Suggestion: Add INDUCED HEAT as a weapon type. Create some highslot weapon that induces heat in a rack on the target ship - the rack targeted should be scriptable (high, medium, low)
Not a huge amount of heat that burns a rack out in a few seconds, but enough that it makes the outcomes of overheating more variable. Heat induced shouldn't stack if multiple people apply it (apart from allowing multiple racks to be heated). Shouldn't take a turret slot (its a 'utility high') - it should be unappealing to fit one instead of a gun, but should be viable instead of a neut or nos - I would imagine similar fitting requirements.
Why? Adds another weapon system. Adds a possible counter to "overheated web/point" or similar.
I realize overheating and managing heat successfully is a thing good pilots do well - and the difference between winner and looser often comes down to heat management - and therefore this might be too disruptive. So I'm not sold on it, just thought I'd throw it out there as an idea.

so, minimum 2-3 ships per gang with a whole high-rack full of these, so that they can just burn out the tank AND weapons of an enemy.
This is better than neuts, because before the neuts go into full effect, they can still voerheat and fight back, but with these, if they overheat, they may as well self-destruct because everything will shut down, worse than neuts because once your shut down with these there is NO WAY TO SURVIVE or re/dis-engage.
would be horribly OP if used in mass, and completely useless if NOT used in mass, so it would only be used in 1 way, adn that would be the way that gets it nerfed ahrd enough its NEVER used.
plus, could you imagine just random frigs/interceptors justflyign aroudn burning out battleship/apital mods, utterly screwing them. |

This is why we can't have nice things. People say eve is getting stale and then dogpile every thread in F&I.
Honestly if CCP did something nuts like let caps into high-sec or something, that would be the most interesting thing seen in years. |

Only if you believe that scientific hogwash about "photons". Everyone knows that heat is really just demons escaping the underworld Things are only impossible until they are not. |

Photon torpedoes are a lie ? Say it isn't so O_O
On topic, given the current game mechanics, this new module would either be so strong its usage would be ubiquitous or so weak that no one would use it.

So the only objection is its hard to balance?
IF it could be balanced well, do you think it adds anything interesting to the game? |

I don't think it's hard to balance, but the issue is that the power of this module would increase the longer a fight goes on. In a quick brawl, you'd maybe be able to prevent your opponent from overheating his ewar to catch you or his guns to pass through your active tank, but in a long fight, you'd be able to burn all of his modules, which is basically equivalent to destroying his ship. You need to come up with a way to prevent that. The module could use charges like cap boosters, so you'd eventually run out, or the module could generate heat itself while active, but that'd be pretty stupid I guess :). |

How do you balance something that is literally impossible to tank, no matter what you may try to do? Are you going to add in more and more game mechanics in a futile attempt to rescue your initial flawed idea? |
