Which would better fit the role to hunt bc and bs spawn in low sec and 0.0?

Probably an AF as the cruiser's sig radius makes it take alot of damage. But that means you generally need to fit short range guns on your AF so you can break BS spawns which makes you vulnerable to Interceptors...

you lose cruisers by the dozen whereas af or inty will be fine just keepin transversal up
i sometimes even use t1 frigs for this but its riskier
can you put a price on peace?

Cruisers. Small ships take far too long to kill BS, and if you aren't Amarr or at least able to use lasers, ammo is a massive concern. Cruisers flown properly will rarely be hit by a BS, and will take them down much faster. When I go BS hunting in a cruiser, I use a Rupture. The setup is probably in the sticky.

AFs are generally better for PvE.

Would it be worth it to train a few Amarr ships just to rat with?

The proper racial AF will work better than a cruiser ever will. ----

hardly. afs do ****tons more damage then a caracal and have better tanks. You cant do deadspace missions (lv 3) in a caracal. ---------------------------

Edited by: Delnus on 11/05/2006 09:18:55 AF > Cruiser for 0.0 PvE. The AF takes longer to get tehre, and may do less damage, however it has a MUCH smaller sig radius, and a good bit more resistances. I've tried in a Thorax, and it was taken down fairly quickly by 0.0 BS small. In an Enyo/Iskur/Harpy/Hawk (the only ones I've tried in 0.0) I do fairly well. It takes about 7min in an Enyo to kill a BS (4 T2 Small Neutrons, full skills, and two T2 damage mods) which is a clip, and a half. The Harpy should be able to do asmall bit better, but I don't know.
All four of the AFs I have tried in 0.0 PvE could easly tank with a single small repper.
On that note, I've got a friend who is fairly new (second, or third month ingame) his Caracal cannot beat the tank of the BS 800k spawn, where as an Enyo can beat the tank of a 1.5mil (higher likely). His Caracal could tank for a while, but not long enough to get threw his tank using the optimal missile type.

Hrm. I kill 800k bs's in my caracal. takes a bit longer than 7min, more like 10 or so, but I'm using T1 missiles, not T2 weapons. I also doubt I could kill more than an 800k or so. (I'm anxiously training up Mech V to get my assault frig :) ). I use a sensor booster for my tank (although obviously it's not *all* there is). 90-100km or so, and the NPC BS lands maybe one shot on me. Some say it's a wasted slot, but it's worked out pretty damn nice for me so far.

Cruisers get hit more but they can take alot more punishment and kill the spawns alot faster.
My profit almost doubled when I swapped from af to cruiser.

If you're fighting Guristas I'd go AF for sig radius + incoming torps/cruise reasons. -= Save the Gila! Fix its grid and cpu! =-

I've been using an Enyo against Guristas BS in 0.0. Their Torps have been doing about 6.0 damage :)
I had to fit T2 Neutron blasters to break the tank though, t2 rails just weren't good enough.

AFs certainly cannot get close to the damage output of a Caracal, nor do their tanks even come close. And yes you can do level 3s in a Caracal.
However, there is one major difference between PvE and PvP that makes AFs better in missions: you can predict what damage types the enemies are using. Thus, the AF's tank becomes massively better than that of a cruiser, especially after you include its lower sig radius, in level 3 missions.

You stick Dmg mods on a Caracal and T2 heavy launchers and you will outdamage a harpy vs cruiser or larger.
Hell my Ferox outdamages a Harpy with 2 T2 BCUs and 5 t2 heavies, and he doesn't get missile bonuses.
5x t2 heavy launcher with 7ish sec rof and 250+dmg heavy missiles and 100km range >>>> 4x 150 or 125mm rails with AM.
