I am wondering about the feasability of using loot from level 4 missions as the supply for manufacturing/industry.
I am close to being satisfied with combat skills and completion time for missions, and was wondering how long it would take to train the skills neccesary to get into industry and if you could get enough material from missioning to support near continuous production on something with a reasonable profit margin. |

It depends how much mission loot are you able to generate. You also might need to buy some additional materials for production to supplement your mission loot. But generally speaking it can be quite profitable.
As far as skills go you don't need to train much (especially for T1 production). Just make sure you have Material Efficiency trained to V before you start.
Since you probably have plenty of salvaged components you might want to look into rig production. Also if you will be manufacturing in your mission hub it might be profitable to produce ammo and sell it on the spot.
Whatever you do just make sure you do proper calculations before you start (and don't forget to put a value on your mission loot and to include the price of BPCs/BPOs, manufacturing line costs, sale taxes, etc...). |

In my experience, you are better off just selling the materials.
You will find that you lack certain materials, and have an over-abundance of others.
You also won't have to bother with skills, or investing in BPO and getting them researched.
The only thing I ever recommend missioners manufacture themselves are cap booster charges, because it is trivial to do, and extremely convenient (the much smaller BPO and minerals are a lot easier to move around than the large charges themselves). |

If you are manufacturing their isn't really a way to produce all the materials yourself and there is no need. If you want to manufacture just buy the mats and sell the product. If you want to mission just sell the valuble stuff and reprocess the rest. There is no real synergy to be had with missions / manufacturing Money at its root is a form of rationing. I was also thinking about something along these lines but what I was looking to do was manufacture ammo.
I was using a lot of it on missions and thought this would be a money saver - make what I needed and sell the extra.
In checking this out - when you go to buy a BPO it is level 0 with the 10% waste factor. BPO for level 1 ammo is reasonable but to research this BPO is way hard. Every production station found had at least a 30 day waiting list to get a research slot so it would take like 60 days to get the BPO researched to level 2.
Or, is there somewhere you can buy BPO's that are already researched to say level 4 or 5? I have not seen anything listed on the markets or am I looking in the wrong place?

You can find researched BPOs on contracts or in sell orders. You can also queue up more than a single level of ME at a time, normally up to 30 days worth (which is overkill on ammo BPOs).
Not saying it's a good idea, but those problems can be overcome.

Jita is probably the best place to check and you don't even need to go there to check if any are available, just set the filters in the contract search and enter Jita as the location. Set type to BPO or BPC as required. Unless you are sure you want to go down the manufacturing route just buy some BPCs and see whether you like building things.
While I would just buy stuff off the market because I'm lazy it would be a small saving and an additional convenience to make your own ammo if you are using alot and it's T1. |

If you're already doing industry then sure you can used reprocessed loot to supply some of your minerals. But in general this idea is completely wrongheaded. Having minerals is not a reason to do industry. And unless you already have the scrapmetal reprocessing skill, you probably should be selling the modules directly rather than reprocessing them. Reprocessing stuff and building it while having poor skills in both is just going to lose you money.
