This is the only time in my life I will cheer a person's death.
These jerks ruined a funeral for a friend of mine in San Fran.
They've ruined funerals for our soldiers.
Good Riddance.

A friend of mine, Steve Gutowski, came home in a coffin. Specialist Gutowski was KIA in Afghanistan. These assholes showed up and picketed his funeral. Every cop with-in three towns distance was there, around the pricks, partitioning them so the family wouldn't have to see them or hear them. We did everything we could to send out brother off properly, without worrying that these animals would be heard.
Personally, I would have put the bullet in his head long ago. People like him are the reason religion is treated so poorly nowadays, especially when it comes to Christianity. These people are not Christian and never had been; a Christian believes in the primacy of the New Testament, after all. They do not and never have. So these things will crawl back under a rock without Fred to lead them.
He is a cult of personality, and every personality cult draws in those lacking self-esteem. Part of my prays that another Ruby Ridge would happen to them, but that's jacked up. |

People like Phelps has certainly not helped the Christian image in America and worldwide. But neither have religious Americans done a great job either, using guaranteed right in the constitution of religious freedom as a religious entitlement to exempt themselves from this or that.

In the 30 years or so I've been familiar with him and his church, not once has any local or nationally known preacher stood up and denounced this terrible and ideologically incorrect looney bin of a church. No protestant preacher has ever said anything bad about him publicly. EVER.
And I ask "why not ?"
As far as I'm concerned, preachers like the overly friendly Joel Osteen are complicit in the damage done over the years.

Well, up until last week, some in Arizona whipped this out as an excuse not to assist "my kind" in obtaining pizzas, flowers, and wedding cakes. They claim to be "red-blooded Americans" but are so far removed from the true idea of "American" their final "goal" I believe is something that needs to be watched, and even investigated for possible treasonous actions, especially if they get persistent and really arming themselves, etc. (brief tinfoil hat there). addendum:
And it's not just churches and preachers.
Nationwide Irish groups who conduct local parades absolutely will not allow Irish Gay support groups to march in their St. Patrick's Day parades.
Not even in the one in San Francisco.
This has been a point of contention for decades that is finally getting attention.
Samuel Adams, Guiness, Budweiser and others have pulled their parade sponsorship over this from all parades, especially in New York and Boston. New York Mayor DeBlasio has denounced the New York parade and is not attending this year.
Just thought I'd bring this up as it's not that well known of an issue.
And it's the only point on which the Irish disappoint me, utterly. Shameful. "He has mounted his hind-legs, and blown crass vapidities through the bowel of his neck."-á - Ambrose Bierce on Oscar Wilde's Lecture in San Francisco 1882 |

I wish that were true. But even after they were restricted to being 1/4 mile away or something (can't find article with exact distance) they just kept on going with it.

And I ask "why not ?" Well you've also got to realize that the King James Old Testament exists in only one religion, which is Protestant Christianity. The rest of the Christian religions and even some of the related outliers such as Catholicism are all about forgetting that book, and many teach that it is approximately the Book of Judah (which bears a shred of truth). But the Westboro Baptist Church is following the Old Testament Ideals more closely than most Christian churches follow the New Testament. I think perhaps Protestant pastors feel a sort of longing to be able to have the sort of courage they do. I grew up in a Protestant church fellowship and they spoke often of our duty to go teach to the world and leave our imprint on it. They would have praised the WBC I think, even if they didn't follow in their footsteps. Fit a warfare link to your tech 1 battlecruiser. Train Wing Commander. Nobody seems to pay attention from this little snippit: "Incredibly, all of the money was from one weekend's donations, the church says."

Catholicism is an outlier of the Christian chriches More like all the outliers are offspring of the Protestant Reformation's push away from the Catholic Church.
The evolution of the current primary monotheistic religions goes like the following.
Judisim - Speculated as significantly earlier than the following 2
Christianity - 10-30 AD
Islam - 600 AD
Christianity was pretty much one church up until the early 1000's. @1050 AD the church had its first major split into the Eastern and Western Churches, which became known as the Eastern Orthodox Church and Catholic church. Then came the Protestant reformation circa 1500 AD, after which comes all the outliers. |

I don't know much about Osteen, except that he's the current TV evangelist superstar. Yeah. Osteen is not really one of the contentious ones at all. He's more like others should be.
He never preaches any kind of hatred or ill-will towards "the Others".
But it is a startling amount of money brought in......... and TAX FREE.

Moreover, those are just two days of "on the ground" donations for a Saturday and Sunday. With no mail delivery on Sunday's, the amount does not taking into consideration other sums received from mail-in donations not yet received from both the national and international markets the church's program reaches
