There is no such thing as a British accent tbh.
It's highly dependant on which part of the country you are from.
I think the reason there seems to be more brits than americans is that the game was launched by a European company in Europe before it was pushed in the US where as all other MMORPG's are published by American companies in the US first.
In America, we make fun of the British accent ALL the time. In school, on comedy shows, on the Internet, etc. Many people think it sounds very "sissy" and funny (no offense, I don't personally think this). In my opinion, there is no American accent. It's just...normal speaking. But then, a German would say there's no German accent, of course.
So if you are a british girl you are ok.

Might be time to start actually talking to people and/or travelling. There are at least a dozen or so unique American dialects. There's just no way someone could listen to a person from El Paso and think they sound the same as someone from New Hampsire.

Which British accent would that be, then? Ulster, Geordie, Scouse, Brummie, Yellowbelly, Clydeside, Aberdeenshire, Estuary, HIghland, RP or West Country? Or one of the many others I can't bring to mind offhand? ________________________________________________

firstly, don't forget about PC Gamer UK's repeated hammering of "GO PLAY EVE" in every issue.
secondly, the UK has it's fair share of sci-fi freaks
thirdly, the game seems to have been marketed towards the EU audience more than a US audience. with quite a lot of people in the EU not able to speak good (or any) english, they may be put off leaving a high-percentage of british players

One obvious point is that many other games are sharded, and typically by time zone - so if you are in the "Eastern US Time Zone" server most of the people you will meet are going to be from the US. That doesn't explain why Eve seems to be "dominated" by the British, but I suspect that it isn't. The visitor statistics posted above seem to indicate that the biggest single nationality in Eve is American, and my impression is that this is true. (I would guess that my corp is half American, a quarter UK and the rest continantal Europe.) However, by comparison with your experience in other games which are almost wholly US, the contrast makes the British presence appear dominant - the unusual is noticed more. This phenomenon is observed in male workplaces when women start to join the workforce - when they reach something between 25-30% the men start to believe that they are "outnumbered".

Is there one somewhere? After all, player are required to signify where they are from at the registration. It'd be interesting to know of what material Eve is made of.

There is little to no advertising for EVE in America that I have seen. I pick up a gaming magazine from time to time and not one mention of EVE. I watch G4tv all the time, no EVE. Few of the American gamers minus the ones who play and there close friends know about EVE.
Theres a conspiracy in America to keep EVE down I think.

Originally by: Asestorian Maybe EVE gets worse reviews or something in American magazines/websites? I know that a lot of popular games magazines here in Britain like EVE a lot, and always give it a good review/score. Could be.
That's definitely part of it. Eve gets very little coverage in the US, or at least it did for a couple years, so it's natural that more Brits would know about it and want to play.
Also, the game got better distribution in the UK, so it was easier to get involved with it than the US. It's relatively easy to find boxed copies of the game in the UK still, but damn hard in the US, if at all possible.
Originally by: Bl4zer But, cmon, this is the Eve forums, we don't let facts get in the way of pointless speculation.

Dont believe everything you read on the internet. In 34 years I can think of only a couple of times that I would consider hearing the british accent being made fun of, and usually it was a comedy on television where they exaggerated it. There are also several different american accents, thats if you dont count the accents of immagrants that have learned American English. _______________________________________________ I am the devil, and I'm here to do the devils work.

Much though I hate to burst your bubble...
The geographical name for the bunch of islands off the coast of France - including Ireland - is the British Isles.
Ulster is part of Ireland which is very definitely British. Don't confuse Ireland, the island, with Eire, the republic. ________________________________________________

Ive yet to see an Englishman pull off anything but an over exagerated southern accent.
If he can pull off the Standard Midwestern Dialect of American English than he wins a cheeseburger.

British people make the best gangleaders.
Nothing like a stern British voice leading a gang, firmly and surely. Everyone shuts up and listens. Its the Star Wars effect - all the Empire bad guys had British accents.
Its easy to respect a good British voice. Try saying that about a Texan...

its the good old british weather again. you see in the US where the sunb is hot or the snow is cold people get use to it. this lead's to OUTDOOR ACTIVITYS, where here in the United of Kingdoms we have unstable climits, in other words it goes from freaking summer to winter and abck again abut 5 times a week. this has lead to people not having much time for outdoors and spending more time in their dwellings.
People thus live through their computers and tv's. meaning there is a overexposure of sci-fi. this combined with crap tv like "LOST" intrest and ER has lead to a extreamly huge gaming and interactive culture.
whats does this all mean? we are lazy g*ts who rather play a game and as theres more nerds here that would be eve, than go walk fido.

Bingo. You win this thread. Lots of British players I know have started playing after word-of-mouth recommendations that Eve is a "multiplayer Elite".

American i found from watching family guiy and the usual top shows they release seem to think of us as all posh gits with weedy arms bad teeth with sex lives more or less as exciting as a goldfish.
lol its quite funny in fairness, but the aim is about 100 years out.
sure there are people like that, snobs and such but spend a day in Manchester or a bigger city not London basically and you'll relise brits are more passionate about pain and aggression than anywhere lol.

Exactly (what Kata said) you need to get out a little more. You think that everyone in the UK or Germany sounds the same? Or even the US for that matter? Every country has distinct regional dialects. I used to be stationed in Mannheim Germany, and I picked up a little German while I was there for two years.
Other Germans regarded the Mannheimer accent as "sloppy Deutch" much like many Americans would consider the Appalachian speak "sloppy English." Also, have you ever heard a true Co.ckney dialect? Most British would consider Co.ckney to be sloppy English, I heard it once in London and I had a very hard time understanding them. I couldn't even make out what this one feller was saying here in America. He was from western North Carolina, a true hillbilly.
Actually there are over fifty American dialects, at least thirty southern ones, I heard a guy on the radio who could do almost all of them, pretty amazing....
(Had to edit, because the filter wouldn't let me say "Co.ckney"!!!)

i'm gal cos its the closest thing to the federation in elite. i've missioned with the fed navy cos thats who i worked for. i prefer trading over mining if i have to cos thats how i saved up the cash for my imperial courier. mmm, that was a puuurty ship. and i dont care what the manual says, sheilds do protect you when you crash into other ships. put 20 of em on and u got ure self an ebil pirate ramming imp . ahh, if only i could ram the rats with my mega, i'm sure she's built for it
now if only i could get a panther clipper on some good trade routes to fund my new found pvp habit....
