Definitely the best bits of the books so far in the upcoming season, I was pretty psyched to see Oberyn in the trailer.
Makes me kind of worried for season 5 though, book 4 sort of felt like downtime to me. |

I agree. It will take them some work to make it as interesting as the previous seasons.

Depends on how they do it. Book 4 and book 5 both start at the same time. They're just split up character/geography wise. So you're reading from the perspective of characters in and around Kings Landing in book 4, and then most of the other characters in book 5. Until near the end of book five when the timeline catches up and you start seeing the entire array of characters again (because book 5 is longer than book 4)
I think they will just merge the perspectives of books 4 and 5 and tell them over the course of about 3 seasons perhaps(1800 pages to cover). That way you don't have characters that are completely gone from the series for an entire season. If they didn't do that you'd have an entire season without [redacted] or [redacted], followed by one that doesn't even show [redacted] and what's been happening with [redacted] and [redacted].
*Seeing as any character can die at anytime in this series, I thought saying the names of some characters I know to still be alive in books 4 and 5 could be considered a minor spoiler. Especially since this season is just the end of book 3. |

For what it's worth:
"Adaptation schedule
Showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss intend to adapt the entirety of the still incomplete A Song of Ice and Fire novel series, if HBO permits it. They envision the series to have a scope of some 80 hours, about eight seasons' worth of material. In 2013, producer Frank Doelger said that "we'll probably get through to seven seasons".
Benioff and Weiss said that they do not want to pad Game of Thrones out so as to wait for George R. R. Martin (who has taken up to six years to write an installment of A Song of Ice and Fire) to finish writing the last two novels. Knowing the broad outlines of Martin's intended ending for A Song of Ice and Fire, and concerned that extending Game of Thrones to ten seasons would kill its sense of momentum, they consider it possible (but not preferable) that the TV series ends before the last novel is published. I'm praying this is one of the things wikipedia has wrong (or simply doesn't come to pass). Finish the series before the last book?!? OBJECTION!!! |

Well, everyone knows how famously slow GRR Martin is with finishing these tomes. It could take a decade from now to wrap up.
(The only times I've found Wikipedia to be wrong is concerning volatile topics, like anything to do with anything political, abortion, birth control, religion, terrorism, yadda yadda yadda.

Clearly you've never read their section on the population explosion of African Elephants. |

You still have not said a word specifically about the elephants.
Anyway, I've decided you are just trolling, as this is a GofT thread and you come up in here derailing with tinfoil Wiki scare stories that honestly mean nothing.

*facepalm*
The link mentions the elephants. But clearly, you didn't bother to check the information I provided you. You simply assumed I was trolling
The link is a reference to how Stephen Colbert got his viewers to change wikipedia entries to say the elephant population has tripled in the last 10 years. You'd know that if you actually clicked the link I provided. But instead you accuse me of "coming in here and trolling". Furthermore, I didn't "come in to a GofT thread and start trolling" I started the thread, and when you came around with wikipedia as a source, and then defended the source, I provided what I thought would be taken as a humorous link to why it's not the best of sources (which of course people already know, but why not share a funny link?) |

somewhat. but i think that's cool. having read the books i like the fact that some things are changed up so i also get to have the feeling of not knowing everything that's going to happen.
also: <3 arya and the hound.
they went witha spanish sort of vibe for the dorne people. when i read the books i always sort of imagined the dornish to be sort of like the moorish. a slightly desert arabic feel to them in novels. but i am happy with this interpretation. i enjoy the guy that plays prince oberyn lol |

In that case, the show will probably go on hiatus and then play catch-up later on. Nothing wrong with giving everyone a 2 year break or whatever.
That would have actually been a great idea for ST:TNG and BSG. Come back with fresher ideas.
But the TV industry thinks that "steam" would be lost and it's a bad idea. They'd rather wait 20 years and then reboot and re-make the entire thing, and lamely at that usually. Argh.
