Essentially even after renaming your character the previous name would still show in the character history.
Was wondering if this is still being discussed at all at CCP HQ? This is one of the items I've been bringing up in my CSM campaign... This isn't game breaking, and GMs change naughty names all the time. So it's doable...! Yes it is doable and also exploitable.
The lore a pilot creates should stay with that pilot and that person should have to deal with the consequences of what they built even if they are trying to sell that pilot and no one wants it because of its crappy reputation. |

One of the great things about Eve was the ability to make a name for yourself in a single universe. Allowing a name change that did not allow for easy tracking of old char names would be very bad for the game.
Can you imagine how many players would just start robbing their corp, taking the loot, buying a plex for name change and moving on to the next corp? I would guess as many as 15% of the player base would unsub as a result of untrackable name changes in the first 6 months of it going live due to the astronomical increase in corp theft and awoxing this change would promote.

I don't think anyone suggested not making name changes traceable.

I think being able to change your name is a good idea, everyone deserves a good name like Bunnie I would think anything that adds more movement of Plex on the market would benefit everyone as well. |

An alt of mine has a name in Russian and I get people trying to speak to me in Russian every single day. I'd pay a PLEX or 2 to change his name to IDON'TF*CKINGSPEAKRUSSIAN.
Before Serenity was established I rolled a character using the Achura race soon after they appeared and picked the name off a chinese name generator. Around the same time EVE was introduced in China and that new alt got tons of chat requests by chinese players throwing weird symbols at me. Aparently the name was so authentic that chinese players assumed me to be one of them. So I went to the chinese help channel and asked if someone could translate "I don't speak chinese, please visit the chinese halp chnnel" and instructions how to do that into weird symbols. Someone did, I pasted that into her bio and the messages stopped.
Of course I could only hope that no one had feed me some racial slurs in those weird symbols - but whatever the text translated to, it worked. |

Hey man let me show you word 'alt'. Have you ever wondered what these 2 empty placeholders on the right of box with your name and picture in game launcher are for? You know: you can make NEW ALT And this will be 'another' you!

This character was named after an ex of mine that had just dumped me at the time. I was planning to go pirating with her and get a laugh out of people cursing at an extension of a woman I loathed at that time. Pirating never happened due to the people I made friends with while skilling up, but in the first months the name caused some bad moments. Grown out of that by now though, but then I would have gladly changed it.

'Pak' apparently means 'uncle' in some Asian languages (I had no idea, I just rolled a name when I signed up). My first corp when i was 10 days old picked me up assuming I too originated from the Asian pacific. Funny thing is I'm Dutch. |

I didn't realise that my character's surname was also the name of a villain in a popular series of books for children.
Now I get people shouting "Expelliarmus!" at me, in the hopes of offlining my guns. |

I can dig the idea. Don't know what the actual muffinnuffin I was thinking with this name. But I can dig the idea only if previous name(s) get bracketed and listed in the character data visible for everyone in infoboxes. |

I would only change one of my alts names, he is Lombar Hissst after a char in the Mission Earth series. I have since found a name in a different book series that I think would fit him a heck of a lot better |

(and let me add that you can biomass alt when it is no more needed) I may be wrong but I donGÇÖt imagine people creating alts to do bad things and then sell the alt? I could see where constant name changes would make you harder to track and kill.
Most people looking to do harm or create a spy will do so on a totally separate account not as an alt.

Quote:Is PLEX for character rename still being discussed no... it really was never being discussed by anyone but a few players who decided they wanted to rename their characters. It's a bad idea - it will always be a bad idea no matter how many ways the idea gets tweaked. If you want a good name choose one when you create your character.. if you failed the first time either create a new character with the name you like or buy one from the bazaar. Bad decisions have consequences in EVE. -á-á- remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not-á "afk" cloaking-á-

The big problem with names still comes down to avoiding consequences, and making it a pain to know who is ******* who.
Lets assume you DO have a name history, well you were Billy-Bob from time-A to time-B, someone else was Billy-Bob from Time-c to Time-D, another person was billy-bob from E-F, everyone switchign names.
so how do you keep track of who was who when something happens that becomes relevant years later when the *exact* date is difficult?
On that note, why should anyone have to go through the trouble of looking up an entire history of names and who was named who when, when all they are trying to do is find a specific person they used to know, or any number of reasons you would have for looking for someone and only having one name.
It would be HELL. |

What they could do is have a name and an alias. By default everyone only has a name, but when someone pays for an alias it's put in their name first and their original never changing name will be put to the right in parenthesis. Like the normal name would be "IDGAD" and with an alias purchased it would likely be " Convicted pod rapist (IDGAD)" |
