Good day, I have recently started playing EVE about two weeks ago. I want to get into PVP and maybe some pirating. However I don't really know what I am doing and the two fights I have been in ended in my death mostly because I get so nervous and my hands start shaking I end up making some dumb mistake and dieing. So I was hoping some of the vets might be able to give me some advice on useful skills and what not but most importantly tips on how to beat the jitters.
Thanks in advance.

Some good general tips i think would be:
1. Stay Calm. It's hard at first, but you've gotta chill or you're gonna make really stupid mistakes and end up in an egg.
2. Practice, you need to practice pvp. There's always more to learn and experiance counts for way more then nice mods or skillpoints.
3. Well organised corp, not vital but really helps. You certainly need voice comms too :D

Edited by: Irashi on 19/04/2006 09:50:25 The best thing you can do about the jitters is practice, they soon go away. Learn to accept death, not seek it but accept it when it comes, as when you first start off you're going to die a lot as you make your mistakes and it's best to accept this than get upset every time it happens. The best way to remove yourself from this fear is to only fight in something you can easilly replace, this is also good for ensuring that you don't lose all your money.
Alcohol also makes you stronger, faster and harder to hurt in PvP. __________________________________________________

Heh the jitters pass with time, the best advise is to start fighting in frigs with cheap mods. Doing this means that if u panic its ok as you only lose a few isk a time.
Try joining a corporation that pvp's e.g. Goonfleet, or some low sec frig pirates. Joining a corp will allow you to learn from more experienced players.
Learn to use your scanner (there is a guide around here somewhere) it will save your life and allow you to pick your targets.
Good luck and feel free to convo me if you need anymore advice.

This adrenaline rush will never completly go away thats hte reason there are players over 3 years old and stil playing. But at least u will learn to control it over time. first train for using micro warp drives (essential for pvp in frigs) learn the key's shortcuts
join a corp to learn things quicker it will take u almost a month in order to put up a descent fight in a frig good luck

HI Phinaes
Let me tell you a secret. People think that because I was with Cult on and off for 3 years (now Omnicient Order) yes Im everywhere all at once :) That I know what Im doing!
I have pulled off the biggest blag in Eves history doing this! I dont know what Im doing even now after 3 years and yes my hands still shake and my heart pumps and that's why we play Eve isnt it?
Seriously, do this..
A. Train your learning skills it will pay off later on B. Pick a ship you like and master it dont chop and change ships when your new C. Join a corp. There are loads and all (most) will have a PvP arm to them. Join the FA as they are getting lots of PvP with us now ahemm :) D. Practice different loudouts for your ship. It's your ship so learn what it can do and with what and in what situation. Talking of which there is no single ship that can handle ALL situations! I can fit my scorp in myriad ways but im not the tank in the fleet and im not the heavy hitter either! MY JOB is to support and jam the enemy and thats what I do. My buddys can fit meaga weapons and BCUs because they know I am jamming so they dont need too! Of course 1v1 is different but its not often I could take a 1v1 with most of my setups to be honest.
Hope all that helps and welcome to Eve.
PS Try not to take death personally :) It happens. IO fried my best scorp the other day in practice just when I said ok IO Im outta cap call off your drones his connection died :( My ship followed! Ever heard the song "another one bites the dust" Be you a Pirate or a Simple Alt creeper! Sooner or later you'll dance with Soul Reaver and His Amazing Underpants

WOW that was pretty fast. Thanks alot for all the good advice. Now as far as experience goes should I just save up a few mil and then head down to 0.0 and give it heck? I do want to do some pirating but right now I think I will do agent running to supliment my income after loosing most of my ships so I don't want to ruin my sec status yet. And given my some what limited play time currently I don't feel I should join a corp either. So any more great advice would be much appreciated.

My advice is to never PVP when it's freezing cold.
It seems to amplify the jitter responce to pvp. The amount of times i've went into fights shaking like a leaf despite the fact that i've had far more scary fights before leads me to believe that you need to have a nice thick pair of socks on to PVP. True story. -----

Die fighting 100 times then you will become pro.
Die running 100 times then you lose space. ----------------

If this has been spoken about above then IĈm sorry (too damn lazy to read it all)
Don't rush anything. If you see a target on scanner, don't go charging in guns firing.
Take the time to check if there is backup/escort.
See if you can get the positioning right BEFORE you warp, so that you will be close to optimal when you drop out of warp.
Yes we all want to charge in and nuke everything, but those that actually plan ahead will usually be victorious.
Test out the ship you are flying, know its limits and know its strengths.

Edited by: dedo dedere on 19/04/2006 11:33:15 Hi there
My corp is currently engaged in a merc contract or two. When these ones are over were gonna declare some pirate corps i think. When they are over and we have no one else to declare or no more contracts we'll go back to our practice war agaisnt friends and return to hunting in 0.0. We are a small corp with 4 members that have had over a years experience of PVP in soem of the largest alliances around. The other members are friends with a yearnign for PVP or newer players who want to learn.
You sound like you've got the right attitude. To be honest all you need to become a good PVP'er is the right friends and the enthuisiasm for PVP.
IF you're considering joinign a corp (which i really think you should) send me a message ingame. We would make sure you have the isk to fit the ships you want, we would teach you alot about PVP, and you'd get a vaiety of experiences.
even if you dont wanna join just yet still convo me or eve mail me and ill give you some more pointers
