Steve Jobs is getting a statue at Apple. It's a very odd statue. |

Welp, there is at least some art even I can't defend.
It's HORRIBAD and unbelievable.
Reminds me of the carving of Hammurabi, especially with the objects that some consider to be a 1 and a 0.

a 1 and 0 to represent the stuff inside the phone that Jobs had no interest in while he made sure the casing was pretty. The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity. |

I also like the Gé¼ symbol on the upper right of the statue. Rather fitting, I would say.... Forum-unbanned since 2011.10.20.

Thinking about all this, these memorial type statues are just horrendous really, because they are designed by committee, and everyone thinks they know what's best.
The best article I found about all this discusses these issues and the horrendous public outcry when Maya Lin submitted her minimalist idea for the Vietnam Memorial.
The "Black Gash of Shame": Revisiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Controversy (Which was probably the last time we got a really great piece of public memorial art). Note my use of "pretty much", which allows flexibility and exception in the statement to a degree.
I'm not at all in the mood for a semantics argument. I mean, really............... "He has mounted his hind-legs, and blown crass vapidities through the bowel of his neck."-á - Ambrose Bierce on Oscar Wilde's Lecture in San Francisco 1882 |
