HI All,
I've been playing EVE for a while now, with my first toon as a miner. I lost the will to live with mining, so created a new toon (this one) to do PVP and mission running. This toon is about 200K skill points in and able to do L2 SOE missions. I'm finding that a lot of the rats that are in the missions are able to tank both of my ships that I fly, that being a cruiser and a destroyer. These are the fits that I use:-
Rupture 4x650mm Medium 'Scout' Artillery 1 - using faction ammo
Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Medium C5-L Emergency Shield Overload 1] 10MN Afterburner 1 Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
2xCounterbalanced Weaon Mounts 1 2xFourier Transform Tracking Program Local Power Plant Manger: Reaction Control 1
Thrasher 7x250mm Light 'Scout' Artillery 1 - using faction ammo
1MN Afterburner 1 2xRebulic Fleet Small Shield Extender
Counterbalanced Weaon Mounts 1 Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay 1
I try to keep the rats at about 25km for the Thrasher and about 30km for the Rupture. I have tried using auto cannons but the rats still tank it. Is there a problem with my fitting, or am I just don;t have the skills yet to be running L2's? Any and all advice would be great. Thanks in advance. |

At the begining every skill you do will throw you up a notch. I would say you prob jumped into a cruiser a little early, you need a few more core skills that will just help out generally.
Weapon upgrades 4 to get T2 Gyro's and help with fitting. Cap skills, fitting skills, all increadably useful.
On your thrasher, a single medium shield extender will give you more shields than both of those smalls combined, you should be able to fit 2 mediums. Also dont forget Rigs, they can help a lot and you only need a few lv1 skills and jurry rigging 3.
[Thrasher, New Setup 1] Power Diagnostic System II Gyrostabilizer II
1MN Afterburner II Medium Shield Extender II Medium Shield Extender II
200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S [empty high slot]
Small Core Defense Field Extender I Small Core Defense Field Extender I Small Core Defense Field Extender I
There are a lot of T2 mods on here but you can swap them for best named where needed. With good fiiting skills you can get a second dmg mod on instead of the PDS With this fit you should have a strong passive shield reacharge against minmatar rats (exp/kin dmg) for Lv2 missions.

Isn't the faction ammo costing you way more than the payout? |

Half a million's worth will usually get me through about 10 missions, it pays for itself really. |

Thats copypaste from the eve uni wiki and is great for l2s, swap the T2 stuff to meta3/4 and you will be rocking, can skip the missile too.

Faction ammo is very isk efficient on arties, especially mediums. Might want to split the guns though and see if you can pop frigs with just 2 guns |

My Rupture flew in Minmatar space, so the results may be slightly different than flying SOE missions.
I used a rapid light missile launcher in the 5th hi slot.
1 Adaptive Invul I in one of the mid slots
3 Gyrostabilizer I and 1 Damage Control I in the lows.
The missile launcher and the drones were to combat the frigs that would get under the arti range.
Could it be that the rats weren't tanking your damage so much as getting under the arti range? I certainly experienced that difficulty early on when starting out in L2 missions.

They were a goo 20km out, I managed to get through there shields but every time I hit there armor, there would repair before I got the next salvo off. |

What you can do is perhaps spend like 3 days and train light missiles, some support skills and grab a talwar (or train caldari destroyers for a corax) and use light missiles to run missions until your skills catch up (at around 2mill SP). Perhaps even rapid lights on a cruiser hull like a Belicose or again Caracal for caldari. Lights/rapid lights have a much easier time dealing with frigs, especially elite frigs.
Also train up drones as those will be your primary tool to deal with frigs, just keep an eye on their health.
If you want to stick with guns rather than missiles then you will probably want to stick to ACs when you go to a huricane for Lv3 missions as that has much higher DPS and applied damage. Use a AB/MWD to get in range and train to use 5 drones. |

Another thing is that if they can tank the fits as they are run, you may want to train more into fitting/weapon upgrades and then go to the larger size of gun in artillery, 720mm and 280mm respectively. The larger size has higher DPS, much more alpha and longer range, in exchange for lower ROF, which still makes it more isk efficient to run faction ammo. Also, gunnery support skills will help immensely with getting the tank down on those ships. That crazy bag FC with the silly things on the hull that shouldn't but just did. |
