Just a quick post to try and uncover what, if anything, is being done to 'fix' the notorious agent offer issue.
As my principle source of income is derived from agent missions, loyalty point gains and their resulting payoffs are of great importance to me which is why I get so hacked off when my agents insult me with miserable offers.
Firstly, there is the well documented 'illegal commodities' offer that we all know and despise with such passion - whilst the monetary payoff may at first glance give the illusion of being a potentially lucrative exchange, it becomes increasingly apparent that they are nothing of the sort. It is widely accepted that illegal goods running is in itself a highly specialised occupation requiring a great deal of experience and expertise and not to be attempted by the faint hearted - so why the inexplicable frequency of said offers ?
Secondly, my personal fave... 'the reverse payoff' offer. A typical exmple of this little beauty might be as follows:
Having accumulated a monumental 900 LP's of lip-smackingly good agent attention as a result of seemingly endless level 1 agent drone infestation missions, you are greeted with that familiar 'I have an offer you won't refuse' e-mail header. With renewed vigour and optimistic anticipation you careful scrutinise the relevant journal offers entry which reveals that you can earn yourself the princely sum of 1.25 mill isk in exchange for a meagre 8000 units of quafe ultra... 'pah' you hear yourself say whilst contemplating what gorgeous upgrade you will shortly be adding to your modest arsenal... but wait .. what's this.... 200 isk/unit of quafe ultra ??? Hang on.. either my basic arithmetic needs some serious attention or my agent has just given me an opportunity to sacrifice my accumulated LP's in exchange for the honour of donating to him 1.6 mill isk's worth of pop-drink ????
...And so the search continues...
At this point I would invite any Dev or enlightened player to offer me a justification for such a baffling game mechanic and I'll welcome any revelations concerning impending overhaul's

What's the big deal with doing contraband runs? I did one last night for 880 small arms into Caldari controlled space, and nothing happened to me. Made 3.1 mil ISK for it.

The best bit is that Mordus, Khanid, The Society or Ammatar still don't have any form of faction ship whatsoever to give out, and yet have some of the best agents in the least populated areas of space.

Hi Torrence, thankyou for contributing - 'The big deal' is not so much a question of how difficult the illegal commodities runs are (and as I understand it... they most certainly are !), since there is always a place for incentive-driven challenges especially with respect to agent offers but more importantly how frequently they are offered.
In my case, and I'm always willing to accept that I may be an exception, 'contraband runs' seem to constitute roughly 3 out of every 4 agent offers. Tying that in with what I put forward in the opening post about the inherant danger of persuing such a hazardous activity, it seems to me that there is a fundamental mis-balance of agent offer types.

Could it be depending on the agent line of work (meaning security, intelligence and so forth) and how many people use the same agent makes the offers very different or very unrealistic?
Because i do hate the drugs offer for some ISK when i know it will cost me more then the isk offered. _______________________ Recruting

I got to 600,000LP with an agent in the hope of getting a faction bs.
I eventually cashed out at a million-odd LP at the first offer that wasnt totally crap.
I am now the proud owner of 5 navy vexors. I may suicide them in Jita as a form of protest

Hi Coveney, I don't believe the agents' department has a bearing on the liklihood of recieving a 'drug offer', I'm only speculating but I take advantage of the 'multiple simultaneous agent missions' approach to agent running which in my experience has indicated that regardless of his/her departmental association, the variation of the resulting offers is decidedly limited.
As to whether the number of currently active players assigned to a particular agent plays a part in the overall allocation of similar type offers, I have no idea but even if it did, that only reaffirms the need to ammend the agent offers system.

Again, my sympathies to you Deja... whilst your case doesn't quite fall into the 2 examples I mentioned in the title post, it is none-the-less another classic example of where the agent offer system fails to deliver ater all, what is the point in persuing agent offers when they repeatedly fail to reflect the equivalent value in LP's !

I seem to remember a thread similar to this a while ago, but can't find it.
Anyway, one of the responses in said thread seemed to imply that in the very near future (Kali?) the LP system was going to change so that LP would be towards a division (Security, Marketing, Int Sec, Whatever) rather than to an agent.
Also speculated was that there would be an LP 'shop' where rather than waiting for a crap offer, you could trade LPs for one of a choice of items.
Dunno if any of this is true or not, but it would be cool if it was.

Can we get some verification on this point? Anyone know from the horse's mouth, so to speak? This would make me run missions again... Don't mind me... I'm just a pigment of your imagination. |

Thanks Brutor, this is just the stuff I was looking for !
I'll chase up on these reports to see if I can get something definate, I imagine they would be of great interest to a lot of players.

Edited by: Caine 607 on 18/04/2006 23:28:56 Update:
So far I've been scouring the forum for crumbs and I've unearthed some old but relevant threads.
1) Over a year old - same topic, same grievances, same conspicuous absence of constructive or revelatory input from our dev counterparts !
LPs and decent 'Bonuses' (Linkage)
2) Posted shortly after... same old, same old.....
Crazy Agent LP Offers (Linkage)
3) Posted about 9 months ago.. touches on the LP transfer concept that appeals to most agent runners with the obvious exception of a rather anal 'ManOfHonour' whos contribution is clearly indicative of a labotomy.
Suggestion: Transfer LP from one agent to another (Linkage)
...and so on and so on...
Having meticulously read through approximately 35 subsequent and very similar threads, I can't find any mention of an agent system overhaul in the pipeline but I will endeavour to continue the search...

Simple thing needs to happen: Bring Back Faction Mod Offers.
I used to love these offers, never understood why they were removed (although I'll wager it had something to do with balancing with pirate agents).
Originally by: hired goon I agree with every point and counter point that has been brought up in this and every other argument ever had.

if u had looked at "the drawing board" u would have seen the following;
Improved Agent Offers
Agent offers would be converted into a form of store, where you can choose from a larger selection of offers from the agent. Possibly also moving Loyalty Points to the corporation level, so that you are building Loyalty towards the corporation and not necessarily the agent.
this idea followed a fairly lengthy thread started by zrakor at the end of last year looking at what changes ccp might make to the mission system as a whole in kali.
