Hi there,
I have recently been advised that even as an industrialist I should seriously consider doing combat skill training for grinding standings and also protecting myself for when the **** hits the fan.
I am a new player though so I really have no idea what ship I should train for and what supporting skills I should train. All that I have been able to figure out is that I should be able to fit a T2 tank and T2 weapons. I am at a loss regarding what ship I should train for but I will figure that out in time.
My question is what supporting skills should I train, and to what level to support a level 4 mission ship? |

depends what u want to do,
ultima ratio right now for l4 are marauders. i personally like the golem for its damage selection. But missiles arent the best choice if u want to pvp. So Vargur would be my 2nd choice for l4 mission running, but the smaller minni hulls need alot of dual training as they r shield and armor and missiles and projectiles and drones. So next would be Kronos. Gallente need normaly only armor, hybrids and drones.
Now if u go with the Gallente ship line. Skills u wanna max is pg, cpu and cap skills, Weapon Upgrades and Advanced Weapon Upgrades. Drone Skills to max and support skills to 4 for everything up to heavies and sentries. Gunnery Skills to max and support to 4 atleast. Long Range targeting and target management so far as u can lock all targets of the ship with the most locks available.
Im sure ive forgotten alot of stuff and its just my opinion on the marauder hulls. |

Initially stick to working up to the base tech 1 hulls like raven or dominix etc
Concentrate on the relevant skills in the engineering, navigation and targeting groups (these are the important skill groups, ship-command is low priority skill group) weapon & tank choices will depend on ship choice so raven will be shields & missiles, dominix will be armour, drones & gunnery
when you have the skills trained to fit a BS with all T2 mods, then your at the right stage to look at switching up to a T2 hull and not have it turned into an expensive loss mail

Why L4 for standings?
1. you can "hire" standings service from people without training any skills. 2. You can run loads of L2s in destroyer\cruiser blitzing them faster then L4s and will require less skills. 3. you can run mining missions or "Hauling" missions. Hauling missions might actually be more beneficial for you as you might need those hauling skills in your indy career.
TL;DR Combat missions sucks badly, are more boring then mining and require loads of skill you will never need if u are indy player. I was doing hauling/distribution missions but was told that I was doing it wrong.

Basically the time it will take you to run 1 L4 u can do over 3-4 L2s for faster standings.
Also why train combat skills if u don't need them? "What's worse than a foul-mouthed eight-year-old constantly claiming he's had relations with your mother? There are no fans in space. If you cant or don't want to fight, you dock-up in station. If you then cant get out of station, you play on an alt.
Personally, I wouldn't spend the time training both combat pilot and industrialist on the same character, especially early on. It's just that the SP would take a very long time to accumulate so as to be effective for both career paths. So I always 'advise' focusing on either one or the other for the first 10M SP at least. I'm not very savvy on the dedicated industrial path, but for the dedicated combat pilot, around 10M is a good point to pick up decent salvaging, refining, hauling and marketing skills. For the industrialist, combat drone skills and such.
Standings you can get with industrialist missions. If you are just itching to do something else, an excuse for combat, maybe start an alt and specialize in frigs (6-10M SP)? Or even on your industrialist character there at some point.Takes far less time to train compared to a BS. If you train up AF you can easily do lvl3's and some lvl4's, eventually, plus pvp. Cruiser training takes a little longer, but a good ideal if doing such missions in more hostile space as a BS can be seen more as an Ice Cream Truck traveling through lowsec and such.
Usually industrialist = multiple accounts. So you either operate a fleet of industrialists, or train a combat pilot support/escort character. But not a requirement, just seems more common. But as a newbie I wouldn't suggest opening multiple accounts, not until you gain more vet status and are more certain you may stick around the game. By then you will better know what you want to do and how to get there. GÇö+¬GÇö |

L3 security missions are the best way to get corp-to-player standings up. You can do this yourself or outsource it. A low skilled BC can handle it. (L4 are better at making credits but worse on the standings per hour played metric.)
Faction-to-player standings matter too and these are best done by doing Factional Warfare and COSMOS missions. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=326497 --áPsychotic Monk for CSM! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. Distribution missions for standings are fine, especially as you can do them semi-AFK while fine-tuning your spreadsheets.
If you still want to have some combat skills (for a change of pace, or in case you get a security storyline mission), go for drone boats. Why? Because you should have a Mem/Int remapping for all those Industry skills, which will also help you train drone skills pretty quickly. Which mostly means Gallente ships. |
