My Account is not conected to Steam but many eve players use steam to conect to eve. Can I ask has this recent hacking placed eve accounts holders in any danger? |

well since they don't actually know (or are not saying) what went on during the intrusion I would suggest changing passwords on steam, eve, and any associated accounts that may use the same password and or email address.
also keep an eye on your card for funny transactions.
as far as steam says the attackers had access to email addys, hashed and salted passwords and encrypted card data
for that to be of any use it has to be cracked, so any damage may not be immediate, best to keep your eyes open and change up the PWs
The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

I think its pretty funny that theyre not even offering a trial run with a Identity Theft security company.
It was their shoddy net security that allowed "our" info to get stolen. Are they liable if people get their bank accounts stolen then? lol
I do have a technical question though, companies with forums like Steam, why do they have the forums associated with the billing? Everyone thats gotten hacked lately (Sony etc) "seems the intrusion was on the forums" then they realize they went in through the forums and got to the billing like that. Why the hell dont they have the secure info on an unrelated server? GM Homonoia: Suicide ganks are a valid and viable tactic in EVE.

Id be cautous about changing passwords at the moment though true the holes should have been closed by now, just try avoid changing passwords until you cleaned your computer off or get your isolated machine and do it there.

Because identify theft companies are ******* useless and you are better off training a canary to alert you?

Bear in mind that as long as your personal e-mail account isn't compromised there is nothing they can do even if they have your steam password, any time you or anyone else tries to log into the Steam client from an unrecognised computer you cannot get in until you retrieve a code that is e-mailed to you.
If you didn't have Steam guard turned on or somehow your e-mail account is compromised you could have a problem, Valve would (should) have mentioned if the Steam guard service was compromised as well so it should be working as intended. |
