I have been playing this game for almost two months really trying to like this game. I ran missions, explored wormhole space, station trading, and mining. This is what they donGÇÖt tell you - this game needs new fishies so that the bigger fish can consume you. As a new player you are constantly flying around in fear of being cannibalized by others. I could never destroy something that I know takes somebody much effort to create GÇô and for this I'm labeled despairingly as a Carebear? I can understand that you are better than me and you caught me and you destroyed my ship. However, it doesnGÇÖt stop there. Why destroy my Pod? I thought i was playing it somewhat safe running a lvl 1 mission in high sec - nope i got ganked and podded.
The worst part is that people are constantly trying to scam you - and no i havent been scammed. They say they want to help you but in the end they take advantage of you. This is completely allowed - the game developers say this is the beauty of the sandbox mode. I say it is GÇ£Lord of the FliesGÇ¥ in space. A bunch of kids on a deserted island and all hell breaks loose. I dont talk to anybody in fear that they will scam me somehow. Yes, a few good people exist but you canGÇÖt trust anybody. I live this in real life why would I want to spend my recreational time doing this?
Why should i keep playing (paying for this)? |

Because you haven't joined a Corporation yet? You are playing a mmo solo.
I think if you are running level 1 missions you haven't done all you can do in a wormhole.
I think if you are scared of the big fishes you have never flown in a frig gang.
But mainly because I think you should try joined a corp and playing with others, instead of trying to do whatever it is you've been doing alone. |

I thought about joining a corp. A lot of people keep saying "it gets better" dont quit join a corp.
But then i read the blogs and see the youtube vids about alliances fighting and this just doesnt appeal to me. I thought this was going to be a real sandbox game where you can do whatever you want. But this is not true if you have to fly/live in fear all of the time.
trolling? i dont even know what this is. Add annoying beggars to my list of things i dont like about this game. |

First: who says you can't destroy something that took someone else effort to create? Even as a newbie you have options.
Second: you WILL continue playing this game... maybe not today, or tomorrow, or for the next few months... but you WILL be back. Why will youcome back? Because no other game offers the same degree of choices and options that EVE does... and few other games give newbies as much of a chance to fight against veterans in quite the same way as EVE.
Third: Shed the "victim" mentality. Someone nuked you. Give them kudos for doing so and figure out how they did it. After all... they are subject to the same rules, mechanics, and equipment as you are... they are no more "special" than you. So go out and make your boogieman bleed!! Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

This is true sandbox game, and as players can so heavily influence what happens in it, where their choices matter, this is what it turns out to be. We are human, and human is pretty damn vicious specie when no restrictions are placed upon them. By group I did not nesseserily mean corporation. You can have friends here too without having need to carry same colors. Only fraction of my buddies actually come from my corporation.
And do not let fear get over you in here. If you are afraid of everything, you wont get forward either. Yes, anyone can attack you anywhere once you undock, but there are always measures you can take to reduce chances of getting jumped. |

The worst part of the game is being scammed? That's easy to avoid. If you never give anything to anyone they can't scam you.
I would agree with the others that posted. Playing solo is a good way to get bored quite fast. And I would guess that the videos and blogs you found only represent a small portion of different types of corporations in EVE. Sure, maybe large null sec battles that last 12 hours aren't for you. Me neither! That's why I joined a corp that operates out of wormhole space and does smaller scale combat which I find more fun. The trick is to find a corporation that does what you enjoy doing. www.ensignyooch.wordpress.com

Well.
Same age in game. Same reasons to complain. Same reasoning that you "can't do what you want" with same ****** arguments that are untrue Same entitlement that you should be able to do what you want, but the guy wanting to do what he wants - which is shoot people, is not allowed to do so, because it's not following your playstyle. Same way of writing.
Sorry, not convinced about you 1 char / 1 account statement.
Also, what did you expect of EVE.
10 years of "bad" news about scams, theft, awoxing and now apparantly tortures on the interwebs for you to find.
Not to mention that CCP's OWN New Player FAQ PDF states that EVE in it's core is a PvP game, yet you are acting surprised people can PvP...

