On the off chance any new players are reading this and wondering how they should avoid quitting EvE after two months .... join a group. Seriously, this can not be overstated enough. Do some basic research on new player friendly groups. Read up on their recruiting policies. You will be just fine. Recruiting scams happen when people don't do basic research on the group they are joining and think they have found a way to "skirt" the recruiting standards (give me some ISK and I promise you will get in .. etc). A couple general newbie groups are listed below.

OP may be gone, but I'll add a few comments for other new citizens that might be reading the thread.
It's possible to have fun playing Eve solo. I expect I'll try the corporate thing in the future, but for now, my work schedule only allows small pieces of time here and there where I can play Eve. I'm not ready for the commitment of having other players rely on me, so I play solo.
If I'm on a business trip where I don't know anyone, I'll still go out to a restaurant by myself for dinner. I enjoy being around the other people and there's always the chance you'll strike up a conversation with someone. Likewise, I enjoy being around the other players in Eve even if we're not on the same team. For example, I like to mine in the ice belts as you get to know the regulars. And I don't mind talking in local even when I'm cloaked in low-sec doing exploration.
I've been caught and blown up a few times. But I always learned something important from it, and I realized the adrenaline is kind of fun. If the attacks are too constant, then I think you either need to get more tank, or move to the next region.
Eve is a sandbox - play the way you want. Just don't begrudge the other fellow for playing the way he wants too.

This.
A perfect example of someone playing the game solo but not alone as a singleplayer game.
There are plenty of things you can do without directly playing with others / relying on other or having others rely on you. But don't put up a wall around yourself and think that nobody else is around, be social, make friends in game. You do NOT have to join a corp to have friends or company, there are plenty of public channels and communities around where you can hang out and chat to people. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

I didn't get any money either. I guess the OP didn't like the idea of a video game "owning" him.
For any new players............ I make all kinds of mistakes in eve and love it anyway. I learn more from my mistakes than I would making a guy happy once.
I fly solo in a WH with my alts and enjoy the time immensely. However it is temporary. People are catching on I am there. It is a very crowded C3 hole, with about 3-5 towers. So people are possibly starting to figure out my traffic patterns and catch my ships as I am flying around doing PI.
I fly cheap T1 transport ships, and I lose them. Its ok, I can buy another one and go back to playing. It sucks. But I deal with it.
People say I should fly a T2 Transport - because I AM in a corp, the NPC Corp. I get all kinds of good advice from them while clumsily making mistakes, but having an excellent time doing so.
I know there are better times to be had - and I am going to have those good times, because of what I am doing now and what I am learning from the mistakes I am making.
CCP can change the ships and such, but the basics HAVE to be learned, or you will repeat the same mistakes over and over again, or make one really big giant mistake and be forever mad about it.

Re: Learning some basic fundamentals in Eve.
The guy in this link below took a challenge proving that any new pilot with some decent skills can fly through null sec space. Granted the video is 2 years old........ the point is you need to learn some basic fundamentals and you can do ANYTHING in Eve, but you HAVE to learn those basic fundamentals otherwise somebody will simply "own" you in Eve.

I will never understand this probably. In all honesty; I've stopped trying.
There's all kinds of games where you keep the stuff you've collected because it cannot be destroyed. There's all kinds of games where you can be 100% safe all the time. There's all kinds of games with both these aspects. There's all kinds of games that combine this with M"M"O
Yet, EVE has to be like that as well? It has to be the same boring easy-mode game?
If you agree with me and play EVE because it is different; I salute you brothers and sisters!
If you disagree with me and want hello kitty online; I don't understand you. I've stopped trying. I don't even want to play your game. Go away. |

OP, I think you meant 'despisingly', not 'despairingly'.
You can play the safe solo game. Just don't expect other people to play it with you. So be prepared. Zappity's Adventures for a taste of lowsec. |

Just to add my 2 cents, the outlaw nature of Eve is actually what compelled me to try it in the first place. One would be surprised how people respond when you show them how much fun pvp can be.
The OP has a point on Eve being essentially a pyramid game in respects to SP. But alas not everyone sees this pyramid is as broad as it is high, and that even my 50 million SP won't do me much good all at once, but rather in 1001 arbitrary situations that might or might not happen. Imagine how good those 2 newbie frigs must feel after I shipped down to see if a Stabber could kill them before getting popped by the sentries. The higher they are, the harder they fall... |
