I'm a little confused about standing derivatives. If I complete missions for a Gallente corporation, does that mean every mission completed also grant a tiny standing increase with Minmatar Republic, and a tiny standing decrease with Amarr/Caldari?
Is this any different for Pirate Factions? If I shoot at Amarr, will Blood Raiders like me more?
What if I wanted to gain standing with Jove Corporations like Impro? Would I have to run missions for Minmatar or Sisters of EVE to get good derivative standing increases with them?
If I run missions for a corporation belonging to a faction that another faction hates, will every completed mission, regardless of having shot at any of their own, result in a standing loss with that other faction from derivatives? What if I shoot at Guristas NPCs? Will I lose standing with Sansha's Nation? Or will nothing happen?

It seems that doing anything in this game for anybody results in somebody hating me a little bit more for it

This may help:
EVE Standings The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the ho's and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down, and whisper 'Hodor'. |

There are only two kinds of missions that affect faction standing: * Storyline (offered every 16 missions of the same level). * Faction kill missions (have a faction icon in the mission briefing). If you decline these, you can't gain or lose faction.
The Blood-Stained Stars arc also allows one to raise faction standing without affecting any other faction's standing.
Example: Caldari storyline mission Caldari is +5 to Amarr derived, so for every gain with Caldari, you gain 50% of that amount with Amarr. Caldari is -5 to Gallente derived, so for every gain with Caldari, you lose 50% of that amount with Gallente. Caldari is -2 to Minmatar derived, so for every gain with Caldari, you lose 20% of that amount with Minmatar.
Beware that some published tables for standings are outdated. |

Very True
It is however worth noting that: - some "Faction Kill Missions" can be blitzed and if you kill nothing you can still do them without a penalty - however it seems that some incur a standing loss every 20 minute tick, even if you kill nothing, so be careful
If you want to play it safe decline any opposite faction kill missions, |
