Sort of depends on the definition of manually.
Try double clicking in empty space to see, if that is what you meant.
Edit: Damn, I'm impolite today *sigh*... Welcome to EVE! Remove insurance. |

as said only way is to double click in space and your ship will go in that direction, it is actually a lot more useful then most people think. Perhaps not so much for pve but it is vital in pvp. |

There are shortcuts for controlling speed, but for direction, you need to click with mouse |

Here are some examples of manual maneuvers for your consideration.

Check out tracking speeds. There are a few very good tuts on youtube from eve university.... regarding maneuvering. Most important thing in this game is angular velocity.
You in a battle cruiser with large guns, me in a quick frig, I orbit, you shoot and shoot and hit.... nothing...
While approaching in a straight line has no angular velocity... I would be vaporized with the first volley.
MOVE... always MOVE... Don't us the orbit command stupidly... it will make you approach a ship in a straight line till it curves into orbit.
And so on...
Enjoy the looney bin!

You can't control it in a stick-and-rudder sense. You can manually direct your ship and set its speed, as mentioned above, but you don't have direct pitch, roll, or yaw controls. Keep in mind, the fancy-looking hull of your ship is just client-side flair; the server sees your ship as a moving ball bearing of variable size, with a velocity vector that can change from one second to the next.
