Hi. Posting on an alt for security reasons.
My CEO just made me a director in a small wormhole corp.
What does a director actually do? What are the mechanics? And how do you be a good one?
Thanks. |

Effectively you have ALL rights apart from being #1. Corps giving out roles like candy generally are terrible so steal all assets and get out, that's generally what new corp directors do.
Serious answer; leadership isn't about a title, it's about having people skills, being able to rally people and making stuff happen. So if the corp you're in is actually any good you probably got that role for a reason, don't stop doing it. |

In terms of game mechanics, a director can do everything a CEO can do. In my (wormhole) corp for exemple, my directors help me maintain and fuel our POS's.
In terms of gameplay, what you should do as a director depends on your corp. Generally, people look at the directors and CEO for leadership and guidance. But like Gregor said, you normally don't get director roles for no reason, so you must be doing something right :p |

Seriously...
You got director roles granted to you and have to ask what a director does in a corp.
This means 1 of 2 things:
1. You shouldnt be granted that role, as you clearly lack the knowledgethat is needed to be an actual director. 2. The corp is failing / you have a clueless CEO handing out roles to people he shouldnt (as obviously is the case). Steal what is there and leave.
Not even going to bother with this... Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

There are many roles other then director that gives you the needed access.
Pos Fueling Technician is all you need to fuel a POS. Assigned wallet accountant is all you need to buy items on corps behalf.

In YOUR case direct the efforts of those who are in your corp, in the WH, etc. People in hisec atm can be valuable before they get back to the WH. People in the WH may not be so valuable in hisec because they are in the WH. Noobs in the corp can be valuable because they dont know and need some dirtection.
Take a good look at the labor pool - what can people do or not do. WH life is a little more sophisticated and isolated than living in hisec right? Theres all kinds of stuff there to do and the corp needs somebody that can put it all together.
In other words. What does the corp do - before asking what the Director do.

There are two kinds of "directors":
1. Actual directors are people with the director role. They are a proxy for the CEO (directors have all roles), and can do nearly everything the CEO can do. Only the CEO can make people a director.
Only the CEO can: * Rename wallet divisions. * Rename hangar divisions. * Change the logo. * Update the skills applied to the corp. * Resign and make someone else CEO. * Assign the director role.
Directors can: * Start a general vote. * Perform any sanction-able action, including: ** Declare war. ** Surrender. ** Hire allies. ** Lockdown / unlock blueprints. ** Create shares. * Assign all roles except director and CEO. * Rent / un-rent station offices. * Change reinforcement timers on ihubs. * Transfer SOV. * Transfer POCO. * Transfer stations. * Remove members.
2. Virtual directors are people with all roles except the director role. These people can do most stuff that a CEO and directors can do. Virtual directors can be assigned non-directors / non-CEO people who can grant roles.
Virtual directors cannot: * Perform any sanction-able actions. * Assign other people the director role.

There are 2 reasons the director roles are given out. 1. The CEO is an idiot. 2. The CEO trusts the person to stand in when they are not online and help with the running of the corp.
As a director you have most of the rights and all of the responsibility of the CEO without you being the kill of the castle. Essentially pos set up, recruitment, pos fueling, etc. often good corps have multiple directors that try and focus on one area while helping out in the others. Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if your in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. |

Yeah... I would be very careful with my assets in a corp where the CEO is giving out director roles willy-nilly... The fact that you even have to ask what a directors role does tells me you aren't ready to fulfill the position.
You may be honest enough to not rob the corp, but someone else may not be and walk out with the corp wallet and all of your assets. In addition If director roles are being handed out so easily, then I assume that awoxers would have no problem getting in either, so you have that danger too.

This.
If people who must ask what a director does are given director roles. I seriously doubt the security and stability of the corp. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Agreed with J'Poll... I never, ever hand out Director roles. The closest you get in my corp is Executive Director, a custom title encompassing 95% of what a normal Director can do. They can't make shares, for example. Only two people in my corp have this role, and they can act in my stead when I am not available. I trust these people implicitly, and they have fillfilled pivotal roles in the social dynamic of our corp at the expense of their own time or ISK for months, if not years. They are not just random players that have stuck around for a while, these guys are very knowledgable, quite experienced, and have invested more time and ISK into corp-stuff then they can realisticly steal back. |

There are 3 main duties that you will need to fill.
- Set other corporations as dark blue.
- Sit on low sec side of WH each day in an Iteron V filled with sleeper salvage while ranting in local about how stupid low sec dwellers are.
- Change POS passwords at random times daily.
On a serious note, maybe you should ask the CEO what is expected from you. If you can't get a straight answer, refer back to the lines above.

If given director access your job is to make shares, give them to yourself, call for a CEO vote. Vote for yourself, and then strip the former CEO of all roles. At this point you can wait till hes online again and repeatedly gank his ship (concord won't interfere with this because you are in the same corp) before kicking him from the corp and stealing all items that aren't tied down. Stir and repeat.
Oh, Wait. You mean you like this corp?

Malcolm Lionel is most correct. Directorship tends to indicate you're an organizer. Inxentas Ultramar is also correct. The role is best given to people who lose more than they gain from betraying the corp.
You should consider going corp shopping, instead of investing in your current one. To be blunt, giving you directorship was a mistake that ought to concern you.

I was in a small WH corp once where we were all directors because the CEO found the corp interface too much of a pain to deal with. :-) But we all knew each other well and from outside EVE, so the risk of spais was, like, zero.
When I ran a larger corp (not this toon, but my main), we had semi-open recruiting and were much, much more careful about granting roles.
If this is a corp where you don't know your fellow members very well, I'd be kinda wondering what was up with the CEO being so free with directorships. |

The pattern I am seeing is people "in the know dont do that".
This guy possibly knows nothing and apparently neither does the corp leader guy. That might be why he is asking the actual question "what does a Corp Director do?"
Sounds like he may even want the definition of a Corp Director in a WH Corp maybe? |
