I look forward to the answers provided by the old vets to your question.
Every single bitter vet started out as a new player at some point. Some did when CCP didn't care much about offering a helping hand to new players.
I started out with 5000 isk, no tutorial, no free frigates given to me during one, or free money, or free items or whatever. Getting to your first million took a lot of work, whereas now you're given it on a silver platter. Even better, there was no concord or even gate guns in the early days, making ganking as easy as it is in low or nullsec today with virtually no consequences. Getting minerals for your stuff? Loot was worthless, there were no level 4 missions and no mining barges - People mined in cruisers and battleships which had no bonus to mining at all. The market was a mess with a lot of stuff still NPC seeded.
Even the smart people who figured out the worthwhile activities had trouble making them actually work. People didn't come together to wage wars and have gudfights, they came together by necessity since playing the game solo at that point was virtually impossible. Having to spend 1.5m on making a corp was a big group effort.
There were no alliances. No tech 2. No POS. No PI. No FW. The highest bounty on any belt rat you could find was 50k isk, missions were basically non existent.
We've already been newbies. We worked hard to get out of that when the game was as buggy as an overpopulated anthill with a lot less features, and options to make a bit of isk. When learning skills were still around, no attribute remaps, no implants, so skilling was slow as hell.
New players nowadays have no clue how good they have it. The statement you make doesn't make any sense unless you have not even tried to understand the perspective of those bitter vets.
Let alone that wiping out 10 years of playtime just to please newbies who don't understand the game is a bit too much to ask...
Come back to me in 10 years and let me know if you wouldn't mind losing all that time and effort. I will still be here by that time but i have a vague impression you may leave this game before the end of the year.
Oh, and i wouldn't quit. I'd just do everything i did all over again because dammit, i had fun doing it.
If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all... |

I'm not an old vet but if I were to start over I would:
start 15 accounts at the same time Learn to ISbox them effectively using ventures to mine while skilling them for procurers After skilling for procurers I would go pure minmatar so when not mining I could go down the following progression: 15 Thrashers 15 Ruptures 15 Tornado's 15 Nags BLFOX is currently recruiting |

I biomassed my old toon in rage over the whole 'greed is good' memo.
I planned to stay away for ever. CCP is exceptionally lucky that they don't have strong competition for the whole sci fi mmo market place. I resisted it as long as I could, but New Eden called me back.
Strange thing though, new eden molds you into a certain type of individual. You might start off as a trader, miner, industrialist but it wont be long before you start training those combat skills, as you'll feel the need to use them. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

I start over just about once every year.
I use the isk from selling "me" to start a new "me" and play for plex.
I enjoy it a lot. You can make a playable character inside 2 months easily.
Fresh starts are good fun.
Ive often wondered if a hardcore character mode where you are biomassed if you get podded would be fun ? 'Time is to eternity, as the mind is to what surrounds us.' |

Why? We have been through it. Back in 2006 where I started, there were already vets and new people were making the exact same posts as this one. If the approximately 5000 euro I haver spend on 3 accounts over the years were to be wasted I would definately leave. On the other hand I have enjoyed my journey here, but the journey is done and now I dont need low skills to learn the game again. Would rather spend my energy getting even further.
In other games you also unlock stuff by playing. Would you play a game if you get reset to tutorial every few months? I wouldnt! |

The 5000 euros you spent would only be "wasted" if you didn't enjoy the time you were experiencing while spending that 5000 euro.
What is suppose to be the focal point? The destination? Or the trip?
If the justification is the "destination", and not the trip, then 8 years of investment for the game to finally become "worth" it, IMO, is too long of an investment to make on a game that's already 10 years old, and might possibly not exist in 8 more.
If EvE is how you describe it, a game that is not worth it until you've reached the product of 8 years investment, that's a mighty high asking price to ask for someone who's looking for an opportunity to have fun now.
Now of course, if you did enjoy your 8 years spent while spending 5000 Euros, then what's the reason for feeling as though you've been cheated? You enjoyed your time. Wasn't the enjoyment you derived in the past the "worth" of it? Wouldn't starting over with everyone else in a server wipe give you an opportunity to experience another 8 years of worth, going through it together?
Or are you more concerned with maintaining your advantage, than you are with having a good time? Proof of lying in thread.

Wouldn't have cross trained as much as I did. Woulda stayed gallente and bum rushed to the path of ishtars while making sure my core skills got where they needed to be. Would hop into a thron for L4 grindage while derping around with a vexor or algos for pew til I could properly fit and fly proteus.
Then I'd be a tool and train to an Archon because **** logic, it's prettier than the Thanatos.

Well, Factional warfare wasn't around when I started playing, so the first thing I'd change would be to get involved in FW straight away. Lose frigs, make isk, work my way back to where I was in terms of SP. As soon as I had the SP to do scanning and T3 stuff decently again, I'd go back to wormholes instead of faffing about in empire and nullsec like I did before. Other than that...not much in terms of "big picture" I'd change, really. Mostly it would just be correcting all the inefficient stuff I did because I was new and didn't know the mechanics all that well. "EVE is a dark and harsh world, you're supposed to feel a bit worried and slightly angry when you log in, you're not supposed to feel like you're logging in to a happy, happy, fluffy, fluffy lala land filled with fun and adventures, that's what hello kitty online is for." -CCP Wrangler |

5 years come May, so not sure I count as a Vet just yet
I wouldn't do a huge amount differently. I got picked up by some really nice guys early on that didn't quite share my desire to see things blow up. That slowed me down quite a bit.
I suppose my main flaw was not finding the right corp to sit within, in the right timezone, quickly enough.
Eve was my first MMO though and I had no idea what gaming with other people was like.
I look back on some of the things I have done and I cringe inside. So yeah - to answer the question - starting again would be annoying from a time investment side but the social thing would be pretty different. Aaaaaaand relax. |
