It is special invisible yarrdware that goes invisible when you pour cold water on it.
But pour hot water on it and watch it magically reappear!

As a former IT professional, I can tell you that any software performance issue can be solved temporarily by the use of bigger, faster hardware (yarrdware). But this will only last a few months until the software performance issue catches up with the available hardware/yarrdware.
At that point it must be solved permanently, either by fixing the problem in software, architecture, or finding a new software vendor.
Sad, but true.

I dunno. the last 3-5 days has been really rough. Combat is fairly smooth, and no problem with framerate, but opening market is takeing forever, and moveing items from my cargo hold to my hanger or from can to hold is takeing forever..
I just hope they can fix it.

A little birdie once told me, my PC took less than 10s to boot up and load Windows. That was 12 years ago. 12 years later, my PC takes about 30s to boot up and load Windows. ----------------

I suspect its all the trial accounts that expired but left sell or buy orders for 3 months for rediculouse prices thats partialy clogging up the works.
In fact the system is so freaking slow that the Rails that I had bought from 3 jumps out, did not show up in assets untill AFTER I docked at the base when I picked them up.

What is it with this game and all the people telling us about how they were/are IT-professionals?

I think 80% of this playerbase are IT professionals or something along those lines, at least judging by the forums _______________________________________________ I am the devil, and I'm here to do the devils work.

Nah....I'd say that the reason most posters are IT types is cos the rest of us get off our arses and go outdoors to work. It's only the anemic ITs who get to sit in front of a computer all day, reading the forums and pretending to be working.

assets update is not instant ;p it even says it takes 5 min at the top, and its been like that. Only way its faster is if u already have items over there in that station before u bought it ;p ------------------------------------------------ NEWLY ADDED ON 1/19 (though applies to all posts before ;p)

If your using windows XP. It will sacrifice loading certain processes on boot up to give an interactive environment inside of 30 seconds. Try it.
Its a fecking nightmare on a corporate network as group policy is one of the first things thats "ignored" for speeding up the boot time. Granted the policy is reapplied on log-in to a system but then it just increases log-in time for a user (negating the point in removing it anyway!)
But it will... load up to a log-in screen in 30 seconds or less. (From the time you see "WINDOWS XP" on the loading screen).
As for the "im a"'s in this forum, discount it with a pinch of salt. If someone feels the need to explain their tens of years experience in their job's on the forums to justify their answer, then they must feel that their answer doesnt suffice enough to prove that they know what they are talking about.
They lack confidence in their own diagnosis of a situation, and so have to "prove" it more to themselves than others, that they should be listened to because they are head honcho dude of SuperHyperGlobalMegaTech Networking division. ----- If you kill all the wolves, your gonna end up with a crapload of bunnies, and by bunnies I mean stupid people Eve & Linux Woot! |

I am the leading IT-proffessional at the Microsoft corporation, therefor... Na kidding . I am still in a study for System's administrator, just a few weeks away from my paper though .
Anyway. If you have the time, backup any data you have on your system disk and format, reinstall windows on that disk. It works wonders. (I do it every 6 months).

Just stop useless junk loading up... google hijackthis.exe. Read some of the help and you're set. I do agree though, a format every 6 months doesn't hurt. -

I was actually implying that with all the technological advancements, did we really advance in computing use? I mean, here is a rough fact.
1. 1995, 32MB RAM, Pentium 90 MHz, Windows 3.11. Load time roughly about 10s.
2. 2006, 512MB RAM, Pentium 4 2200 MHz, Windows XP. Load time roughly about 30s.
Does technological progression goes backwards too, that is the question. ----------------

I think I once put it on a 233Mhz Pentium. We've actually still got a machine running XP Pro on a PII 350Mhz with 128Mb of RAM. And it's even running SAP Business One. Yay for coffee breaks! ______________________
