Speaking of that, tried to find one favorite album to listen from tube this morning but couldn't, so it was sencond best from them : Soundgarden - Superunknown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQ6jEuBC4iE (oh my, has it already been 20 years 8| )
20 years. Now I really feel old.
Still, it's still relevant and one of the greatest albums of our time. We had Superunknown, Dirt, and Ten 20 years ago. Now we have dubstep. We went from real musicians to people dropping pots and pans and mixing it on a laptop and calling it music.

Mudvayne? Wat. Can't tell if serious or joking.
I enjoy electronica as well, just not turrible dubstep/house/garbage. Trifonic is amazing, you should check them out. There's a big difference between Aphex Twin and, well, that crap you linked above. Sorry.
Also, Pallbearer for some awesome melancholic doom.
Junius FTW.

Yeah, all those genres have their groups who are trying to outdo eachother, and be darker or more hardcore than the others, to prove that they are truer to the genre or whatever, but it lacks any real substance. I think you see through the act when you're older. You can even see it happen in different bands as they age. Like Einst++rzende Neubauten went from this to this. When i was a teenager I used to think industrial noise shows were amazing because they were finding the beauty in chaos, or something, but now i find it insufferable. Can only tolerate it if there are Genesis P. Orridge lyrics on top of it. Can't say i was ever a huge death metal fan, and there's even less of it i can tolerate with each year, but i'll definitely be listening to particular industrial and goth bands that aged well for the rest of my days. I'd hate to hear you turned your back on the genres entirely, because you have a rare understanding of them.
Well, I didn't turn my back on the whole genre entirely, and our little group still visits WGT every year..but nowadays more out of nostalgia (and for the booze of course) than anything else. Not that I didn't listen to that music at all anymore..I just "broadened" my taste. Ten years ago I would never have listened to stuff like this- but it's awesome..really...listen to the whole song. Maybe when you grow older you just don't let self-obsessed subcultures dictate your taste any more.
edit: @ Surfins' : I love Joan Jett, but I prefer the songs that sound as if they came directly from the fifties like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwNFu5MGDu4. Feel Good Music :) Please don't feed me. |

My tastes have always been pretty broad, and i've never really bought into looking for an identity by letting a genre define who i am. Even when i was at my most obsessed with industrial i'd alternate that with stuff like the Meat Puppets or The Legendary Pink Dots. Much to the annoyance of my 'hardcore' friends. What would people think if they saw them listening to such things? They have an image to uphold.
My music library is around 275gb atm (legitimately purchased, of course), and always growing. Industrial probably makes up just 1/4 of that, but remains one of my favorite genres. Today I discovered and am extremely pleased by this obscure Psych Rock band from Spain in the 70s called SMASH
They have some real nifty trippy songs with a mix of local influences.
This is one of the many good songs they have, totally love it ...
Smash - We come to smash this time (03. Behind the stars)

Father Figure - George Michael
Discussion Question: In the music video, is Michael's character supposed to be a boyfriend finding out about an affair the model is having with a photographer, in an affair between the model and her photographer boyfriend, or an obsessive, stalker cab driver? Wikipedia won't help, as it proposes all three of these options as potential possibilities. ISD Cyberdyne Ensign Community Communication Liaisons (CCLs) Interstellar Services Department |

It really just depends on what you interpret the video as (great art is usually interpreted in many ways, like EVE. :P) I think he was just having an affair.
