Question is regarding an event tonight.
I was running a sec mission in high sec. Ninja salvager came in and turned yellow suspect... (or thats what I 'think' happen) I targeted and took a few shots he left, then came back with a friend.
One guy was in a thrasher the other in a proteus (LOL didn't know I shot at a proteus) I was about 80 or 90km from wrecks and them. I had both target locked and could shoot at the proteus (again didn't say it was smart, just that I could) but every time I tried to shoot at thrasher my safety settings wouldn't let me. Thrasher got close enough and then warp scrambled me....
I assumed that warp disrupting me would now allow me to shoot the thrasher? but still got the message that said my current safety settings would not allow me to shoot?
Anyways that was my only question with that whole incident.
Was a given soon as I realized the suspect ship I shot at was a proteus I was blowing up shortly. I'm ok with that... it's all part of the game and kinda fun Just really curious bout the safety settings.... They let me shoot at the proteus when he looted my wreck but not the thrasher when he warp disrupted me...?
Other possible explanation is that I really get confused easily.... very possible. Any of you veterans reading this able to make sense of what might have happened to cause me not to be able to shoot the thrasher that warp disrupted me? or user error on my part? |

According to the killmail the Thrasher didn't actually engage you, it only shows yourself, a State Shukuro Ashigaru (which for some bizarre reason is listed as belonging to the Amarr Empire, even though it's a Caldari State mission NPC), and the Proteus. If the Thrasher pilot had used a warp scram on you then he would have shown up on it too.
He'd have also been wtfbbq'd by Concord for doing so unless you had a suspect/criminal flag or he'd activated killrights.

As above. Stabber likely just locked you and hoped you would shoot him (safety red needed) and get CONCORDed.
If the stabber would have scrammed you, he would turn criminal and get Concorded himself and you would have been able to shoot him with green safety.
Tip: search for the Crimewatch devblog, it explains all the current flags.
Safety:
Green is safe-ish. You cant do things that makes you suspect or criminal. You can shoot legal targets only (suspects, criminals, outlaws, war targets, LE people).
Amber gives you green + the option to go suspect (looting, remote repair someone in a war / duel).
Red is the only true style. Anything goes and you are responsible for anything you. No game mechanic helping you to prevent fuckups.
As for the stabber / scram confusion.
Is someone has yellow brackets around them...they just have you locked. If the brackets are red...they are using offensive modules on you (guns or ewar)
Also, now when you are target of any form of Ewar, it appears above your HUD and if right click the icon you can actually see who it is. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Thanks all for the replies, yeah good chance that it wasn't the thrasher that disrupted me... I don't know a whole lot about those T3 ships and what they are capable of doing so coulda just been him that did it.... Just didn't realize they could do it from so far away.
LOL if I see em again in same situation (ninja salvage my mission area) will do it again and pay more attention to who is doing what..... another naga down .... to learn a bit about the game... worth it :)
Anyways thanks for the input and info 07 |

Jonah Gravenstein wrote:@Masao Itomori, taking potshots at ninja looters is generally not a good idea, it plays into their hands as it's exactly what they want you to do. A PvE ship is generally no match for a PvP ship, and they know it. Even if you do pop one I can guarantee he'll be back in another ship to pop you, if you're still in the same system, before the limited engagement timer expires.
This.
The only reason they loot from you and go suspect is to hope you shoot them.
They are 99.9% of the time in a PvP fitted ship and to the same degree a PvP ship will win over a PvE ship (there are a very very few exceptions which basically always mean the flipper made a mistake and not many do). Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

This is how the crimewatch system works: http://www.thewholefrigate.com/2013/11/question-from-newbie-what-is-this.html
If you just want the flowchart: http://i.imgur.com/aQzqI6N.jpg
Safety settings work like this:
- Green - You can't do anything that would give you an orange or red flag
- Orange - You can't do anything that would give you a red flag
- Red - You can do anything
By "can't", I mean your ship will literally not do it. Keep in mind that these flags are not a substitute for knowing how to stay safe. Shooting someone legally means they can shoot you back, and may kill you. Green flag does not prevent you from getting into that situation. Some ships can do PVE while PVP fitted - the Ishtar in particular. Ooh indeed you can. But then the whole PvP ship vs PvE ship doesn't count anymore.
In the past we actually did do that and was effective. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

if you are concerned about the loot/salvage that you are "losing" to a ninja in your mission then you are doing the mission wrong. Blitz the missions for maximum effect. Only shoot ninjas if you want pvp and are ready for it. I don't play, I just fourm warrior. |

I'd also suggest not taking pot shots at ninja looters. Way long ago, in my "pre-pirate" days, I did the very same thing and the guy warped back in a Sleipnir and annihilated my Brutix. It plays into their hands very well.
And on the flip side of the coin, since I have done ninja-looting, it's not likely that a ninja-looter will be flying a ship that's outmatched by the target ship. They took the time to probe your ship down, warp to you and the patience to wait for you to engage. There's no way they'll take the risk of losing after all that effort.
Just things to keep in mind. |
