After reading much heated discussions about the following topics;
- Drone Assist nerfs
- Supercarrier nerfs
- Blob Warefare in numbers vs smaller numbers in Supercarriers
- The issue TIDI presents
My question is, why not add Stacking Penalties to fleets "or" to all pilots from the same Corp/Alliance in system once a critical number is reached? Whilst obviously nerfing the whole Supercap dilemma at the same time (I think we all know it's inevitable at this stage).
What I mean by this is, once a fleet "or" (x) amount of pilots from the same corp/alliance in system reaches a certain amount of pilots, a certain penalty to "X" stats is applied to fleet "or" pilots from the same corp/alliance in the system.
The main focus is to break all of these larger alliances/corps up into smaller numbers, which in my opinion would add a much more interesting dynamic to the game.
P.S - I've just read over this and it probably seems like a stupid suggestion. But I hope you can all see what I'm trying to say here. Basically, I don't think it's good game design to base the game on who has more ISK/SP OR who has the greater amount of pilots. I think there needs to be much more emphasis on the players skill piloting the ship. |

Unfortunately, nullsec is set up in such a way that anything a few people can do, more can do better, faster, or more reliably.
Attempting to arbitrarily charge game mechanics to punish having more people than the other guy is bad game design on many levels. Attempts to make things easier for the little guy are too often manipulated and abused by the larger team anyway.
Also, an attempt to do something like this is a bit of a death knell to the faint hope that one day, the server may be able to handle enough people that there will be no lag, no Tidi.
Honestly, about the only area of space where groups have a reason to regulate size is in WH's, where there is a semi-finite amount of resources available; scaling up in number does not directly relate to either more pew-pew or more income, with nobody fighting your blob if you are too big and too many cows grazing the grass for anyone to have a good income for PvE. |

Take it in whatever way you wish.
However, if you bothered to read my post you would see that it's more of a punish Goons AND PL thread. According to your words anyway....

so the power blocs switch to a more coaltion model and we still have ssdd?
there are varying shades of blue. There is member/pet blue which gives some bene's like station access (if locked down).
And there is what I like to call light blue for mercs or temp setups when you work with the enemy of your enemy (but not your friend). Light blue as thats how I have seen it. They aren't grey or reddish/orangy anyway.
Also this idea kind of hurts smaller crews in a way. I know from oceanic/asia tz finding a crew to roll with can be difficult. So we tend to "blob" up as we get more limited choices to find homes if we tend to be social. Just so happens in oceanic/asia this means we clump up in a handful of crews really. they'd be punished for having numbers when the other option is to play the game half assed solo (see I tried open corps with few players my tz....gets real lonely at times as its jsut a few token oceanic players online lol).
You also are not seeing the big picture of 0.0. It runs 24/7. It has 3 shfits basically. US, Euro and Oceanic. US players keep the peace while the others away. Same for the others when US is at work/school. In this case the blob is needed. Unless you like walking into ref timers and save ops every day lol. Downside is sometimes you have shifts work overtime and more on because of that. |

Someone last week posted about multi-threading server technology and redesigning the game around that. From the responses that he received it sounded like (I am no programmer) CCP would basically have to remake the entire game because of the game design. Assuming these people were right, we might never lose tidi. unfortuneatly. Maybe they will and make an Eve 2, you never know... Hopefully our characters transfer over. |

Basically. EVE was built as a single thread game, and converting any single thread game, much less a massive game like EVE from single to Multi-threading is a gargantuan task.
Dwarf Fortress is having the same issue unfortunately. |

Wouldn't this mean fleets of nothing but supers and titans because anything less would lower the strength of the whole? |

Well, if the idea were ever to be implemented I guess it depends what diminishing effects are applied to fleets or corp/alliance in system with (x) amount of pilots. Could that be diminishing effects to EHP? DPS? Logi Rep? I'm not sure, just an idea.
But before this could happen, CCP would need to take a serious look at drones and resolve issues such as their AI, Fighters being literally **** and the current dilemmas we face with sentry drones, drone assist etc.
Only then could we say that Sub Caps may actually have a chance in the current Null Meta. |

your issue here is ccp has gone and spent some time fixing drones. Prior to these changes and the doctrines they inspired drones were meh really. To the point you might often wonder why, if not gallente, you trained them as high. TBH I did not hit drones hard on main until I hunkered down for cap training. Prior to that for the BS' I was in drones were more of check in the box to not look bad if a loss mail really.
Granted its sucking it took off so strong but....making them suck again not the answer either. |
