Not sure about others but...
I cannot play more then 2-3 hours and I am chewing into swap file...yesterday 3 hours into playing, evefile.exe chewed up over 750 megs of my 1 gig...as i warped through systems picking up ships and moving BPO's and clearing docks
sitting in dock or the same system is not as bad (maybe chew up 400 gigs)...but it has become extremely noticable as I have moved around the galaxy cleaning out docks and moving ships around this past week...
I am a little dismayed to reboot my comp ever 2 hours to keep eve running ...smoothly...
for the past two months or more I always reboot before any combat, PVP or PVE...if i have played more then and hour...

Solution, play in windowed mode and minimise the client regularly, it forces eve to dump things from memory and works fine here, most i ever get is about 200mb use

yeah i play full screen...and that shouldn't be and issue...
ill try the minimize - maximize to see if mem dumps as suggested above...but that should not need to occur to prevent memory leaks...
at least this would simply clear this issue without a reboot...i will try it today

i play in windowed and whenever it starts to get boggy i right click on the desktop and hit 'refresh' a couple of times. always see better performance after that.

From all the threads I've read on this Memory leak issue, it does only seem to affect certain people. So would this not point to a hardware driver combination being the issue rather than the client.
If everyone who has the memory leak posts thier DXDiag output perhaps a correlation to each persons PC and driver config could be seen.
Just a thought.. It may help. ------------------------------------------------- AWMCorp is Recruiting

Correct. People are getting so used to using workarounds that they have accepted them as 'the way things are done'. We should not be forced to run in windowed mode, turn off sounds, turrets, and effects to actually play this game with any sort of remote stability.
CCP really need to address the problems with the client, because a lot of them have been in the client since release, and seem to be pushed to the rear of the bugfix queue because their is a workaround.

Try turning off graphics acceleration in DirectX after Eve loads. It stopped 90% of my leak and makes me think DX9 is responsible for it and not Eve. It doesn't affect the graphics in Eve once it's loaded but Eve won't load without acceleration being on so make sure you turn it back on after you finish playing.
I can now play for 12 hours solid and not even notice a leak.

See I wonder about this issue.
I run full screen, with no leak occurring as far as task manager can tell me. I also have full effects and sound.
Stop blaming CCP

Its not pretty i know but until they fix it thats the workaround, if its bugged its bugged theres nothing you can do about it until its fixed, they know its an issue and constantly whining that the bug is still here doesn't make them fix it any faster.

Yes the client still leaks but minimising the client while windowed forces it to dump contents from memory, i.e it drops from 200mb use to around 23mb use until you open it up and it slowly starts to eat memory again.

if this is so common why don't you file a bug report with the needed information. i personally haven't been able to reproduce this so i'm not able to get the logfiles etc

Just leave eve open for a long time and do normal day to day stuff, eve's memory useage just keeps on creeping up until it gets stupidly high, note that you'll have to not minimise the client during this process

Oh and something i forgot to mention, i would BR this after running the log server for about 3 hours but firstly the log file would be massive and secondly my PC calls the eve executable exefile.exe * 32 :)

Same problem as me. I turn off DX acceleration and I can run both clients all night now with no problems.

No problems here. But I minimize fairly often to check the forums/etc so that may be it --------------- My views do not reflect the views of my corp, or my own views. |

Thats not totally true for all. I run full screen for pvp and windowed mode any other time. I still have memory leaks all the time. Been really bad past month. Didnt have it til the hardware changes. I use to run 2 accounts full screen no problem. Now i can barely run 2 windowed without one freezing and other one not responding at all. -----------------------------------------------

@Sharkbait Pilots stopped posting about the memleak because Oveur came along and told us 'There are three devs working on the memleak problem. Please stop posting about it. We know that there's a problem.'

First, I wish to thank you ALL for posting constructively...
I read them all...
One point made is to LOG these events...
We know about logserver.exe and we know how to review windows event viewer for logs and run diagdx logs and such..and log away....
I wrote this ...long ago and still update it from time to time...EvE best practices for stability and smooth sailing and has been stickied in the "Known issues and work arounds" forum for over two years.
No matter What all the technical issues are revolving around this issue, the fact remains, it is still and issue.
Yes it's well known....has been for a long while now...
We can only hope this issue will be addressed in the "near" future....
EvE is deep and has good end game play....after Kali is launched, I personally would be very pleased to hear CCP is going to put two full quarters into optimization, bug fixing, and such....
As I am not a software engineer nor work for CCP, lamenting on about it won't help this one bit....
Discussing it to understand the issue, provide postive constructive feedback and work arounds is what it's about...
