If the sell order forums are protected by GMs against scamming, then if I auction a Ferox, and give the guy a cormorant, why won't he be refunded?

good greif... 5 pages.
that really is terrible.
the worst part IMO is that the seller referred to in the OP didn't sound like they had any intention of ripping anyone off, or scamming whatsoever.
if I was selling such a popular product I wouldn't bother with having much patience either. when I ordered a ship from a T2 vendor I was there to pick it up in less than a day of getting the "its ready" e-mail...
or did I miss something? was the e-mail sent and the escrow NOT up? as in the buyer went to the arranged station, and saw nothing, within the time frame given? or did they just not get to it within the time frame? I guess it sounds assumed that it just wasn't gotten to.
no, on the other hand, I don't care. this thread should die, with a big Mod-lock saying something to the effect of "character and GTC sales are backed by CCP regardless of their location. we try to keep the most obvious scams off of the forums, but do not reimburse if you are scammed before we get to it, or on one we do not catch."

Edited by: Caleb Paine on 19/04/2006 08:31:06 Bhaal, you have some flawed logic. Lets nitpick;
You state that scams are protected when they happen on the forums (later on you add the word 'certain'), and your whole reasoning is "because GTC and account scams are posted on these forums". GTC and account scams are ALWAYS protected, it's irrelevant if they were posted on/happened on the forums or not.
Then you fail to understand that your statement is just untrue. The problem is that your train of thought (if we can call it thought) seems to 'forget' that other transactions/scams ALSO happen on those forums. And THOSE are NOT protected in ANY WAY. So your statement "scams are protected when done through the forum" doesn't hold up at ALL.
Then you come up with the little fact that MODs would contact a GM when faced with a scam, there you go again. They will OFCOURCE when it concerns a GTC/acc scam but not when it conerns any other type of scam. And if they did, the GM would just brush it off saying it's allowed.
The fact that you added the word 'certain' somewhere down the line indicates that you somehow understood you were wrong... but you still go on trying to defend your statement KNOWING IT'S WRONG. You DO win a prize, but I'm not so sure you'd want to let others know you actually won it.
You give out false information, on which basis people who are new WILL make mistakes and get burned over it.

Exactly.
This is why no matter how much he posts he isn't in the [23]. The prime rule of the [23] is to not troll and to oppose trolls--and half his posting on the forums are trolls or flames.
I'm surprised he isn't permabanned yet.

Whether you like it or not, many players seem to turn to the forums for character & GTC transactions due to the fact they feel more secure.
This is not mis-information...
You guys are trying to get me on some technicality, I'm saying most players do not care about that technicality, it's the visibility aspect of the forums that garners this extra protection IMO, along with helpful involvement from the MODS.

Well mainly because the forums are where those sales get more exposure.
The protection is from the GMs.
If you get scammed in-game with GTCs, you petition "exploit" to get reimbursed. If you get scammed through the forums with GTCs, you ALSO petition "exploit" to get reimbursed. However, the mod will also lock the thread and may go to extra work to ensure that each of the victims remembers to petition. He may forward a list of the scammed to a GM, though I don't know exactly how this works.
It isn't protection--you're still 100% protected in either case. Perhaps its simply better service.

Your second post was:
Originally by: Bhaal The sell order & trade forums are GM protected against scamming...
The technicality in this case is that you made a blanket statement that is only partially correct. It is true in the case of GTC and character scams, but is not true in the case of in-game items.
Since the OP was about in-game items, you would thus assume that the replies were related to in-game items.
Thus, you were posting mis-information. ______________________

This thread wins the useless award. I mean, what have you been arguing about, seriously? This is a waste of time.
You could be out there, arguing your way to success in real life, or even arguing away world hunger. I think you guys should do some good and form the "Angry Old Biddies For Peace", or AOBFP for short. Ok, maybe not AOBFP. Anyway.
You could be out there arguing for a better world instead of staying here and arguing over what GM's will or will not wear to the Homecoming Ball. Or whatever it was you were arguing about.

Dude, chill...
It's a discussion forum for a game...
I visit many different forums for many of my various interests, be it EVE or Bulldozers, or classic cars, or sports, or what have you...
Heated debates are part of online forums, there is nothing wrong with that IMO...
If I wanted to debate world hunger, I'd go to an appropriate website for that...

Edited by: Trak Cranker on 19/04/2006 13:53:15 Cellphone, the seller is so absolutely right. Trying to explain your ignorance away after being told that you are characterized by such, is amateurish to say the least.
_In_ Eve there is no petitionable scam. Every deal that exists solely in Eve and is potentially scammable, is so with CCPs blessing. The seller has no reason to refer to any transaction/scam that does not comply to the above limitation, and is CLEARLY not doing so.
Outside theres plenty. Outside you could make fun of him for selling spaceships, ffs. There it stops being Eve rules. It basically goes beyond petitionable and probably straight to criminal(Note the use of "probably". I'm not sure). And its also for that reason, and quite a few others, that Hippo and co was completely right in arguing the specifics in the Bhaals comment.
So try and make fun of someone else the next time. Cause this was not even close to being an even fight. .

Don't want to flame, but did they ever ask you, if you learn something from your mistakes ? Edit: Except that it were gtc or character scams of course, but please don't let's start this again. I think 99% of the people know that it's forbidden, that the scammed guy gets his isk back and that gtc and char scamming is a bannable offense. puh.

flat answer:
he wasn't scammed so it doesn't matter
the ONLY scams that are "protected" are GAME TIME CODES and CHARACTER TRANSFERS, because they involve RL money. As long as they were done IN GAME or on the EVE-O forums. Either one of those flys.
Anything else (thats not against the eula, which would get bans, warnings whatever, anyway so mute point) is NOT protected ingame NOR on the forums. Though mods don't want scam threads running about YOUR ISK WILL NOT BE RETURNED. ------------------------------------------------ NEWLY ADDED ON 1/19 (though applies to all posts before ;p)

If these were character transfers or gtc sales thatd be better.
Otherwise i ain't gonna believe so, but if its true then GM's are doing what they're not supposed to as CCP said its ok to scam (however low it is)
and for the love of god you woulda thought u learned by now?!
edit: another part of the not believing is that im pretty sure the mods don't have powers to give u stuff ingame so having them returned without the help of a gm.... ------------------------------------------------ NEWLY ADDED ON 1/19 (though applies to all posts before ;p)
