WoD MMO was aimed at WoD fans and sure, why not, vampire enthusiasts, but vampires weren't particularly cool back in 2008. So no, it wasn't started with Twilight fanbase in mind. I think it was more of a response to VtM: Bloodlines and its cult status as THE vampire game of recent times. |

Sucks for those who lost their jobs. WoD and White Wolf in general predated Twilight you know. By a decade I think I know one teenager who's deep into WoD and White Wolf.
Hmm, wait, it's 2014, he's turning 33 soon ...
I hope CCP can salvage the most of the talent and the IP, or eldest will blame me for killing it off :(

So CCP are responsible for something White Wolf did eight years before they bought the company? Youre talking Revised edition right? Not the 20th anniversary edition in 2011?
Being that the revised edition came out in 1998 and CCP didnt buy them until 2006 PSYCHOTIC MONK (or Erotica1's next alt) for CSM. I know it won't all fit, but it'd be nice to see some formal items for avatar portraits. And it'd be a nice compromise and a way to recoup some losses (possibly). If they'd started any work on hunters or technocracy or any of the other high-tech cyberpunk factions of WoD, those assets could probably just be applied directly over into Eve.

Maybe CCP could start a Kickstarter campaign if this is such a "popular" genre to dabble in.

ROFL Image they kickstarted WoD and got 40 mil :P Also AFTER CCP bought White wolf, WW had a announcement on the main page about bringing the game back to its first/second ed roots and making it up to the fans. but then it vanished and out only came the new V:TM book. Kicking the M:TA/W:TA and other players to the side line. Yes, I know v:TM was its flagship. |

DUST, I don't like you.. None of the people I know like you either.. I believe if CCP actually scrapped the idea of an outdated console game and put their effort into making WOD, they would have made much more money off of WOD MMO... Too bad.. It's a sad day both for fans and employees... Now you can make your 16 y.o audience happier with your crappy console game: DUST 514...
Yeah bro I'm mad.. I've been waiting for this game since 2006... So hell yeah I'm mad... All those promises... But who cares.. it's all about dollars isn't it..
But no, I'm not gonna throw stupid threats like : Bro I'm unsubbing.. etc.. I love EVE. Besides nobody would give a flying &@$! about it.
Anyways.. what about a kickstarter maybe? The amount of people who are willing to donate this game is enormous. Hell I've been throwing money at my monitor for 8 damn years, yet nothing happened.. http://www.minerbumping.com/p/the-code.html |

I have been expecting this for some time. I also why I never expect to see walking in stations unless they replace the engine they are using for character animation. We have never seen a working demo of the tech with lots of characters in the same scene. I don't believe it will scale and that is why think it died. Too much effort into making it pretty and not enough into making it workable. You can have all the dynamic hair and cloth in the world but if it maxes out most machines in a single character captain's coffin it certainly won't work when you have your 100 corp mates wondering around in a ship gallery.
Serious props for CCP taking that challenge, even if it was a bridge too far. I can only hope what you've learned will lead to great things later. Also my thoughts are with all the folks who have been affected by the cuts. |

Sitting here, reading up on this before I actually comment.
It sucks that CCP falcon is getting all this grief, but, "Welcome to Management"
I feel for the Atlanta employees here. It's a risk when working in this field. Most of them are smart and seen the boat sinking along time ago and make appropriate decisions.
This really isn't a shock to be honest. 8 years in development in the MMO market?! Whoever thought WoD would actually be released, I have a bridge to sell you in New York!
At least Dust wasn't a COMPLETE failure! Hopefully Valkyrie actually comes out for Facebook.
I'm very curious about FF this year and see what the next sinking ship will be!!! New player experience, more highsec PvE missions, casual play, balance, counters to AFK cloaking, expanding the NEX store, and Power Projection.

The only reason why it was introduced was to share development between EvE and WoD.
The somewhat less then stellar functionality of CQ moved it to WoD-only until further notice.
And CCPs latest economic statement basicly said that WoD was dead.
I'll stick to my hope that CCP can salvage as much of the talent and the IP they can.

It did little to stop the rumors building among outsiders - it did nothing to stop the rumors among the employees and their families, since the writing was pretty clearly on the wall - and only added uncertainty and false hope into our already pretty terrible weekends. The leak sucked for you guys, but this was not the way to damage control. It was indeed cruel to those of us affected. I hope that CCP learns a few things about how to handle such events better in the future. I appreciate that it was a hard situation with the leak (though from what little I know and won't be sharing, it sounds like the dissemination of information in Atlanta was poorly thought out and executed), but this denial only served to invalidate everything we were going through this weekend. |

Two years ago we said two things based on what we had seen and heard:-
1) DUST would be horrible and almost certainly unsuccessful without a PC version.
2) WOD wasn't ever going to happen. The scope of the project was too massive to hit a deadline for a genre that was rapidly dwindling in mainstream popularity.
You told us we were naughty children who didn't know what the adults were up to so we couldn't possibly be right..........
Remember the Tom Hanks film BIG? The reason that Tom's character is such a huge success in the toy world is that he has the rare ability to bring a customers perspective to the out of touch executives of an adult company.
I often feel that CCP continues to fail to appreciate that customers know what they want to buy and know what they are prepared to pay for. CCP seem welded to the idea that they can create something against the advice of their customers and then sell it to those very same customers who said they didn't want it.
I played the beta of DUST - it was awful, that's the last time I have ever thought about it. I heard about WOD and was frankly disgusted that my sub money was being used to develop that game and not the game I paid for and also that Eve was being used as a test bed for something so speculative.
It's time to show the love to Eve and the Eve player base. This is the game that's done all the work, generated all the income, won the awards, built the offices, created the best game community on the planet. Why do you continue to treat such a respected and venerated title as if it is some kind of embarrassing older relative with a bladder problem?
The man said it himself, Eve is the Golden Goose, it's Eve that pays the wages. Sometimes the answers you are looking for are right at your own front door.
