Apologies if this has already been answered before ...
I can't get my head around how to work with wide range buy orders. My skills are 1 short of full region but that's not my point.
I know how to set them up and manage them. Here again, not the question.
I'm more interested on how you deal with what has been purchased. My understanding is that I'd throw a wide net and try to buy pretty cheap (much cheaper than local trade hub). I've done that once ... just to try.
But then problem. I've 1 or 2 units scattered over 10's of systems. Re-listing them where I got them is likely going to have me with sell orders locked up for long period of time ... not good. Hauling everything to the local trade hub would have me die a slow death of boredom, not to mention the time return would be brutal. Contract the goods make no sense either ... I can't justify contracting a single T1 shield booster... not to mention it prob. would never be picked up.
So i'm left here scratching my head. I can buy lots of stuff pretty cheap and pretty fast, but no way to sell it again. I have the first part sorted : 'buy low' ... but I'm stuck with the 'sell high' part in this case ;)
Not sure if you guys are willing to share that sort of info, god only knows you big fish are reluctant to share what you consider of value ;)
Thx for reading. Bob. |

Isn't it an economies of scale thing? I could be wrong, but I think the people who do this do it on a MASSIVE scale. that way after a day/week/month they have so much in every station they can either have it hauled for them or they can haul it themselves when they have nothing better to do.
I could be wrong though. I don't have the sort of isk to get into that sort of business :-) |

Which tells me I probably haven't either ... that would make sense ...
Back to 0.01 for another while it is then ...

There are two types of wide range orders that I use.
Type 1 are high value much sought after items. I buy them region wide and sell them were I buy them. Margins range from 8% to 30%.
Type 2 are low cost high volume that are easy to ship via Public contracts to a central processing site. Margins are from 8% to 15% but turnover is much more rapid. Shipping usually accounts for .8% of value.
If a product falls below the 8% margin, I stop trading in it until it inevitably rises above it again.
I started this type of trading when I had less than 30 Million ISK and it has worked well for me over the years. As my wallet expands I opt for more expensive items for type 1 and more volume for type 2

Depending on your situation and the items involved, it may make sense to place wide area orders for multiple items. Assuming you have enough variety and volume, the stations should fill up with enough goods quickly enough to make the hauling part of the equation make more sense. |

I do this in Sinq Laison. I know that region well - name a system in it, and I can usually tell you what drives its local economy - mining, miner ganking, missioning, small gang PVP or blob vs sucker PVP.
I sell the products where they are, unless I know there will be no demand at all in that system, in which case, I make a case-by-case judgement to courier contract it to somewhere with demand, or to wait until I'm 0.01 ISKed on the buy order and dump it on a competitor.
I love doing the latter with mining barges in Rancer .
