I have been watching some videos about data and relic sites and one thing that is fuzzy to me is what happens after it pukes out the cans of loot? No one describes this and on the videos it looks like people scramble like mad to grab them before they disappear. Are they only there for a short time? I did read that if your hacking score is not high enough they explode when you try and open them, is this what is happening? It just seems like some of them just float off and disappear. |

You have a few seconds to click on each can to automatically tractor it into your cargohold.
There are 5 variants, Data, Parts, Materials, Scraps and Equipment. If you prescanned the hacking target with a cargo scanner, you'll know which cans to aim for first. Are ponies the new rule 34 ? |

But if I am slow, the cans dont automatically explode or disappear correct? I can always fly after them right? |

They'll disappear after a few seconds, regardless of your reflexes. Thankfully, this stupid mechanic is being removed in the summer expansion, at the earliest. Are ponies the new rule 34 ? |

So the mad clickfest after the spew is required until summer.
Thanks |

Thanks Sorta.
You mouse over the can. All the cans get green halo. Meaning that they are ready to be tractored in. You click on the can, it is automatically tractored in. Meantime you mouse over to the next can, all the cans get red halo. Why? Because you are not allowed to tractor next can until the previous one received.
The strategy here is that the cans are moving away, the farther they get from you and each other, the longer it will take to tractor them in. So when cans first spew out, they are all close to each other, you click one, it is tractored in quickly, the you click next, then wait for it tractored in, then next and so on. Once cans move away from the spew point... tractoring cans will take longer... so you will wait longer before clicking on next can.
Also. If you double click on a can, your ship will automatically fly to that can.
Overall, you have something like 20 seconds or maybe 30 seconds to play "click and wait, click and wait" game of selecting cans and getting their contents. Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat dessert first! |

Just wanted to add that while you're waiting for the tractor beam to bring a spew can to your ship, you can also click on another spew can and have that one placed next in queue for the tractor beam.
Also this Hacking Mini Container Loot Distribution page is a good reference list to know which spew cans to get.
