I have an issue when I have certain objects in view in camera I get like 10-18 fps. I have tried adjusting all the available settings in the esc menu, but the difference from having all settings on lowest values to all settings on highest values is only on average like 1-4 fps. The objects are like for example, the really big asteroid formations you find in dead space encounters.
The rest of the time when I play the game I can get good fps relative to whatever display settings I am running. I have a feeling it might be do to an issue with my Intel HD 4000 graphics chip, its just a shame though because the rest of the game renders fine.
I hope this is the right forum section, I can't create new threads in other forum sections. |

Go to your Graphics Settings and look on the left side... you should see an option that says "Present Interval"... make sure it is set to "Interval one."
You can also enable Resource Cache (found on the right side) if you have a fair bit of RAM. It might help a bit. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Like I said, I have tried every single setting on that options page, none of them impacted the fps dropped caused by the camera rendering those certain objects.
I am pretty sure Interval is just Eve's version of vertical synchronization, so leaving it on immediate would give the highest average FPS. (Like I said however, I have tried every interval setting and that is not the issue. Also tried with resource cache on and off) |

The EVE client is a bit weird. Interval One usually gives the best performance and helps keep the game from having a seizure.
Outside of this, I'll defer to someone else (anyone?). I'm not too knowledgeable about the graphics stuff beyond "huh, the graphics are turning all 'pixily' and black and stuff... time to get a new GPU."
edit: generally I start getting leery about my GPU after about 2 or 3 years... especially if I have been playing a lot of games.
Have you tried taking everything apart and de-dusting it? Sometimes that helps me. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Its probably the clouds/fog/dust in the different areas, I know people had huge FPS drops with those before, I believe they made a statement about that awhile ago, I cant remember if anything was changed or if it was just plans for a change. My googlefu is failing atm and I cant find the thread with the CCP response to it, also cant find a dev blog about anything at this time. If its not the clouds/dust/fog then I really have no idea, have you tried the repair.exe in the eve folder to see if something is broken in the files themselves? |

So I just ran another mission and just noticed the gas/dust cloud around the object in question that was killing my fps. I moved the camera around and as long as a bit of that cloud effect was in view it was killing my FPS, so you were right, thank you, that is indeed the issue.
This is the latest response I can find on the issue: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=3069656#post3069656
So there is no option to turn off the effect as far as I know...which really sucks because then I am just going to have to stop playing eve. |

Mission clouds are indeed the main culprit.
They don't really occur outside missions, however, so you can just avoid missions (or even just those specific ones). https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=326497 --áPsychotic Monk for CSM! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. I did some digging and I happy to say I found the solution.
If you check out the Patch notes for Rubicon 1.1: http://community.eveonline.com/news/patch-notes/patch-notes-for-rubicon-1.1
You can see: "The GÇÿeffectGÇÖ setting will now toggle particle clouds on/off (A session change is required for this to take affect)"
Unfortunately effect also toggles other things off but its but having a client that can actually run properly is more important.
The reason I didn't figure this out before is because the tool tip for effects doesn't say anything about restarting the client, but once you toggle effects off and restart your client it actually works.
This patch is pretty new, Released on Tuesday, January 28th 2014 so it should solve the issues I saw people post about in 2012 and 2013. |

You actually didn't have to restart either.

If you are playing on a desktop, just upgrade to a decent gpu. If its a laptop - Sell it and buy a desktop, laptops are not build to be gamed with (except for gaming series, but even then...) This i know for a fact as it is my job of repairing computers and consorts. Cpu integrated GPU's suck balls.. they are only there to provide you with something to process your desktop usage.. not gaming. and the reason is simple. CPU wafer generates heat to about 40-¦C stable. Add the internal GPU (that actually is a chip inside your CPU) needing to render stuff like EVE Gasclouds will eventually result in a overheated CPU cauzing either your pc/laptop to auto shutdown and eventually make coolingpaste go solid making it nearly impossible to do anything that requieres a decent amount of cooling (as the thermal paste transfers the heat from CPU to Cooling element.
My advice as a technician.. just upgrade to a GPU if on a Desktop. If you dont want a desktop buy a gaming series laptop. They have seperate GPU chips and seperate GPU cooling. Normal laptop models that do have a nvidia or amd GPU in it will actually use the same heatsink - thus creating the exact same problem |

Mission "clouds" are known for causing FPS problems. I myself have had huge problems with them in the past, and they only went away once I upgraded to a monster CPU (funnily enough a GPU upgrade didn't help). I do, however, have a GPU hardier than an integrated Intel HD Graphics one.
Since this is a known issue, a workaround was added in the Rubicon 1.1 game update. In your graphics settings, toggle "Effects" off. That checkbox now also controls the appearance of gas clouds.
If that works and you end up subscribing, you may want to post some feedback in the Issues and Workarounds forum, documenting exactly what your system specs are and what you're having trouble with. This can help future troubleshooting by players, and future coding by devs.

I had this on my older computer. The missions that had bright sun like anomalies or gas clouds were hell.
Something I KNOW works is to zoom out the view as far as you can so that the stuff that's causing the problem is barely visible (usually pretty far). This causes the client to no longer really render the said object and fps returns to normal. I know it sucks not seeing your ship or animations due to being super zoomed out, but once you're done with it you can zoom back in, and luckly it's not every mission.
Hope this helps you. |
