Im a bit confused when ti comes to the whole countermeasure mod thing. Seems they all do the same thing but in varying degrees.
My goal is to get a lock off me as best I can. What ecm/dampening module would you recommend? |

ECM will break their lock.
Sensor Dampeners will make it take longer for them to retarget you.
For escape purposes you want ECM generally. BUDDY TRIALS - 21days + ISK bonus + Starting Assistance : https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/?invc=77facad8-d941-45ad-95bc-c1ec90919b6b&action=buddy Feel free to contact me with questions :) |

Sensor Dampeners will also reduce the range at which they can lock you. If you reduce that range below the distance at which you are, the lock will break.
But it's hard to get that distance below 10km, unless you have a ship that is bonused for dampers and/or many dampers. SDs are very useful to mess with long range ships (snipers, logistics, EWAR), but if you want to break the lock of an closely orbiting tackler, ECM is much better. |

To add to this:
Sensor Dampeners have 2 traits.
It takes them longer to lock
AND
It takes makes their target lock range shorter.
This is when they aren't using scripts.
When scripted, they do one OR the other, but better.
So with optimal range damp script. You only damp the targeting range, but you damp it more then unscripted. So with sensor damp script. You only damp their sensors, but more then when unscripted.
Now which to use:
That depends. If they are FAR away on their edge of their lock range, DAMPS. Because damps always hit whereas ECM is chance based.
If damps wouldn't make you get out of their damped target range, ECM. As damping would be useless and doesn't change a single bit. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Damps are phenomenal on ships that are bonused for them (Celestis, tech 2 variants of that hull). Each one really cripples the lock range of a ship and causes locks on ships near max range to fall off.
On ships not bonused for EWAR, I would look at ECM drones and not really bother with anything else, except for some specific situations. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=318489 - Proposal for a new type of tech 2 Destroyer If you want to mine in highsec, read www.minerbumping.com. |
