Rob Kashuken wrote:Ah, learned something from this thread...
Warped into a 0.6 system last night (trying my luck at lower sec systems outside of the newbie areas) and started mining in a venture, there were a few others in retrievers and ventures around, and rapidly found myself chatting with a navy Raven pilot whilst a few other larger ships appeared nearby.
Couldn't work out why I was the focus of so much attention then.... now I know. I tried that once - being the ganker that is..
Got creamed like hell by CONCORD, but was fun to try. Two possibilities exists: Either we are alone in the universe-áor we are not. Both are equally terrifying.

Just to summarize for newer players reading this thread ...
Pirates and Ganking in High Sec: - Yes pirates (-5 security status) can enter into even 1.0 systems. The faction police spawn as they enter the gate, but the pirates have more than enough time to warp off if they are in something fast (frigate / destroyer / etc).
- CONCORD will spawn once the pirates start attacking you in high sec. That being said there is a response time built into the mechanics (a couple of seconds).
- The pirates are going to die to CONCORD once they start attacking you, they know this. Usually they are in very cheap ships that have high DPS. The idea is to kill you for minimal ISK cost on their end and then loot your wreck.
- If they have declared war on your corporation they can attack you.
- This game mechanic is not actually the end of the world for those in high sec. Keep your d scan up, don't fly things you can't afford to replace, think before you bling out your high sec ship, and accept that one of the things that is so unique about EvE is that there is risk in everything (to some level).
Safety Tips: - Set up your overview so that you know what is landing on grid with you. See the EvE University guide to the overview.
- 360 degree directional scanner is your friend, particularly short scan (~1.0 AU and less). It gives you time to react.
- Don't fly silly expensive ships that will make you a target if your not ok with it going boom at some point.
- If you die, treat it as part of the game and think about what happened. You have a couple of options at that point. Get into PvP and look at making others explode, or just think about what happened and how you can mitigate it happening again (direction scanner up, etc). https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=266074 - Sniggwaffe (Waffles)

Safety Tips: - Set up your overview so that you know what is landing on grid with you and who is in local. See the EvE University guide to the overview. This will also tell you if the people in local / landing on grid declared war on your corporation, etc.
- 360 degree directional scanner is your friend, particularly short scan (~1.0 AU and less). It gives you time to react.

To add to this list:
Anything that happens (both good and bad) to you while playing EVE (either during your time logged in as well as logged off) is directly related to any action or inaction on your own behalf.
If something happens to you, in the end it was because of something you did or didn't do. Do not blame others or the game for it, you are wrong.

Absolutely.... I just shot myself into the foot yesterday. Being ignorant does not protect you. I joined a corp with an alt in the far away land of nullsec. All cool. Now I had that great idea of flying my mining alt there and dock him in that station. (the pro already knows by now what happened lolz...) I did that trip for two reasons, I like that ship I flew and I wanted to see how ninja I can be. I did not want to pod-travel myself there suicidedly. Long story short.... I actually made it through immensely hostile territory. Chased, bubbled, followed... Not caught! But then.... hahaha... my mining alt was not in the corp yet and hence the station did not let me in. What a novel feature to me haha. I was smart enough not to fly to a pos nearby... lolz.... instant BBQ... But... I was not blue. So I was flattened out nicely as the new welcome mat. One cannot be mad if one has not had the experience. Instant learning effect haha. Friendly people showed up to help me out of my ship. Was kinda funny.... Docking... NOPE refused... AHHHHHHHHHHHHH And two lights went on. One in my mind! AH that's how this works... One a second later when my ship flew apart.... Can't be mad about anything.
NEXT!!!

Further to Concord response times, Tippia did some research; for science, and came up with the following numbers:
- 1.0 GÇö 6-¦1 seconds.
- 0.9 GÇö 6-¦1 seconds.
- 0.8 GÇö 7-¦1 seconds.
- 0.7 GÇö 10-¦1 seconds.
- 0.6 GÇö 14-¦1 seconds.
- 0.5 GÇö 19-¦1 seconds.
