Anyone else hearing alarm bells?
I know this could well be for Dust or something, but given how well that seems to be doing I doubt they can justify anyone else working on it, so we can probably assume this is Eve related. I thought Incarna proved we didn't want subscription + micro-transactions?

Given the way the MMO industry, and online gaming (in general) is going, it might well be a case of "well, everyone else is doing it...".

Isn't DUST F2P P2W? World of Darkness may get a Pay 2 Dress shop similar to EVE. With ship painting we will get a Pay 2 Paint. So it somewhat makes sense CCP is looking for a director in that area of expertise. If anything fails, I think there's a intact monument in Amarr that we can start shooting if they try to step over the line of Pay 2 Win for EVE. Sovereignty and Population New Mining Mechanics |

If CCP would have had the "well, everyone else is doing it..." stance, EVE would have never happened. It continues to exist because it dares to be different, lets hope CCP "management" doesn't forget that. |

There was nothing micro about any of prices in the NEX store on release, you could buy real clothes for less money. TBH it made the Eve store look reasonable, even with the, still, ridiculous pricing and shipping costs.
Personally if they stick to vanity items I have no problem with CCP making a buck from people with the disposable income to indulge in them.

That would be so funny if they ruined the first exclusive VR game with microtransactions. Besides that I also hold the opinion that CCP should make a PC version for Dust 514. |

With the complete and utter faillure which is Dust 514 i am actually not suprised they are looking into this to make up for what probably is a huge loss. Looking into other stuff to monetize is a sensible step.
I don't mind vanity items you can buy for plex/aurum. But if they make it pay to win i am out of this game as well. |

Oh dear, ah well - maybe I need to move on.
No a money problem in itself because I'd happily spend more on Plex and Subs. I'm just against splintering the sandbox into NEX visual & created out of game stuff when there's a whole world of game lore that could stand behind all of the items we have.
I really don't understand why CCP can't go Plex only to pull in additional cash out of game? All content can still be traded on the market and people can convert their Plex-Isk into their vanity item (that was created or earned in game).
I'm happy to have this explained to me. |

Yeah, was Googling to see if it was legal in Iceland to charge an application fee and saw that. Was just thinking it would be funny to have to pay money to apply for a job to help a company make money. See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did. |

Look up revenue streams and business modeling. The most interesting way to do income streams is to collect fees off two very different customer segments that need each other.
Think of something like credit cards. both the banks and retailers need each other. Both benefit. Income streams can be drawn from both segments. Now add the extra segment of customers themselves and if you study it you can see fees moving between all three. Everybody has what they need, everybody is paid and everybody is happy. Its kinda like a symbiotic relationship or host and parasite but its between customer segments instead of companies or individuals. just a different perspective really.
It might be worthy discussion to isolate customer segments, In this enterprise there are many more than we see from inside the game. Think ISP, OS, Hardware, Tourists, energy on the outside and on the inside our usual t1, t2, caps, plexxers, pay to wins etc. These and more are all legitimate customer segment. Analyzing the needs, activities and goods and service produced can reveal potential inter dependencies that can be monetized.
But thats all poppycock, Eve is dying and there is a plot by CCP to turn this into a cross between WOW and pay to wins. :) |

Micro transactions aren't something you should be defending anyway. In no way does it actually serve you, and it just makes you look like some blowhard who gets erect for authority. |

No alarm bells. Its amazing to me the money CCP leaves on the table with Eve. They have basically no cosmetic micro transactions, which we all know would be eaten up by the players. And their IRL store is absolutely horrible; stocked with a pitiful selection of vastly overpriced good. Wow, actually the NEX and IRL stores are basically the same. So they definately need someone to show them how to make more income with the Eve IP.
As long as they don't make play to win items, who cares what they offer. You can buy or not. CCP is, contrary to opinions, allowed to make money. I know violence isn't the answer. I got it wrong on purpose. |

Iceland is pretty reasonable, only 2mil more than a Highsec Mining Permit. The risk of having your day ruined by other people is the cornerstone with which EVE was built and we want to keep that (infact, this is much more representative of the consensus opinion within CCP). |
