With a cargo scanner? Yes they can see names, cans and hanger contents. No they can NOT see the contents of the cans in your hanger. __________________________________

Cargo scanners will scan everything inside your cargo, in a can or not. Putting goods inside secure cans do not hide the contents.

Every person I have asked has said the exact opposite of this.

Edited by: Fintaki on 01/05/2006 04:08:08 Yes, I was going to say the very same thing - used to be that the contents of a can were hidden. If it is true that the contents of a can can be seen with a scan - When did this change and where is the patch note on it?
LOL Can can

I think it got ninja'd onto us either in ColdWar or RMR. The only things a scanner can't detect are those inside a plastic wrap (for obvious reasons). The unscannable flag is probably the reason for excluding illegal goods from escrow courier missions. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. So,will this work:- If you want to run something illegal, or expensive, escrow it to yourself and wait for the escrow to end....it'll be returned to you in plastic wrap!! Now it's unscannable.

Should work. Or set yourself a courier mission.

And that's where the idea falls apart.
If it's illegal, it can't be escrowed.
That's the kind of loophole that gets closed really, really quickly. -------- Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk [04:21:15] Mebrithiel Ju'wien > Nik's bio 4tw btw [07:38:53] Graelyn > Nikolai for Dev 108!

Doh!! Forgot about that!!! It'd work for BPs tho, and other valuable items.

The only thing that hides items from a scanner is plastic wrap. This is mentioned in pretty much every "OMG GRIEFER KILLED MY SHUTTLE/INDY WITH T2-BPO/BILLION-ISK IN IT" thread.

Not even in a system where it's legal?

Key thing is you have to courier crap to yourself from time to time too or else people would know, wrapped goods = very valuable.

If i fit a passive targerting mod, cargo scanner and hover outside one of Jita's gates quietly scanning passing industrial ships without instas. Am I going to be concord fodder as soon as I engage my scanner?
Also is there anyway I can scan/destroy local npc shipments? - the sort that haven't come across warp drives yet.

You won't get concorded and I believe you can scan the NPCs.

Nip this in the bud once and for all:
PLASTIC WRAP DOES NOT WORK!!!:It does not hide ANYTHING, I have tested it and tried it with Zydrine, Megacite and BPOs. Again, Plastic Wrap DOES NOT HIDE ITS CONTENTS when you are scanned.
And, as everyone else mentioned, neither do Secure Canisters, nor the regular Canisters hide anything, if you are scaned.
The feature where you were able to hide stuff from the Cargo Scanners in Secure Cans and Plastic Wrap HAS BEEN NA(e)RFED. Do not realy on things people tell you - test them yourself.
There is NO PROTECTION against cargo Scanners - If you must transport something sensetive, transport it in a Battleship, or something which can survive for at least few minutes the assult, till CONCORD gets involved.
