Id like to present myself to this community, I came from wow, where I used to be an addict pvper (mostly arena).
I hope to find interest in EvE now the same way, I heard many good things about the game and watched couple videos, Im hyped :)
Im mostly more of a pvp guy than any other area in games, but I like to try all the things a game has to offer.
Anyway, hope to have good times with all you playing EvE out there in space.
Cheers |

Hey Cpt Swagg, nice to make your acquaintance. I am ISD Ezwal, one of the forum moderators. I have moved your thread to EvE New Citizens Q&A. Don't be alarmed, you didn't post in the wrong forum section. But NC Q&A is much, much more new player friendly then General Discussion...
And welcome to EvE!
Edit: If there is anything you want to know, here is the place to ask. I would also like to point you to New-Pilot 101. ISD Ezwal Captain Community Communication Liaisons (CCLs) Interstellar Services Department |

Welcome Cpt Swagg!. EVE is a steep learning curve but if you visit the ingame rookie chat channel you will find a lot of people who will help with any questions!.
PVP you say?. Damn pirate.. :)
Check out the Warfare & Tactics section of the forums - there are a few guides there that may be some help!. But remember you need to source your PVPing with other ISK methods. Maybe look into passive PI income?. |

Can I have...ooh wait, you are saying Hello instead of Good bye.
Welcome to EVE.
"Buckle up Dorothy, because Kansas is going bye-bye."
EVE is a great game (and I'm not saying that because I'm very biased) for PvP, as in it's core it is a PvP game. However, as you come from WoW, forget ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you learned there because 99.9% of the time EVE works differently.
Also, even if you do want to PvP, you need a way to fund that. This can be done in a 1001 different ways and you will have to find the way that suits you.
And a very quick reminder: Bigger =/= Better.
Every single ship in EVE has it's purpose and situations where it will shine. On the other hand, every single ship in EVE also has it's counter and situations where it will "shine in the form of a nice explosion in the spot that used to be occupied by your ship".

Coming from an ex gladiator, don't expect PvP in EVE to be similar to WoW. There are almost no controlled environments like arenas or battlegrounds here; the common wisdom is hat if the fight is fair then at least one side ****** up. i still remember vanilla WoW, when there was a perpetual laggy open world brawl at taren mill. this is what eve is like, except in addition to the corpse run, you also have to replace your ship.

Welcome.
Be prepared to find out a LOT of stuff on your own. The amount of hand holding in this game is virtually non-existent and that certainly is part of the charm.
The only advice I could give you is - people will tell you that you can do "anything you want". You'll hear this a lot. Like, a lot lot. While this is certainly true and, indeed you should try out to do anything and everything as much as you want, I've found it beneficial to try and focus on 1 or 2 things initially and go from there. What those things are - up to you. I chose PvP (because fudge rock collecting) and exploration and it's been quite beneficial in removing some of that "newbie fear" that EvE can give you.
The fear I talk about is just how expansive and massive the world of EvE can feel. There is no start point, no end point and certainly no defined middle. There is only you and the giant space around you, filled with evil sharks that shoot lazor beams and pick your pockets every chance they get.
Using the focus allowed at least me to think of space as a playground rather than the deep end of the pool and those sharks are more like angry kittens.. that pick your pockets every chance they get.
But welcome!
** EDIT - oh, and try to get killed in space as soon as you can. Once you've died and gotten a taste of loss early on, it won't hold you back in the future when you have more of everything and thus, more to lose ** |

Welcome!
Its great to see another player diving in. If your interested in PvP, couple of points are listed below.
1. Join a group. There is a lot to learn in EvE and joining a group will make it much much easier. Plenty of threads out there for newbie groups, but as a quick recap .. EvE University / Red vs Blue / Brave Newbies.
2. Fly cheap. Ships in EvE are like classes in other MMOs. Each has their place and their purpose. It gets even more complicated because of all the different ways you can fit those ships and the various support skills that make you more effective flying said ships. All of that combines to mean you will explode a lot as you find your way. So fly cheap as you learn.
3. Blowing up is necessary. Your going to learn something every time you fight. Fighting NPCs does not translate to PvP knowledge. There was a story I heard about a new PvPer that was given a hundred Rifters (T1 Frigates) by corp mates and told to go get them blown up learning PvP. Thats the attitude you want to have. Get out there, realize your going to blow up a lot as you learn, and realize the only way to learn is to fight. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=266074 - Sniggwaffe (Waffles)
