The above is very important because the "EVE would get more subs if......." crowd that hangs around the forums making suggestions do not understand why some of us like our rather exclusive little niche. More subs = more people in game and more financial pressure for CCP (a game company) to cater to the instant gratification crowd that wonders 'why our skills can't grow as we use them instead of this horrible time based thing?' and so on lol.
Game developers and gamers themselves tend to have one thing in common: neither side knows what consumers NEED in a game and many times listen to what the gamers say they want.
Even some EVE gamers think they want some things another way, but when they get it (Star Trek Online with it's optional pvp, good pve and no 'griefing' is imo the best recent example) they end up coming back to EVE while making the excuse that that other game isn't a sandbox lol. How can they make suggestions about a game when they don't even really understand their own gaming needs and motivations?

Confirming Tippia is Shadow Lord of the forums. I haven't been posting much because I need to update Jabber, haven't been getting my Tippia "post now" pings.
I mean, it couldn't be that most posted ideas (especially yours Shizuken) are crap that don't stand up to peer review and would have negative affects on the game if they ever saw the light of day or anything like that. Nope, it's all Tippia's fault.

Except that the losses come form two places, Advertising and RND. You would expect a loss if you are making a new game, i.e. EVR and WoD. And because you made ads for a new game , i.e. Dust. We will see what this year looks like when evr is out and if dust makes money. but off topic I am |

I do not understand the hype over this... but i'll address something.
I have played eve for 10 years (as of April 1st) In that time I have heard that:
Star Trek online, Star wars TOR, Black Prophacy, the next WoW expantion, etc will hurt eve.
And everytime, without fail, this is wrong.
I can tell you who is most likely to happen. IF that game is made, and IF it lives up tot he hype and the promises, you will see people run both eve and SC for a short time as they try it out. Then you will see some people jump to SC, which is natural. Then eventually they will get bored and come back to eve.
That's how It works. Unless a game sucks form day one, ala STO, in which case the eve player leave the new game almost immediately.
EvE and SC have so many differences, that its enough to not hold a true eve player for long. EvE will be fine, and if SC lives to the hype it will grow, which will be good for it, and good for eve. Because, ccp can make improvements based off things in SC and maybe a fire lite uner there butts to make improvements. In addition, you wll have the eve player who will compare things to eve, which might make an SC player jump to eve and try it.
I'm 99% sure, even if SC is a SMASH hit, it will hurt wow a hades of a lot more then eve.
Now to the OP: EvE is a hard game, its not boring however, only is if you don't do crap about it. That's the great thing about eve, I can do virtually anything I want. I can play as much or little as I want. Others game don't have that, and from the sound of it, SC won't either.
So try something else, join a corp, go see if you can hit every 0.0 system and not die, I mean tons to do. Just do it. |

S!
I have to say that I don't really understand the need to make posts like this one. If one doesn't like the game, don't play it. Not everyone is going to like everything. But I really don't understand the thought behind some of the points.
1* What's boring about the ship physics? As of yet the only game I've ever seen that has "realistic" space ship physics has been the ancient Lunar Lander which if I recall came out for the Atari, with good old vector graphics. Any space combat game would be really tough to sell as a "game" if it used real space flight physics. Read a few of Alistair Reynolds books and one will get the idea of what realistic physics could possibly be. With that in mind though, one can still have fun with a game that's unrealistic. Super Mario was fun, and one doesn't get hung up by the fact that real people can't jump three times their own height (among other things).
2* Given that the game's focus is a space combat, I'm not sure what else one needs. Does an MMO really require you to be able to dance naked on mailboxes with your character? The game doesn't prevent you from conversing with the other people. How else do you need to interact with them?
3* PvE depends on what you want out of it. I feel EVE is more interesting than most MMOs since there is a wide variety of PvE activities to get up to, all with varying amounts of risk. For me, there's the challenge of how efficient I can get at PvE. How can you maximize your ISK return from it. How do you acquire load outs for ships that help maximize it? What is one's goal with PvE? Do you want faction standing? ISK? Loot? Materials for Manufacture? Its as interesting as you make it. As of yet there's been really no MMO that killing mobs has been that exciting. That brings us to...
4* Can one really say that orbiting with your ship is more boring than clicking on a mob and auto attacking until the computer mathematically determines the end of said combat? EVE has one thing that almost no other MMO does though, you have skin in this game. Its amazing how much that makes a difference. Especially the farther you get in the game, the more you risk. Only game ever where when one enters combat - especially PvP - one feels your heart get going.
5* EVE has by far the best economy of any MMO. Hands down. Its as real as it gets, its live. As of yet there is no MMO that has an economy and market that runs as well as EVE's. Don't expect to play the market in EVE and "have fun" unless you're already one of those people who has fun by such endeavors. What game has a better market that is more "fun"? What makes a market "fun"? To me its dynamics are interesting. EVE's economy adhere's the rules of supply and demand. That's a key to what makes it work. AFAIK, there are no other MMOs where you can create buy orders to stimulate activity. Think about what that enables you to do.
6* What personal skills affect how well you do in other games? In every other MMO, my character's "skill" level is simply affected by how much time I spend online. EVE's is different. You either like how it works or you don't. I personally like it. It means I'm not forced to be in game all the time to advance my character.
7* See above. Best thing about EVE. If I take a week off, I'm not now behind everyone. As of yet, EVE is the only MMO that really has as much content as you want to partake in, and you can rapidly shift from playing a lot - and joining others who do - to playing a little. I took two years off and when I returned, my ships were still good to go fight with. They weren't obsolete, and suddenly all my stuff is worthless like every other MMO. People still needed my stores of Tritanium, people still buy the Thrashers I make. There's activities I can do casually, stuff I can do intensely if I want. For a casual MMO player, what could be better? Its only a second job if you want it to be. |

