Saw on themittani.com an article about massive battle happening in 49-U6U on the chinese server involving some 60ish titans killed so far.
Did some googling like every time I read something interesting to me and found that there's an article in wikipedia about the battle of B-R5.
Now, hell, that's something I'm not even sure how to react to - Eve Online player made history on the Wikipedia.
Are someday our (well not children but) grandchildren going to read in history class about the miner ganks, or the Jita scams, or the colossal battles we've fought in Eve?
Just wow... |

What a good idea for a higher education degree. Eve Online Studies BA at the university of High Wycombe (formerly the A40 Onramp Polytechnic) |

Don't get me wrong. I too find the idea of what you said ridiculous.
I was baffled however how real sometimes the virtual world can get. |

A few years ago when I was still in school, I was thinking of getting a degree n history (hell I prolly still can, I have a lot of credits in it...) anyway, one thing I would of done if I had gone for a master was a thesis on the history of eve online, from whithen and compare it to real world scenarios.
To be 100% honest, if you look at some of the politics and things behind the scenes of battles, they are fascinating. For example, there was an article posted here from 07, that had Helmar talking about the politics of when eve first opened. You had the Americans in the north, the Russians in the east and the Scandinavians in the west. Russia and Scandinavia were at war, and the American corps stayed out of it... But well it turned out that the Americans were secretly supply the Scandinavia's with ships and money to fight the Russians. When the Russians found out, they curb stomped that operation and wound up wining the war.
It was just like 'wow we really do things that mirror irl'
I mean hell even the collapse of bob, the not true stories comic version but the real story, is freaking awesome.
You have all kinds of little history, that could easily be studied in a history class as a whay to analize and look at human nature and interaction. As eve is one of the only games where everyone plays together. |

We already have a few times. Largest players ever on a single server, we broke that one a bunch. Largest player battle, broke that one. Most destructive player battle, we have that beat. Biggest gaming scam, several of these.
Now if we happen to cause peace between a real world conflict because diplomats were playing eve and negotiated via eve.. oh boy...
And yes it can happen, I had one of the son's of the a high ranking Indonesian gov official in my corp for a while, till he left eve and ran for gov himself. |

Yes. Ultimately, the people playing this game are humans, and it truly is interesting to see how humans behave in a virtual environment governed by different rules than reality. Its almost like an alternate reality, since people themselves have developed their own societies in the game. The gap between reality and virtual reality is quickly closing. |
