Sooo yeah...
How does the "Beagle" or Blaster Eagle stand up to the likes of a Muninn/Vagabond/Thorax/Zealot?
Is this just an after thought to the Eagle being a great fleet anti-support sniper, or is it viable?

Edited by: Waxau on 09/05/2006 20:22:03 it can mainly be limited down to
Beagle = Tank Eagle = Gank
Ofcourse its not always true, but it tends to be often. Beagle is useful in solo as you can stop your target from warping, but sniping is better vs ceptors, frigs, af, covert and stealth bombers. Also sniping is less risky. And you can pirate with it too as you can snipe at 200+ km.
It wouldnt be able to stand up to a vagabond tbh - vaga would warp if long range, and would pwn you close. Muninn - not tried. Thorax - i took out a thorax the other day with beagle setup...and it fell fast. the guy was rather noobish, but still i didnt get past 90% shields and i didnt recharge once. And zealot = pwnage...you'd die too fast, as em is caldari weakness, and zealot has quite nice speed.
i tend to stick with sniper setup, but sods law is that whenever youre in a beagle setup, frigs will be spying at 150 km, and ya cant hit em...then when ya change, they get under ure feet at 500 m. happened ooooo so many times...
btw - would be a close fight with a deimos. both do the same damage, but eagle does the damage the deimos is least resistant to armor wise....and the opposite for the eagle(shield). But deimos is a homegrown blasterboat...so depends on situation img405.imageshack.us/img405/2200/waxnew0up.jpg[/img]

Actually a Beagle would work well, you can have an uber tank, then fit gank in lows :) Only problem is you'll probably be limited to just a 20km and maybe even base speed if you dont want to sacrifice too much of your tank

well eagles get range bonus on their med hybrids so a vaga unless fitted with artillery or using lead ammo shouldn't be out of range of his guns

They do. 75% of the vagas I've been killed by have used arty. ----

Edited by: Cheechako on 10/05/2006 02:38:48 Edited by: Cheechako on 10/05/2006 02:37:16 With Null ammo, I can get some hits out to 18ish km. If I happen to be running two T2 Heavies, thats a little more DPS as well... and I can select the dmg on it.
The one time I dueled a vaga, I won. Of course, if it was able to keep its range just right, it might be able to get me, but I should be able to close enough to get hits in with my blasters while my missiles hit(this is assuming 20km scrambs). If the Vaga is using arty and longish range, I'd hope to warp away.
As for a zealot, well with 1 EM hardener, I have fairly decent EM and therm resists, and I'd hope to close enough to start nosing if I'm running my blaster/nos combo. Haven't tested this though

I killed BoB Vagabond in Beagle once (BoB aren't noobs, all t2 stuff)
Eagle has very high resist for explosive and thermal damage, that makes it very good against tech 2 AC ammo or Fusion. EMP is best against Eagle but still can take it well
Eagle's main damage type is kinetic and thermal which is pretty good against Vagabond.
Both Beagle and Vagabond can fight outside web range with good damage output.
Vagabond is much faster than Beagle, so Vagabond can always run away to avoid death. Other than that, Beagle has pretty good chance of beating Vagabonds

I'm not trying to sound loyal or anything here, but truth is, Beagle will win probably 70% of the close range engagements it faces. 4 t2 Neutrons and 2 assaults equal nearly as much dmg as 5 ions on a demeos, but it has much better range (20km or so with iron and maxed skills).
Not to mention, it's supprise element. An AB, 90% web, and a good active tank give it soo much advantage over other ships it's kinda scary.
I Know i've rapped several Vaga's in one and probably could take down a demios as well.
Only hac that gives me any problems in a well fitted cerberus for the simple and same reason that a raven will kick a mega's ass.... it just does.
It just takes guts to fly a Beagle.

... 'good active tank' in two slots? ^^;
of course the base resists are nice and help a lot there, just... dunno, feels like not quite there.

as for the vagabond stuff... it *is* much more difficult to break a decent (i.e. resists and HP) shield tank then a "Good" armor tank in minmatar ship. as posted though - most vagabond could get away if they realize they not getting the job done.
problem (for vagabond) with beagle - is there is good chance you may choose to charge the target (expecting sniping setup) and get all the way under his web/etc. sure you can say 'noob' or whatever, but it happens.
for example - weirda charged enyo once in claw (to 500m orbit) figure 'he wont hit'. ****** had blasters and (seemed like) dual web. magically (by grace of matar) he ran out of cap when weirda had about 20% struct left and he died. BUT - that was pure luck... if you going after enyo with claw, you are gonna charge it as first reaction... and weirda would likely charge eagle too... (and harpy... etc etc...) __ Weirda Assault Ship deserve a 4th Bonus and More!

A well setup Beagle with two nos in the highs does very well against close range HACs like zealots and deimos, mianly because they cant fit an injector and just before your shield runs out of HP they run out of cap, and its an easy win from there.
Flying a Beagle be warey of: Cerbs, Sacrlage(suckralage), ishtar and most BS.
Im not willing to share my beagle setup, because its that good im afraid
Nothing like a beating a 180m ship with a 100 mil, although its best to spent the spare isk on nice faction mods you may find youself spending as much as a cerb anyway Definitly a fun ship to fly.

i run 4 pulse tech 2 and one diminishing nos on the zealot, so unless you have more then one nos it wont do much. i get 9.16 x mod on the pulse and they shoot at 2.2 seconds, optimal at 18km with ultraviolet, 12km with multi. lowest resistance is em at 75% which you wont be hitting anyways. and it move at 561 m/s
what is your range with blasters cause unless you hit at 18km plus i shouldn't have any problems keeping a beagle at 20km scramble range and ripping that tank appart

deimos is least resistant to explosive i.e. not blasters... also, a deimos savagely outdamages a beagle.
all in all, that whole sentance is rubbish.

What i was saying was that kinetic and thermal are more effective vs armor, than shields. Therefore the eagle has the advantage img405.imageshack.us/img405/2200/waxnew0up.jpg[/img]

I know a blaster eagle is easily killed with a zealot packing quad light beams ii, and also the deimos is very killable with these guns, even in the deimos' optimal.
also, my setup includes a injector. so the point about the zealot running out of cap wont happen. 1600mm plate is nice too =)
