I decided that it is the time to give my contribution to New Eden. In the next months, for the Fanfest I hope, I will give you a surprise. It will be a difficult road, difficult but possible thanks to my corp and to who will decide to partecipate.
Now just look the first preview and tell me your impression :-)

Technically nothing: it is a browser. A customized browser for EVE: it will show your skill progress and more. It will have a customized name, appearence and more. |

As a fellow developer I have to ask, why reinvent the wheel? Would it not be simpler to make a theme for Chrome/firefox and just write some addons to customize it as you want it to be rather then write a completely new webbrowser that will most likely be filled with security holes and one that I would never use unless there would be a strong development team behind it that could support it and release updates.
The security aspect is a big factor for me and wile I think that its a very cool project I have to ask. Will you release security updates and continue to develop it? 6.023 x 10 to the 23rd power alligator pears = Avocado's number Dubbed-áNot-A-Carebear by-áMalcolm Shinhwa A carebear's diary |

It is based on Firefox, do not worry :-) In fact it will be a customized Firefox, I'm also starting to talk with the Mozilla team for this project. |

Marchus Triad wrote:It is based on Firefox, do not worry :-) In fact it will be a customized Firefox, I'm also starting to talk with the Mozilla team for this project. So then its not a complete browser you are writing but just a custom theme and addons. I would be very hesitant in using this browser due to that you have a very easy way of monitoring what people are doing, capturing passwords and so forth. Don't get me wrong I love the idea of a good eve browser even if its not needed since I have some rainmeter thingys on my desktop that tracks everything for me. But the security aspect is still lacking in my mind since we have no idea what you are putting into it while you are saying that its a rewritten firefox or more likely just a skin for firefox it still leaves some security questions. If you are rewriting firefox to customize it then you will have to release updates since while the core might be updated by Mozzila your part will not and there will be those trying to find a security hole in it. If its just a theme and addons then just release it onto the "store" so anyone can download them, maybe take a dollar or something for your work.
But before I get a more comprehensive list of what it is you are actually doing since you are not writing a completely new browser as it seemed at first I would like to know what you have done before I would even think of downloading it.
I am sorry if I come off as harsh and mean but these are real issues since its not hard to plant malicious programs in "your" browser that will allow you to capture information and so forth. Some might just think cool EvE browser and install it and not think of the risks. Well I wish you the best of luck but I would love some more details on what you are doing. 6.023 x 10 to the 23rd power alligator pears = Avocado's number Dubbed-áNot-A-Carebear by-áMalcolm Shinhwa A carebear's diary |

Again, do not worry because I will not write the addons: I'm not a coder. I'm starting this project but to code is not my work, soon I will look for a coder ( a near, real life one ) to make a simple addon who show all the necessary information, using the API key you will put in.
The idea is to give a simple modification to always have your EVE character under the eyes. If it will be possible for both Chrome and Mozilla.

Make this possible :-) Pay the coder if needed, for example.
Also I'm researching what is there and what not: I see there are some addons but not all works, not all are open source, so my work is to provide the coder with all necessary open codes to start in this case.
I also try to talk with browser teams to avoid errors in license and similar things. |

So... you are going to pay someone to develop a free addon?
Whatever floats your boat.

I know a browser IS a software :-) I mean: my idea is to integrate a good EVE monitor system into a browser like Mozilla and\or Chrome, something fan made and ready to use for beginners. It will provide the links to all the website one need to know and more.
In my mind it can be a great entry point for a player. |

The idea is to give a simple modification to always have your EVE character under the eyes. If it will be possible for both Chrome and Mozilla.
My work will be to provide a ready solution ( Mozilla and\or Chrome based ) with all the necessary tools ready. My role is to make this possible, a coder will create or provide the addons ( open source if possible or at least I'll ask to some testers here to verify them ).
Understand that this project is starting now :-) I hate to rain on your parade. Its a nice idea and I like it, I have written an addon for chrome that I use that shows my skill queue. But with that said I would not recommend people to use it since I only update it from time to time when I got some extra time. There is far to much that could go wrong since I have only made it as a hobby project.
If you are serious in doing this then get a plan together, get the coders. Look over what is reasonable to do and what is not. If you need help send me a mail and we can talk. But I think what you are asking is something that already exist. Evemon is a great tool and while its not a browser it still does what I want it too do. I don't need to have my eve information in a browser nor do a need a specific "EvE browser" I use chrome since it got everything I want, its the safest browser right now and I can sync all my bookmarks on all of my pc's easily. I would not start using a new browser just for EvE.
Its a cool project and I will follow how it turns out but I think that you want to do something that very few will use. 6.023 x 10 to the 23rd power alligator pears = Avocado's number Dubbed-áNot-A-Carebear by-áMalcolm Shinhwa A carebear's diary |

A portable browser integrated with EVE monitoring tools was the idea. Noone say you have to change something: Chrome is still Chrome, Firefox still Firefox.
In every case I post the idea exactly to receive opinions and up to now seems I have to find a better idea.

The main issue is that what you want to do already exist, is well developed and widely used. For people to switch from that you have to come up with something even better and do it so much better then its already done and even then it might still fail because people are used to the old tool.
I wish you the best of luck but I think that it will be hard to come up with something thats not already done and established. 6.023 x 10 to the 23rd power alligator pears = Avocado's number Dubbed-áNot-A-Carebear by-áMalcolm Shinhwa A carebear's diary |

Again, EVEmon is not a browser, EVEmon is not what I want to make but you make cleat that people won't use it. I'm just looking for a way to contribute to EVE because I want to do it.
Customized browser is a new thing but as said seems noone will use it so it is a bad idea. |
