What does everyone think about changing the date format from the unconventional format of dd/mm/yyyy to the conventional mm/dd/yyyy? I don't see it anyone else the way ccp does it, and it always takes me a second to adjust to. |

There are roughly 320 million people in the world using the mm/dd/yyyy format, against 3.420 billion using the dd/mm/yyyy. Sorry to disappoint you, USA aren't the centre of the world ^^.

I just opened my launcher to look at the date format on the "Latest News" column. I found that, just as I thought, the date format is already mm/dd/yyyy. I propose that this should be changed to dd/mm/yyyy immediately in light of the 3 billion person majority in favour of the latter. Fleet Bookmarks New Gravimetric Sites Med Clones 2.0 |

Yeah, the day month, year set up is used in most countries where the game is played. We Americans just do our own thing. However, I would like to see the month changed from a 2 digit system to a 3 letter one. 06MAR2014 for example. I always like it that way. |

I suppose you think it's easier to count in units of twelve, three, and 1,760 than it is to count in units of ten. |

not that my friends are idiots, but if i schedule an op with an eve mail using eve time and date, they could get confused EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY?No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided""So it will be up to a pilot to remain vigilant wherever they may be flying and be ready for anything at any time" |

While much of the world uses dd/mm/yyyy, from a sorting perspective it makes the least sense... y/m/d ftw
On a relative side note, the imperial system's units (similar to hours, seconds, and the degrees in a circle) are designed to maximize the prime factorization of a given unit of measurement. If you're a fan of one-thirds of things (and who isn't!), and not a fan of infinitely repeating decimals...
...yeah, ok, the metric system is better. But you'll never convince me on the date thing, that's just silly. |

Y / M / D is superior from a sorting and organizing perspective. But so is the metric system from a measurement perspective.

Amusing thread. And so beautifully stays classy in accepting a honest mistake, and instead of spiralling down into GD rather everybody exposes their personal dateformat fetish. [:D]
Unwilling to stay on the sidelines, jumping in myself naturally.

Not really. You could easily make the sorting from right to left, then D/M/Y is the same as Y/M/D. Most people just prefer whatever they grew up with. So Americans will forever make me visit them in the wrong month on the wrong day if they surprise me with their M/D/Y bullshit. |

How about the USA finally progresses out of the middle age into modern age and uses proper date and time format, let alone measurement units?

Coming from this end of the spectrum that has to convert dates on-the-fly in English localized software for everything but Eve, I feel for you. It's very unsettling, more so than one would think.

That's good to hear, but unfortunately those stuck in the mud always want it their way and are the most vocal; so my comment stands.

mm/dd/yyyy is bullcrap.
Why can't you have a logical progression from smallest to largest or from largest to smallest atleast. Medium, Small, Large is weird and only confusing. |
