Hey all,
I started playing EVE online a few months ago but never continually played it which i am hoping to change for deffinate this time as i have a lot more spare time on my hands. During my time away i always made sure that i was training the skills required to fly the exhumers (currently flying the Mackinaw) but now im stuck with what skills i should be training.
What skills should i be aiming to reach level 5 first? How would i receive maximum profit from mining in a Mackinaw? What ores are the better ones to mine in your opinion? Should i be using the mining crystals? If so tech I or II?
Also i was just wondering, due to having some spare income would it be more profitable, once i get my miner to a decent level, to invest in another account to fly an orca? If so how long would this take and how does the orca work with the boosts, do i just gain them once i can fly the orca or is there any training involved?
Thanks all :) |

1) Mining, Exhumers, Processing Skills (including ice, veld, scord, omber, pyrox first) 2) Mine Ice - preferably Ozone or Isotopes 3) low ends (veld, scord, pyrox) anything with trit, pyerite or mexallon - used more, available anywhere, can mine in safe space where most gankers don't bother you. 4) t1 mining crystals are fine, I don't bother with t2

I'm no expert but to answer your third question, the better ores to mine depends on the isk/m3 of that ore (if you are only mining for profit and not production). Take the sell price of one unit of the ore and divide it by the volume of that unit. That will give you your isk/m3. I think Scordite is the best high-sec ore right now, Jaspet is best for low-sec. There are apps and websites out there that can tell you all this. |

If you want maximum yields train t2 crystals and use a survey scanner (depends on how much attention you give it to decide if its worth it), if you're refining your own ore you're gonna need the skill anyway.
Train some pew pew skills and go shoot something too. |

I donGÇÖt know if you have noticed or read anything about it but ganking exhumers has become a new trend in the game. As a new exhumer pilot who needs experience I think you might want to change your focus from getting the most yield to surviving the long term. As an example, the other day I saw 2 11mill destroyers gank a 200mill Hulk in about 10 seconds. Mackinaws and Hulks have very small shields even when tanked.
I would recommend you start out in a Skiff and get a feel for the system you are in and get a handle on the local gankers. It seems a lot of the gankers are territorial and after a few weeks of watching untanked miners lose expensive ships you should have a good idea of who to watch out for in local.
Getting greedy and trying to squeeze out every last bit of yield can lead to a devastating loss for a new miner starting out.
P.S. Are you related to Lucas Kell? I see the family resemblance, LOL |

Ming,
Sometimes the forums are not the best place for advice. If you want advice on any eve activity you should talk to people who do it (or did it).
Sounds like your intrested in the industrial side of eve. You should talk to an industrial corporation, there are many that enjoy helping newer players. |

I sell the Kill Rights when I earn them though. Often sorts them out when bigger people kills them. :-) |

Cost of a T2 catalyst: <15m*
Cost a T2 exhumer: >200m
*Catalysts are reimbursed by James even for failed ganks
No agent is going to get killed by kill rights, and if someone does activate them it's like throwing money into the wind, as the agents are already legal to shoot. |

dont forget to train related skills- social skills for missioning to get tax-free refining (and LP for refining implants), trade skills to sell your ore/minerals, science V to get into ice mining.
and of course you need basic ship fitting skills, and should train for gallente industrial ships as well (there are ore and mineral specific haulers). shield tank is important to the procurer and skiff, and being able to fit a T2 shield tank will make you that much more survivable to mine without loss to gankers.
cybernetics will need to train to V, if you want to use the very best 4% refining implant. if you plan to refine then you will need this.
drone skills are also helpful, as the procurer works well with 5 light drones to defend against rats (or 4 light and one salvage, if you want a bit more isk). keep in mind that drone skills will change this summer as well.

-Mining laser upgrade should be a IV to get the better module. -Train for the ice mining laser and upgrades. -You can see current value of ores here: Celestre -Learn how to look for the ore anomolies -- you can find more valuable low-sec ores in these. -If you really want to max mining yield T2 crystals are worth it - if you'd rather start branching into other activites like missions, combat, exploration - then maybe not worth the training time - Refining skills are probably not worth it anymore with the coming summer changes. -An Orca is a very handy ship, but it is not going to pay off in a two man mining operation. The yield of a exhumer/orca would be a lot less than 2 exhumers. And it requires a lot of very long leadership skills. -It can be good to have both a skiff and a mackinaw and choose which one you use based on the level of gank risk you perceive in the system. |