Serene Repose wrote:This is a game for adults. We adults aren't really impressed by eye candy. In fact. We play this 'cause we don't have to spend a lot of time looking at eye candy. True EVE players are more concerned with numbers. As a result we'd rather register the values of the numbers quickly. I'm sure, if they started using a decorative font for the numbers we'd mob rush Iceland carrying torches and various farming implements.
If you're into eye candy, there's plenty of neat spaceship games out there with "really cool" graphics. You can have all your friends gather around your monitor and oooh and aaaaah at your really cool game you'd have to be really cool to have downloaded.
This game also isn't the kind of game where a God of Internet Gaming (in WoW for instance), can come here, grind for the quick highend gear, then go around ganking other lowly players who just aren't as "good at gaming" as Mr. Epeen. (Sorry for borrowing your name there Mr. Epeen.)
We like the "training" thing because it's an adult way to handle what in MMOs is called "experience points." You can't power level here. Oh my goodness! Ain't that a shame? AND....
I thought everybody knew EVE is a job.
I hope this response clarifies things a bit for you.

I'm going with either: I saw the number $300,000 on a news site and wanted to play; or, I just left WOW and like grinding to spirit armor.
Though I will admit, I expected a realistic space simlator, so the physics bother me. Though I also get bored easily... No wait, that's you, make up your mind. Why did you even think the world needed to see this post? |

Enjoy the power and beauty of your frigate. Never mind, you will not understand the power and beauty of a well-fit frigate until you're well into a terribly-fit battleship. But trust me, in 20 million skill points you'll look back at your Rifter and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility really lay before you and how fabulous it really was.
You are not as skilled as you imagine.
Don't worry about losing ships, or worry but know that worrying is as effective as trying to out mine a 10-Hulk mining bot operation in an Osprey.
The times you'll really lose ships are apt to be times that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you 4 jumps through a high-sec autopilot route.
Do one thing, every logon, that scares you.
Align.
Don't be reckless with other people's ISK (and get caught), don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
D-Scan.
Don't waste your time on nerd rage; sometimes you're ahead, most of the time you're behind. The race is long, and in the end, it's only with your own inability to unsubscribe.
Remember the times your fleet came out on top. Forget the times that you lost a faction fit ship. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old kill mails. Throw away your old loss mails.
Train AWU 5.
Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your character. The most interesting capsuleers I know didn't know at 2.2m SP what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting 40m SP characters I know still don't. And besides, there's always the character bazaar.
Upgrade your clone.
Be kind to your reputation... you'll miss it when it's gone.
Maybe you'll go to null sec, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll start a WH corp, and maybe you won't. Maybe you'll get scammed out of your first billion ISK, and maybe you'll do the happy-chicken-dance on comms when you get your first Titan KM. Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance. So are everybody elses.
Enjoy your fits, use them every way you can, don't be afraid of them, or what other people think of them. Quite frankly they probably suck at fitting too.
PVP: Even if you have nowhere else to do it but RvB.
Read the right-click menu, even if you're sure what you want isn't there.
Do. Not. Read. The. EVE. Forums. They will only make you feel bitter.
Get to know your Corp mates. YouGÇÖll never know when theyGÇÖll awox.
Be kind to your FCGÇÖs. TheyGÇÖre the best link to your PVP and the most likely to stick with you during a hot drop.
Understand friends come and go. But for for a special few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and time zones. For the more war decs you get, the more youGÇÖll need people to fleet up..
Live in New Caldari once, but leave before it makes you soft. Live in Lowsec once, but leave before it makes you hard.
Roam.
Accept certain, inalienable truths:
Jita will scam.
FCs will welp fleets.
You too, will become a bitter vet. And when you do, you'll fantasize that when YOU were young:
People really doubled your isk.
FCs were capable.
and there were no spies.
There were always spies.
DonGÇÖt expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a sweet BPO collection, maybe you have a Trade alt, but you never know when either one might get robbed.
DonGÇÖt mess too much with your remaps, or in two months you'll be stuck mapped CHA/INT/PER for the next year.
Be careful whose contracts you accept, but be patient with those who supply them. Contracts are a useful form of trade, and using them is a way of fishing the old crap out of the corporate hangar, dusting it off, lying about where you got it from and selling it for more than it's worth.
But trust me on joining a corporation