I dont know how to prove that i have only one account and one character. If you know then tell me.
To me it is interesting to find another person playing solo, like me, for two months has come to the same crossroads.
This is not a quit post. I really wanted to know how it gets better if i keep playing. Some have suggested to find a group or join a corp. I might do that.
Thanks for the comments/advice. |

Confirming what others said, join a corp or at least be part of a community that you play with.
EVE is a MMO, which stands for Massive Multiplayer Online. It is not a singleplayer game, you will if you like it or not play with others, be it on your side or against you. So the best bet is to have people who will catch you when you fall on your side.
Most people with the issues you just listed arw the ones coming to EVE and expecting that they can play it solo in the way that they can allow interaction on their demands, that is not the case in EVE.
Simply said:
EVE is what you make of it (she can be a beautiful lover or a terrible ex wife). You can do what ever you want, but so can others. Likely their way of playing doesnt matches yours and it will create conflicts, thats the entire idea behind EVE and why CCP created the game like this. They just gave the players some tools and a playground and let them create the actual game. How much CCP owns EVE and keeps it fresh with new stuff, it is the players who make the game by the way they interact (99.9% of the stuff you will read on the internet about EVE is not created or done by CCP, its a result of interaction between the EVE players). Paranoia is good in EvE, but you are being too paranoid here. You can put a bit of trust in a corp but not all of it I know I sound like a broken record but EvE is a social game, I did a fun little experiment where I dropped corp and closed all chats to simulate being a newbie. I can safely say I've been wanting to kill myself/ or quit.
So, bite the bullet, put a bit of trust in the corp that recruits you. If you must, liquify your assets. There are bad people in EvE but in my time here, I can say that it's simply not true. |

Thanks again. Sandbox does mean that you can try and play the way you want, it also means that others can play the way that they want, sometimes that involves interfering with the way in which others play.

I posted this kind of thread several years ago and eventually left Eve for several years. My post was genuine, so maybe this guy is too.
In response: Two days ago, I took my Venture into lowsec space. I was fully expecting to get podded and was prepared for it. Got podded. Gave away the kill right. Bought a new Venture. Lost that one to pirates. Bought another one. Went to .4 yesterday to grab a research slot that only had a 10 day waiting list. Survived!
Eve requires a certain mentality that I did not have until I grew up some more. How do I put this? Eve is for men and women, not boys and girls.
Thousands of players collectively lost 11 trillion ISK in one day in January. You don't like losing your frigate to a ganker? Try losing your Titan in battle.
In all seriousness, if the game is making you feel icky, leave it for a while. It is not for everyone and from the sounds of it, it's not for you. One thing is certainly not going to happen: Eve is not going to change one tiny bit because new players get pissed of and storm out. They had to put the server at 10% time dilation for that day in January. They have enough players, really.
You know where this is going... HTFU!
There, I have now done penance for my days as a whiny Carebear.

First of all, you haven't played long enough yet to be taken seriously in Eve. You're like a 16 year old with a driver's license - now she wants to have a baby.
If you decide you know enough about eve that you deserve to be "allowed" the same benefits as everybody else - that is going to lead to the overwhelming paranoia you sound like you are starting to develop. People are going to own you. They already do. You belong to them. Do you like that? Because that's the way it is until you break free from it.
I have tried a bit of everything and learned the path of least resistance is by far the best path to take in eve. If Sendaya has approx 50 - 150 kills an hour - avoid Sendaya while flying a Transport through null sec. Although, it IS truly amazing to see how fast a PL fleet can target lock, then smoke a wreathe in as little time as it takes them. Almost worth it to try it again - because its fun. Its just a cheap transport ship. Its not a 200 million T2 transport, its a cheap T1. Its awesome watching an organized fleet kill ships, compared to the newbie fleets that freak out when you jump through their gate and then escape them.
Sounds like you do have quite a bit of stuff under your belt that you have tried, now you need to figure out what you like and don't like and then plan a way to play Eve based on that information.
I have been playing Eve for about 6 years and am just starting to figure it out. I'm not as smart as other people - I will freely admit it. However I get there, and in some cases I leave much smarter people than me far behind eating my dust.
I have never been scammed. I have been ganked successfully once while AFK in a Mackinaw. I didn't learn my lesson and next went AFK in a retriever - Concord finished the job my T2 drones started on that guy.
Anyway. Not quite sure what the OP is looking for. Eve is going to do to you what you allow it. If you want something from Eve you need to take it.

Doing absolutely nothing with a group of friends is more enjoyable than doing absolutely nothing solo. It doesn't take many friends either, but joining a larger group helps ensure that no matter when you get an EVE craving, there will be someone online to have a fun time with, and that they'll want to do the same thing(s) you do, even if it is nothing.

The issue with EVE is that there is no true solo play. You can play alone, you can never talk to anybody else in EVE...but you can never be truely SOLO.
Even players that play following the first 2 options (don't speak to people, do solo activities) will in the end have contact with other players. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy
