I've tried out the serpentis watch and vigil in my myrmidon with little success. My myrmidon skills are quite high so I don't think there is a problem there. The watch especially has far too many rats for my shield tank. I use rails and t2 hobgoblins and t2 hammerheads. What ships do you use/recommend to solo the watch and vigil sites?

Myrmidon for serp watch. Also myrm has 100 bandwidth, which means you can't get close to its maximum firepower without using heavies or sentries. meds only need 50 for a full flight. ie I doubt your skills are fully there for the myrm.
set it up at ~55km from the trigger stargate. Shoot stuff until the commander group spawns, shoot the commander group, shoot anything that is irritating with damps, shoot the faction rat, burn over to the faction rat and loot. It should not pop whilst moving, and starting far away should keep the dps down against you until its time to burn to the rat. The rat will come to you quick anyway.
[myrm - basic] 5x 200mm prototype gauss gun (navy iron, navy thorium, navy antimatter)
1x 10mn afterburner II 2x omnidirectional tracking link II (both scripts) 2x cap recharger II
1x medium armor repairer II 1x kinetic hardener II 1x thermic hardener II 1x damage control II 2x drone damage amplifier II
2x medium auxiliary nanopump I 1x capacitor control circuit I
4x garde II 5x hammerhead II 5x hobgoblin II
you can bring mobile depot, wardens, DLA and more tank pieces if you want to adjust it for different tasks or just start from further back, and you can use the meds once stuff gets under the sentries or you want to move.
its cap stable with ab+tank, or tank+guns, its not cap stable perma running everything, and I put a dc on there to make it more forgiving. |

Serpentis Silver and Gold Tags to skip the first room entirely. Golds are a bit expensive though, but I usually had at least one on me all the time, just in case I come across a Vigil that has been failed before, leaving it with a locked gate. In the second room do the bare minimum to complete the site, then bookmark the faction wreck and leave. Come back after the site has de-spawned. There is some local chatter usually, read that for hints at what to shoot. More Details on the Wiki.
That said, my way of running the Serp watch was doing a wide half loop in a afterburning cruiser, aggroing the triggers for the gate keeper to spawn. I timed it so , that once the gate keeper was down, I would be in activation range of the gate and fully aligned.
In the second room, this is true for all watches, make sure to get clear of the asteroid objects near the warp in. Align and snipe. |

The fit I have been using is....
5x 200mm railguns II spike and javelin
Medium shield extender II Thermic dissipation amplifier II Kinetic deflection amplifier II 10mn afterburner II Omnidirectional tracking link I
Damage control II Magnetic field stabilizer II x2 Drone damage amplifier II x2 Armor repairer II
Medium anti-thermic screen Medium anti-kinetic screen Medium semiconductor memory cell
10x hobgoblins II 5x hammerheads II 4x ogre I
The thing with the watch is that I warp in almost hitting the rats I'm so close so by the time I turn around and try to get some distance they've already attacked, and there's to many to handle so close at the same time. Expand my brain learning juice! |

The armor repairer doesn't do you any good, sell it. If you are going for a passive shield tank, something like this will have more than three times the defence. I tried to minimize rig loss here.

Will definitely give this a try, that shield tank might be just what I need! Also do you think an ishkur with garde drones would be able to run a watch or vigil? Expand my brain learning juice! |

Ishkur is also possible, just takes a lot longer.
At first I was armor tanking when I first got my Ishtar, then tried out a fit posted by Jester and made some changes to it for my needs. http://jestertrek.blogspot.com/2013/09/fit-of-week-odyssey-ishtars.html
I have three groups of drones; Navy Gardes and Wardens, and a set of Navy Ogres. The Ogres tear through frigates with ease, if needed, or work well if you are orbiting a battleship. Otherwise just set up your optimal distance with longest sentries you use, swap out for shorter range as needed.
