve is player a leaves the puter. they have put the wrong skill in queue unsaved. Games saves it. Thye log never checking anything (why you would do this no clue...but I working in IT have a healthy dose of paranoia and double check early and often).
They come back days to week later and go wtf....why am I traiing gallente bs 5 and not minmatar bs 5. Ideal world user would say my bad and not submit a petition. Real world however....GM's would be getting "your game autosaved worng skill and I want my sp changed over to the skill I really wanted" petitions.
making you force this change cuts all this out. Or if you don't force this change...well thats on you too.
That pop cuts out this crap really.
Enter the pretty pop up we get now. |

Did you bother to read any of it?
None of those apply in the situation as there were skills in the que. I only found out when loading evemon to see that despite stuff in queue, nothing was training. Again, its not a " I forgot to train skills" it is a "I put skills in the queue, and for all intents and purposes it appears that it will continue training, but doesn't".
Really not that big of a deal, but I guess the internet tough guys are out. |
