I have zero issue with someone who wants to sit in a system and cloak camp it. That's part of the game and if they feel like sitting there than fine. But they have to actually be there. Cloak camping has become ridiculous with people leaving their toons in a system while they go to work. Every where else in this game that sort of afk bs is punished, and rightly so. Why has this gameplay tactic been protected by CCP for this long? If you ship is sitting in a system for hours on end not moving...someting should be able to find it and kill it. Whether cloaks come with a timer that deactivates the cloak if you're still for too long....or an enhanced probe that allows you to find a cloaked ship if it hasn't moved for some time (my favorite option)...something has to be done. AFk people should be killed and everything CCP does should be geared towards punishing habitually afk people. I fully realize there's normal situations, like scouts for example, that need to sit in a system for awhile cloaked. My issue is with the people who log in their characters than go to work, or while they're sleeping. These ships should be able to be found.
The easiest solution is the timer, of course. But I don't like it just from a gameplay standpoint. I like better the idea of specialized equipment specially made to root out these bottom dwelling urchin. CCP get this done. If the timer has to be the first intermediary step so be it....but do try to come up with a cooler and more creative solution. |

It's been done to death again and again, there WAS a threadnought but that has disappeared into the abyss.
The point of cloaking is not to be found, and yet you are suggesting something that counters that entirely. I've said it in may other thread on cloaking, all you are doing is just removing something that is inherent to low security space (Low-sec, Null-sec, J-Space) there is no repercussion to a system that can counter cloaking, its a straight removal of risk plain an simple.
I'm happy to talk about people going afk, don't get me wrong, but any kind of system that can render cloaking useless will be abused and will make more problems than it solves. Witty Comment Here |

I have always failed to see the issue with AFK cloaking. If someone is AFK they are by definition not a threat to you or anyone else. They aren't even there to turn on their tank/weapons/launch drones. If they are watching and shadowing you then they are not AFK, which you already said you're fine with.
Removing cloaked ships from local probably wouldn't even ease your fear, you'd simply assume that all systems are permanently full of Covops ships watching everything you do waiting for the opportunity they need to kill you and the first time that it happens will cause a predictable case of confirmation bias.
Your attempt to rebrand AFK cloaking as cloaky camping is not going to get you anywhere, get on with life or choke on your fear. |

It's a twisted thing... but it is balanced.
Cloaking (absolute location concealment) is used to counter local (absolute presence awareness).
If you want cloaking nerfed you also have to nerf local at the same time. That way, hunters have to actually hunt and defenders have to actually defend (rather than "hunters wait while defenders hide"). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

If you want cloaking nerfed you also have to nerf local at the same time. That way, hunters have to actually hunt and defenders have to actually defend (rather than "hunters wait while defenders hide"). If a cloaked ship doesn't warp or talk in local for 30 minutes (or less, or more, I dunno) then they disappear from local and their own local clears out and basically becomes wormhole local (players only show up if they talk). Other actions such as d-scan, probes, slowboating, etc. wouldn't affect this. If the cloaked player talks, drops cloak, or initiates warp (including warping while cloaked) then they'll immediately show up in local again and their own local chat will be restored.
Of course, if anything I'd call this a buff to cloaking, but you'd get a better idea if someone's AFK. (If they hang around cloaked for a day and then suddenly warp to you to light a cyno you'll see them the instant they warp. May be too late by that point, but you can try to get away and start getting a counter-fleet scrambled.) If it's too much of a buff to cloaking then could add any movement (so aligning or slowboating) to actions that cause the player to appear in local. But my personal preference would be to let people move on grid without revealing themselves. Alternatively, the cloaked player could lose local the instant they cloak and only get it back when they uncloak. (But they'd still appear/disappear in local as described above)
Of course I have no idea if this is even possible from a coding standpoint. |

Shortest and most correct answer.
