Recently, I moved down to Detoroid, and I've been having trouble breaking the tanks of the Angel Battleship spawns there in my Retribution. The setup I'm using eats through the Cruisers and Battlecruisers with ease, but it cannot seem to defeat the Battleships.
This is my current NPCing Retribution setup:
4x Medium Pulse Laser II (Gamma)
1x 1MN AB II
1x Small Armor Repairer II 1x Thermal Resistance Plating 1x Cap Relay I 2x Heat Sink II
My revelant Gunnery skills are: Gunnery 5 Small Energy Weapons 5 Small Pulse Lasers 3 Rapid Firing 3 Surgical Strike 4
I am continuing to improve my Gunnery skills, but what would be the best way to increase my damage output for defeating these Angel spawns?
Thanks

Im afraid angels highest resists are em and thermel, Move down to providence or catch, and i will gaurentee it will take you less then 2 minutes to eat a 500k battleship, Sorry bud, i was in the same position as you for awhile frustrated about not killing angels,
its just their em and thermel resists are to high : /...like i said, try sansha or blood raiders even. ---------------------------

Thanks for the advice...
But before I give up on the area I reside, I would like to see if there is anything I can modify to help me in my current situation. In the future, I will most likely have a jump clone in a Blood Raider or Sansha region just for NPCing, but for now, I want to know if I can defeat the rats some way.

Sorry but there's not much to do, lasers will suck against angels no matter what.
I had to change to projectile weapons because of this, I use the retribution to only rat in Sansha areas.

EDIT: Or just use a larger ship? -Wrayeth

Get your Assault ship, rapid firing, pulse specialization skills to at least level 4. Also use Multifrequency crystals instead of gamma, since multis will do more damage, if you can afford it use T2 crystals. If you are really desperate, buy 3 faction heatsinks and replace them with the T2 ones and either the cap relay or the thermal resistance plating. Reason for this, T2 heat sinks take 30 CPU whereas faction ones take 20. So you can fit 3 Heat Sinks instead of 2 if you have faction ones.

It'll take you a while to kill them. Use multifrequency crystals. Train small pulse laser specialisation skill up to 4 at least. You're probably running too low on cpu to fit anything in the remaining high slot - one option is to do away with the cap relay for anoth heatsink and rely on a NOS, but I don't think that will fit. In the end, however, they're going to prove almost impossible to kill without help.

Thank you all for the advice...
I guess I will have to move to Sansha/Blood Raider infested areas in order to NPC.
It's a shame that I can't use the Retribution's natural explosive and kinetic resistances against Angels.
If I were to move up to a bigger ship in order to 0.0 rat effectively, what would be the logical step from Assault Frigates besides HACs?

Dude... use multis. Seriously.

Yep, use multis or Conflagration S. Also for Angels you need more heatsinks. Consider using faction heatsinks (2 hs needed at least).
And like it has been said: Angels is the worst enemy you can take as their resists are maximized on EM with Thermal second. As that is your only damage type you want to look for other targets than Angels ;)

And if the retri doesn't cut it, a Zealot will. It's still not too hot but it tanks like a champ, doesn't need T2 ammo to kill the spawns and can stay out there forever. Works for me at least, even if it's not all that fast either.

Thanks I will try using Multis. The reason for the Gammas was the small damage difference and the capacitator use reduction, but I guess they just won't cut it in this situation.
As to the Zealot, I am only skilled in Frigates at the moment, and I don't have even a noticable fraction of the isk that a Zealot costs. I'm ratting in 0.0 to try to get that isk.

go after bloods
I can take any BS spawn in 0.0 (biggest I've had was a 7mill DB a few times) in my crusader... a retri should have no trouble with ANY blood spawn

So... if I'm going to move my NPCing to Blood or Sansha territory, what is the closest area to Detoroid?

Care to share you setup? :D
I tend to have an easy time taking out BCs/Cruisers(in .1 space) but those elite frigates tend to break me in my crusader >_<
Currently using: 4x dual light pulse IIs(conflag or multi) 1mn ab II, 1x Webber 1x sm rep II, 2x cap relay, 1x HS II. ................. |

*hint*
you can squeeze 2xHSII and thermal or em plate on crusader... you can break 200dps with proper skill.
also, in 0.0, you see way less friggies in the spawn. giant veldospar are you biggiest enemies.
*hint 2* if you have to have you armor rep on for more then 1 or 2 consecutive cycle, consider warping, you doing something wrong. __ Weirda Assault Ship deserve a 4th Bonus and More!

Hehe I know I can fit 2x HS II :D If I decide I need it I probablly will fit another one, just tackled a dual 650k bs spawn though and it was very very easy.
And yah I rarely have my armor rep on, sometimes though it just needs to be turned on ................. |

Make that dual 800k spawn, Although it takes a few minutes to take em down... Might need that second HS II, maybe even switch off to med pulse IIs?
*hint 3* you can fit 3 HS2s, an AB2, and 4 gatlings on a crusader while still having room for a small armor repairer 2...
wait, that's my set up, OH NOES! UNDO UNDOOOO!!!

Here's a start. Drop the Thermal Plating and put in another T2 Heatsink, and then switch to Multispec crystals. Angels do Kinetic and Explosive damage, so why bother tanking a non existant Thermal threat?

I don't think you would have enough cpu for another HS II. IMO though switch to conflag S crystals, you will be doing nearly 20-40% more dps then with gamma crystals. That 20-40% will break their tanks. ................. |
